How did your experince with your first snake go?

Are you asking how we acquired our first snake or when we first got them home?

When it was brought home

Bringing boop home she wanted out of her tub. Would not let it go. My son opened the container and she was all over him lol. She kept Boopi g her face so I named her boop. Later booplesnoop. She acclimated quickly to her enclosure since I had it set up before bringing her home. She ate the first week right away. I love this damn snake lol. She chose us not the other way around.

When I brought my first boy Meeko home he was so tiny but so so sweet. He was always super chill and pretty much immediately acclimated to his tank. He was a display snake at the reptile store I got him from so he was used to the glass enclosure and being handled and such lol. We had taken him on the day they typically feed them so we decided to try and feed him on his second day home, he ate it happily and hasn’t missed a meal sense (Other then when he’s in shed sense I don’t even try lol)

He’s just as sweet and chill as the day I got him and he has shown many of my friends and family how cool snakes are. Love him to bits

My first snake I brought home was a Plains Garter Snake I caught when I was around 8 years old. After getting bit about 10 times, musked on, then peed on the experience went great until I showed my mom my new pet. The experience then went south again with myself and now my newly acquired snake both knowing we may both die. :) My dad intervened, built me a wooden cage, and reached a negotiated agreement with my mom. The experience after that was great visiting and holding my snake in the garage each day.

My first snake was a 3 month old corn snake from SMR. Since I bought her on line, I had no real concept of how tiny she would be. I was amazed when the deli cup arrived! Since I’d stayed home to get her, I was in my fluffy robe. After zipping around in my hands, she went straight for my sleeve and ended up coming out at chest level. Such a brave and beautiful baby!!! I was totally in love.:P

My first bp (first snake ever) just came about 6 months ago. He was around 8 months old already, and I ordered him online from the breeder. I was so excited and so nervous when he arrived, because the first and last time I had ever held a snake was years and years ago. I literally watched videos for days beforehand on how to hold a snake, but I was still really nervous about it. My boyfriend and I let him sit in his cup for a bit with the lid off, hoping he would relax and start moving around, but we eventually had to just pick him up out of the cup. We held him for a little bit because we knew it would be a couple weeks before we got to do it again, and boy was it the coolest thing ever! He was very active the first couple weeks, just snaking around his tank 'sploring at night, but he ate just a few days after coming home and has settled in very well since then.

My first snake ever was quite a number of years ago. It was a baby Burmese Python and I had absolutely no clue what I had gotten myself into. I was heading to college and snuck her and her 10 gallon aquarium into the dorm room. Needless to say she quickly outgrew that enclosure. It took about 10 months before someone in the dorm ratted me out that I had it and I was informed by the staff that either the snake or me had to go. I went and got an apartment off campus. This Burmese never attempted to strike at me or anyone else and was a perfect lady. I had numerous other reptiles over the years both venomous and not, from tiny to her. When I left college and could not take her with me to my new place to live, I gave her to a friend who was also a herper. At that time she was 16.5 feet and around 90-100 lbs. I will never forget that snake.

My first snake was a juvenile/almost yearling Rosy Boa from a small pets type pet store. Got her Mother's Day weekend, 1997, I named her Kira, as I was a DS9 fan, and she bit me the very first night I had her. Other than going through like a five-year nippy phase as a youngster, she's been a really easy keeper :8: Unless something goes very wrong, I expect her to turn 22 sometime this fall :)

I got my first snake last July, and she immediately took to climbing her plant and PVC pipes. She was so tiny :'). She was 2 months old when she arrived.

She spent the next five days wind-shield wiping for food, because the breeder fed her a week before she arrived and she was HUNGRY. She was on live with the breeder, but I offered a frozen/thawed mouse and she snatched it up with some zombie dancing as enticement. After that, she immediately went into shed so I couldn't bother her even if I wanted to, lol. I then found out that my hygrometer was bad, since it reported a higher humidity than was actually present, resulting in a bad shed.

So not exactly a typical experience -- most have trouble switching to f/t while I had zero problems. Also, multiple hygrometers are never a bad thing. And I did switch her over to rats two feedings later; she took those with more enthusiasm than the mice, to be honest.

Just like every species, Rosy Boas have their unique ways. 22 years is wonderful! My Rosys are only 1-2 years old, and still nippy. Caramel especially does that slo-mo bite thing so typical of them. Thanks for sharing your memory.

My first snake was a normal bci boa that was named Athena. A friend was moving and needed his snakes watched so we watched Athena, another smaller boa Epinoya, and a little hog island boa lucifer. My wife at the time was in love with Athena and we bought her off him. She was 4 years old and 5 foot 10 inches long. She became a daddy's girl and loved curling under me and a blanket watching TV for hours.

Getting Wanda (Normal Ball Python) home was extremely stressful for me! First of all, bear in mind that at the point we bought her, I knew NOTHING about snakes (She was to be my boyfriend's). The most was I got a leaflet from Pets at Home (Similar to Petco I guess? but they only have a handful of stores that actually sell reptiles nowadays). Secondly, we were going to get a cornsnake and ended up with a beep... I did say I knew absolutely nothing! Thirdly, we had her viv set up for a cornsnake, so I was stressing as Wanda didn't seem to be settling down. It was all a bit of a mess really! I'm glad I joined this forum becuase it's helped me a lot. I do wish I could've had a better experience (Which would have been helped by me having more experience, it's my own fault!) but I wouldn't change my little girl for the world :)

Wow alot of people get snakes but rare for them to keep them for years thats awsome

My first snake was a normal ball python. It went fine and he/she did awesome for over 10 years in a 55 gallon tank with a screen top and heat lamps haha. That was about 30 years ago but I did have a Nile Monitor, Savannah Monitor and Iguana along with Tokay and house geckos, Pacman frogs and a tiger salamander.

I brought Pascal home in 2016 from the Tinley Park reptile show. He was so tiny and adorable! I was so nervous to get my first snake I wanted to make sure everything was right so I had his cage set up for a month before I got him. I was a little timid of him at first because I had never held a snake before him (lol). But everything went great. No escaping or anything and his tub setup was perfect. His first shed with me was about three months after I got him and it also went great. He ate every week too [emoji4] Now he is like 10x the size he was and less adorable but still a good boy [emoji4]

My first (and only) ball python was a Bumblebee 100% het Clown. He was shipped with a animal shipping service on the 7th of July 2017 which is also the day he arrived (to minimize the stress for the animal you have to give it to them at night and then they drive to the destination the same night). At 8 o'clock in the morning he arrived and my hands were shaking when I opened the box he was in. He was absolutely beautiful, white with a few brown dots and the typical Spider pattern. He was a tight ball when I got him out of the bag he was in. I was afraid of hurting him since he was so small (he weighed exactly 100g) so I just put him into his quarantine box. He explored a bit and then went to sleep. Since I live near a river the humidity goes up the 90% in summer, so I had a lot of troubles with humidity in the beginning. I decided to just put the top of the box just on lightly so that air can circulate better but it just lead to my ball python escaping the first night I got him. I found him in some newspaper I had lying next to the quarantine box. After that I learned to always secure the enclosure.
I spent about two weeks sleeping most of the day and being awake at night to make sure he's ok.
Now he's about to turn 1 year and he weighs 550g. For some reason I thought he was going to turn out to be a brown adult Bumblebee ball python but he suddenly just turned very yellow. I was a bit confused since he didn't have any yellow spots when he was a baby. Now he is very yellow and has only very few brown dots. Bumblebees are not rare but I think he's gorgeous. He has also never struck at anyone but he did warn me once when I startled him. I love him <3
By the way his name is Friedrich. He was named after the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche.

First snake was 30 years ago this summer. A wild caught 4' Ball Python full of Stress, Mites, Ticks Scars and energy. It would skate the glass 90% of the time. It ate no problem but would regurge 1/2 the time. It was docile and outgoing at the same time. Guess that was the Wild in it.

Thats where most constrictors came from back then. They weren't really bred in captivity yet.
