Sterilite dish tub for mouse rack?

Hello! I bought 1.3 mice on Saturday, and for now i have them in one 20q tall tub.
I am hoping to expand once they (hopefully) breed. I was considering making a smaller rack with these tubs pictured. I found them at walmart.

Is this too small for 1 male and 3 females? Is it too small for any pairings?
If so, i can go for a different tub, my aim was a smaller footprint for a rack than the lowes mixing tubs.

There's one main reason I don't use Tupperware for my rats and mice - sometimes they can chew out and run loose around your house! I've seen them get out of mixing tubs (which are really flimsy). If you look at a professional ARS rack the tubs are super heavy duty, real thick plastic. I see my rats trying to get a hold on the ARS tubs, they never do and never get out. Personally I would use glass tanks or a professional rack system. BTW, that size tub should be fine for a trio.

That ridge in the tub that is where they will start chewing to make their way out, if you want to use tubs use tubs that have no ridges and no groves

I am putting tp rolls and a chew block in there to help with chewing. Though i can def see a chew out happening.

I prefer to not do tanks though. Too expensive and heavy for me.

Now, if ARS sells just tubs, i could go for that and build the rack off those.

Is there a foor space to mouse ratio out there? Last thing i want to do is overcrowd, for the mice and the smell haha.

Here is what I use https://www.freedombreeder.com/product/fb10sc (you can order just the tubs) and I run 1.4 which is perfect for one male and yield a great production per tubs. Those tubs are very thick and sturdy.

And I believe ARS sells tubs only too.

Giving them things to chew doesn't help them chewing tubs, unfortunately.

I will say that if you have a tub chewer, eliminate that one and all the ones in the tub as soon as possible. You probably can't tell for certain which exact one chewed and rodents seem to follow the leader when it comes to activities you DON'T want them to do.

So far no one is chewing on the current tub they're in. When i have numbers i will definitely take your advice on culling chewers.

I think i will order some mouse appropriate tubs to avoid break outs. Besides that, if i ever want to expand or replace, it will be available to order whenever- instead of worrying about not finding them at walmart. And it will all match.

The tubs are a little longer than i expected but i think the width being what it is makes up for it.

Remember it's more then culling chewer it's culling the whole tub, chewers will teach others so that means the whole tub as to go.

I saw those tubs and don't think they are good for rats or mice but I like their dimensions and was interested in them for a hatchling setup. Nothing says security like opaque tubs..

Yeah the tubs have 2 different places where theres a groove. So i can see why it isn't good for mice.
