Where are your display cages located?
I’m very interested in where people keep their display cages and how they incorporate them into a “grownup” decorated scheme.
I started with an office and cages tastefully decorated and placed. Then I had to relocate my office furniture to make room for more. Then I added them to my laundry room/new office area. Then I did an area of my basement and moved everyone down there. And I don’t like it. I miss having them around me and hanging out, especially for a spur-of-the-moment handling session. Having them in the basement makes it feel like more of a scheduled event to bring one upstairs and then going up and down to hold different ones... it’s just not the same ease-of-access, if that makes any sense.
My former snake room has become my guest bedroom. I’m 54 and have a standard, adult living room that you’d see in any older person’s home, a basically furnished guest bedroom, a grown up bedroom with a bedroom set... what about a stack in the living room? It just doesn’t seem to fit in as part of the decor...
How do people set things up without making the room/house look like a college student’s first cheap apartment? Could I put a nice looking stack in the guest bedroom? Is that too off-putting? Would covering the stack when a non-snake person stayed over in the room be sufficient to make me a thoughtful host? This is very important to me. Please give me some input. Thanks!
Re: Where are your display cages located?
I wanted to put our 3x2 display cage in our guest bedroom too, since it was too big and cluttered our daughter's room. My wife, however, wouldn't have it. She actually received confirmation from some routine guests that they would not want to sleep in the room with the snake. I can understand how it could be off-putting to some people.
We ultimately agreed it would go in our Den which turned out to be a much better option. It gets far more visibility from everyone in there and it's a lot easier for me in terms of feeding, cleaning and maintenance. This is the only pic I have at the moment, it's in the corner of our den next to the TV/entertainment center & sectional couch. An added bonus is if there's ever an extended winter power outage, I can crank up the nearby fireplace to heat the room.

Re: Where are your display cages located?
I'm probably not the grown up you had in mind when you asked this question since I'm just nineteen but I'd like to answer your question anyway.
First of all I don't think covering the stack would be enough for a non-snake person and I'm not sure if that would go with the aesthetics that you are trying to achieve. Is there a possibility to put the snakes in the hall or is too small? What about the dining room or is that too unpleasant?
Also why don't you work a bit on the stack to make it fit into the living room.
I personally keep my snake in my bedroom. In order to make his (new and not used yet) terrarium fit into the style of my apartment, I painted it and chose a specific theme for the decoration inside even though there's still a lot to do. Maybe it could be a small project for you too. Or you could also get something custom build.

Next to the TV in the living room...though other than the kitchen and bathroom, my apartment is really one large room
Re: Where are your display cages located?
You've seen my collection.
It's good and bad - good in that it's in my office and I can see/interact with them easily and bad in that it really limits the space thus limiting the number of snakes I can acquire (which in my girlfriends eyes is a good thing - not that she doesn't like them, just money can be spent elsewhere).
I would entertain moving them to a dedicated snake room in the basement but not in my current house - would have to be a new build or move.
Maybe move your office down there so you can see/interact more? I haven't seen your current set-up since my visit but if you did what you were describing, I'm sure it looks pretty sweet with all of the enclosures you amassed.
(PS - haven't heard back from the craigslist guy. I might be coming to your area soon to pick up a T8 from ccplotner HOPEFULLY - maybe we can schedule a visit and I'll bring Kelley with too. I'm also picking up that T25 in Chicago next month on my trip)
Re: Where are your display cages located?
I currently have mine between my living room and dining room. I'll be expanding my collection soon and start breeding as well, so I'm going to turn my den into my snake room. It's 20'x40' so I'll have plenty of room for all my plans.
Re: Where are your display cages located?
I have a 24'x12' central room upstairs (Common area with all the Bedrooms/Xtra Bath Off of it) where mine are. My oldest daughter tells me she doesnt have anyone over because Im "the ole zoo keepa"... With that said wish I had a enclosed room but because the Office isnt big enough.
Re: Where are your display cages located?
I'm pretty excited. I have 20+ years of construction experience and own more than enough tools to get it all done. I'm just having trouble deciding exactly what I want to do. At the moment I'm thinking about building a wall or 2 so I can section off the room and have a incubation room and a room for feeders plus a small section for quarantine. I also have a fireplace in case of a power outage but living in Florida, I usually only have that issue during hurricane season and the humidity and temps during that time of year is basically perfect for snake life

This is a shot from our security camera in the room all the reptiles in one room. Two cages off in the back right corner are the bearded dragons. The sterilite container on the mini freezer is the roaches and the one on the floor is out Russian tortoise. The rest of the enclosures are the 4 BPs and my RTB

Space is limited in the apartment so it's in the living room. Can't wait for our house in the fall, will probably be in the finished basement.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...ad811b384c.jpg
