Should the Monday after Super Sunday be a Holiday?
ok so the big game was this weekend. yep, it was Super Sunday yesterday! did u watch the big game? there was so much build-up. the underdogs vs. the big dogs! it was a game for the ages!
what game some of u may ask?
i'm talking about the Puppy Bowl of course!
https://ball-pythons.net/forums/cach...om/s4NwUi0.gif
https://ball-pythons.net/forums/cach...CHDOWNNN.0.gif
and don't forget the kitty kats half-time show!
https://ball-pythons.net/forums/cach...om/zaKBNyz.gif
https://ball-pythons.net/forums/cach...ttensync.0.gif
if u missed the big game, u can read a re-cap here (complete w/ pix and gifs): https://www.sbnation.com/2018/2/4/16...s-cute-canines
so Super Sunday is a YUGE American tradition of over eating, over drinking and over partying. oh and of course, there's a sports competition as well. anyway i bring this up b/c the day after the Super Bowl... errr i mean Puppy Bowl, is one of the least productive work day of the year.
-- 10.5 million call in sick
-- 7.5 million show up late
-- 16.5 million will simply skip
i myself i'm working a half day today. i slept in an extra 2hours and had a big hot breakfast and came into the office just in time for lunch! i guess i'm 1 of the 7.5 milli who was tardy. oops!
so what do u think? should we just have (Post) Super Bowl Monday as a national holiday and everyone can take the day off to celebrate and/or cry and recover?

Re: Should the Monday after Super Sunday be a Holiday?
If we're talking about a paid holiday, yes. I don't pay attention to sports but alot of people don't celebrate Christmas and still get paid to take the day off.

Definitely yes!.. I don't drink alcoholic beverages and I don't watch sporting events, but I can act like I do if that's what it takes. I spent the day doing stuff that really matters. Playing Xbox and watching Hulu [emoji41]
-
No! Come on...it's a game! Lol
-
I sort of had an unofficial holiday today. School was cancelled due to inclement weather. I'm definitely not complaining lol.
-
Paid holidays are negotiated by your job, as far as needing recovery time, grow a pair and call in. No holiday status needed. :)
-
-
Nope, shouldn't be a holiday. Not that I'd get it off in restaurantville anyway. It's harder with other sports anyway. Staying up to watch the Bruins or Sox (Or Celtics if you're into that crap) in the playoffs can be tough. It's multiple games a week, week nights, etc...
And being in Boston, we make the playoffs pretty much every year in all 4 major sports...tough being in Title Town. (YES, I know the Pats lost, hahahaha)
-
Of course it should. And any other days they want to give us off, paid, I'll agree with those too.
-
for the sake of having an actual productive work force, i say yes. the same reason new years day became a holiday; i'm sure productivity is abysmal after the super bowl. so what's the point?
at a federal level? nah. but i think it should become a common cultural custom for business to close the day after the super bowl, or at least open at a later time.

i already have the following paid holidays (the ones w/ an asterisk are not Federal Holidays) w/ Friday off if the holiday is on Saturday and Monday off if it falls on a Sunday:
New Year's Day
MLK Day
Presidents Day
Cesar Chavez Day*
Memorial Day
Independence Day
Labor Day
Columbus Day
Veterans Day
Yom Kippur*
Thanksgiving Day
Day after Thanksgiving day*
Christmas Eve*
Christmas Day
Personal Holiday*
oh don't worry. i do my fair share of calling in on Fridays or Mondays already. ;) i'm just thinking that the Monday after Super Sunday should be a nationwide thing that we should not have to worry about and enjoy. :gj: but maybe i'll negotiate that and New Years Eve next. :)
Edit: what if i sweeten the deal? what if everyone gets the the day off the Monday after Super Sunday AND if your team won the Superbowl, u get another day off to attend the victory parade the same week??!!

I used to be in 6 leagues. Now I only play in one with my father and brother just for giggles and bragging rights.
I used to play before it was all over the world wide interweb. We used to have to buy the newspapers and check box scores. We had to do our own scores and our opponent's that week. Then it would be submitted to the commissioner. Drafting and free agency were a nightmare.

Yup, old school indeed!! That was before the stupid Thurs night game too. Man I hate Thurs night games.
I'd be down for a BP.net league!!! We'd have to do it for fun and bragging rights though.

bragging rights and a snake. i hope to have some bb BP's this year and i'll donate a nice lil one to the winner!

I'm down for this, with the caveat that the Monday after the Daytona 500 gets to be a holiday as well :D (nope, no ulterior motives to see here, move along... :bolt:).

That would be awesome!

I guess I have no sympathy for people who have to drag themselves to work after a day of fun and partying-- seeing as I'm a nurse and am required to work a good portion of actual legit holidays anyway.

Re: Should the Monday after Super Sunday be a Holiday?
I vote no because days like these are when my office is the most productive. With so many other people off, one can actually focus on getting work done instead of answering the questions of other people. Plus if we did the Monday after the superbowel then we would also have to do all of march madness, opening day, the Stanely cup...etc.
-
If we got the day off after Boston teams won titles, as well as the parade days, we'd have to restructure our labor laws.
Just as a friendly reminder: the Pats and Sox are both CURRENT WORLD CHAMPIONS!!!

It wouldn’t matter to me. My company never shuts down. We run 24/7 365!
