First Tornado warning of the year...
    Sheesh, gotta love southern Alabama...

We've had the coldest weather on record, in between it gets warm enough for T-shirts. Up and down like CRAZY!!

Top it off, this morning the emergency radio, phone, sirens, all goes off at once !! Tornado warning. Not a watch, no prior talk of "possibilities" in the forecast.

Nope, just a "take cover now" out of nowhere. Sheesh. Of course the cat runs off under the Bed, the dogs run left and right and its utter pandemonium. I hate tornadoes...

We were lucky again, though, although there are still storms around..

But not to many years ago we had one that destroyed the entire high school to the ground and nine kids got killed.

The weather here is just stupid ...

Yeah it's been cold down here I remember one day it didn't get above 20 degrees (that's really cold for alabama). I'm in birmingham and don't remember any tornado warnings but jeez it seems really early for it. This morning it was warm enough to wear a t-shirt but it's supposed to drop 20 degrees in the evening. Very strange up and down weather this year. I couldnt get myself prepared for the cold this year because it doesn't stay cold lmao.

I'm about 4 hours below you and it was UGLY. Its still grumbling and raining.
Still, it came without any kind of "warning". Normally you will get a "hey watch out..." a day before, then a "Tornado watch".

We got a "take cover now". sheesh...

    Glad it missed you!!!

New England weather has been very odd this year too. Coldest stretch in over 100 years, yet barely any snow. I just got in from shoveling, I think only the 5th storm I've had to shovel all winter. I've actually seen bare grass more than snow this winter. But man, it's been cold. LOTS of single digit weather and below zero weather. But then it gets into the 40s plus for a few days, melts any snow on the ground and then bang, back to 4 degrees over night. Weird.

Well dang up here we just had some rain and a really heavy fog. I'm really hoping we don't have a bad year with tornadoes. They scare me pretty bad lol.

    Yes, I hate them, too.

Remember April 27 2011 ? We had 394 confirmed Tornadoes throughout the south east (Alabama got the worst)..15 of them severe (F4 and F5) IN ONE DAY!

Unbeknownst to me, my Mother and Brother were flying in THAT DAY (from Germany) to surprise me on my birthday !!

If I had known they were on the way, flying through that mess, I would have been frantic with worry. They barely made it, with flights cancelled left and right and even the car rental about to close shop that evening..They had quite the exciting trip ;)

I was gonna mention it. I was burried in a closet with my laptop playing the weather station because we don't have a basement. Really strong audible wind where I was. Luckily I had no house damage, but many people did. Over 300 fatalities through the south.

Have you ever been to Vulcan park? You're a good distance so probably not but earlier that day I had visited the Vulcan statue which has a high balcany, and I legitimately thought I was going to fly off. I'm amazed they let me up.

Holy crap flying and driving I'm amazed they're ok. I'm brave but not that brave. The second a tornado hits the ground I'm taking my reptiles and heading for cover.

did they bring u a snake w/ them on the plane? ;)

but on the real, tornadoes are super scary. they showup w/o warning and they lay waste to anything and everything that's in their path. we get earthquakes and have volcanoes in my neck of the woods but i still do not want a direct hit from a tornado. stay safe!

You could send some of that weather here. Weather in Arizona is so boring. 80s for a high and 50s for a low. Very little wind, storms, and rain until July. We honestly have two seasons; fall and summer lol.:sunny:

I wish they'd bring a snake !! Over there they have all the morphs I want, LOL !!!

Yeah, I hate tornadoes. We've been so lucky, but we get them right by our town every year. I always feel like its just a matter of time...and of course no one has basements around here !! Really should have a company come and install one of those underground shelters...

No, you really do not want this weather..

It wipes out entire towns, just flat out. Rips kids from parents arms. Lifts cars up into the air. It really is THAT bad...

I would love boring weather!!! :)

I'd like warm weather year round so I could keep reptiles outside. And yeah the weather here sucks. Alabama doesn't have as many tornadoes as some states but has the most fatalities because of trailer parks, and it doesn't prepare itself well enough.

Up here in the mountains of Colorado we don't ever have tornados or earthquakes. But we do have massive fast moving forest fires. We had one last year when the wind was gusting over 80 MPH. The fire was twice as high as the highest trees and would blow through the forest faster than a person could run. It was so hot and fast it even melted cars right to the ground to where you couldn't even tell there was a car there. I saw it on my way home on my left over the mountaintop as I was driving, luckily my house was on the right side of the road. It lit up the sky for about 40 miles all along the highway, I saw the fire dept. guys just standing around at the station, it was so big and hot and moving so fast there was nothing they could do. And the wind was blowing so hard I could hardly keep my car on the road. There was a story about a guy who bought a fire truck and was going to try to fight off the fire by his house by himself but when he saw the fire coming so big and fast he ditched the fire truck and sped away in his car. Scary stuff.

Wild Fires can be absolutely devastating and scary as all that. It almost feels as if the fire has a life of itself. Last year was horrible. I can't imagine being a livestock owner and having to leave all my animals behind, because there just isn't time...

I saw footage where a big Thoroughbred farm released all the horses, as they ran around in a panic, one mare ran back into her stall. Her trainer went after her and both were burned badly by a ball of fire just jumping over the wall. Both made it, but they are quite scarred up.

Goodness, I don't even want to think about all the tornadoes coming this year. We're one of those towns from 2011 that had an F5 mow half the buildings over. My roommate and I were speculating how bad it would be come spring, considering how extreme our summer last year and winter thus far have been. When this winter weather stalls around and meets the incoming summer weather.... Ugh. I don't even have a basement right now - an unfortunate aspect of apartment living.

If you want reasons to not ever have this weather, just look up "Joplin Tornado 2011". Stuff of nightmares..... Why do I still live in tornado alley again? Lol.

We don't have a basement either, no one around here does. Unless they live on a hill and have one of those "walk in basements".

We just go to the office, which is a room in the middle of the house with no windows. Of course as soon as I'm trying to round up the animals, they all run in different directions!

This tornado warning was just so weird. Normally we have a inkling that something "may" develop. That the weather points to a possibility. Then, hours before, we have a "tornado watch".

This time? NOTHING. Straight to "Tornado warning" (meaning rotation nearby or a tornado on the ground), sirens and messages on the phone and emergency radio to "take cover now".

I was like...WHAAAAAAAAT??? At first I thought it may be a test, but then again, it was stormy outside.

This is really early into the year, I hope this is not a sign or whats to come, sigh..

That's pretty much how it was with Joplin, except they get so many false-alarm tornado sirens. My roommate had never heard one until we moved to the city; she lived out in the country and you can't hear the sirens from there. People didn't take the first siren seriously, and it didn't look bad yet -- and then they sounded a second siren, and that only happened a few minutes before the F5 rolled right through and smashed through a hospital.

We haven't even had a tornado since we've moved, but they test the sirens once a month Wednesday morning at 10AM, and that kind of freaked roomy out haha!

I get'cha on the development thing -- sometimes the sky just looks "mean", and there's that evil green tint to everything. Maybe it's a time-of-year thing that that didn't happen? We've been having huge weather shifts and it's been wreaking havoc on my sinuses lol. One day it's 55, next two days it's 25 and snowing again. What the mcHeck. Chill out, weather. I don't want a storm right now. Please and thank you.

I have the same problem with the weather messing up my sinuses. Plus I get wicked migraines and balance problems (vertigo). Blood pressure goes crazy..

Our weather isn't good for that, the extreme up and downs, whew.

I know exactly what you say, normally one can even "tell" if something bad is brewing. You can almost feel it. The sky does look greenish. The pressure feels "off".

    We had NONE of that.

That's the most creepy of it all, I think...
