I think I just found a great rat supplier.
I was about to order from perfect prey as my rat supply is dwindling. I reached out to a phone number I saved from Craigslist months ago...
Rat breeder, lives very close to me! Yay!
I asked for 10 pups, 20 weaned, 30 small, and 20 mediums.
All frozen for $75. That’s less than $1 a rat, and the majority of them are adults.
I hope they are good quality, it sounds good, he uses gassing method. I hope this works out long term!

Re: I think I just found a great rat supplier.
I get most of my equipment, food and sometimes pets from a place called "pet bazaar". It's about a ten minute drive from where I live and they have alot of different breeds of snakes so buying mice/rats turns into an hour long affair. It's like a toy store for snake lovers

i live in the middle of nowhere, the closest pet store is 35 minutes away and its a petco or petsmart. then 45-an hour away is a place called “aquatic critter” that has a bunch of reptiles and fish! never really looked at rodents there though but it’s unethical to keep driving there.

Yeah, when the guy told me $75, I was psyched! Pets art sells a medium frozen rat for $10! Local reptile store: $6, buying direct from a local breeder is the way to go.
I’m getting then for a $1. [emoji41]

One thing you have to watch out for with local breeders is how long the rodent was frozen. When I started breeding rats I would occasionally freeze a rat here and there, some of them were several months old when I first started selling my excess, you need to let your customers know that. You may want to ask how long they have been in the freezer, especially if they are really cheap. Many won't even respond to that question LOL. When you order online from a bulk supplier most of the times I found that their rodents were euthanized and frozen when the order was placed and have a longer life in the freezer compared to local guys.

I see. However, in this case, the guy has a small supply for himself, and freezes them all for himself. He doesn't feed live. SO I am literally getting some of his supply, and he will just breed more. If I become a regular, he will have a reason to raise up his more breeders.
The savings are incredible, even better than all the hassle of breeding them myself for sure!

I have lived in Sanford my entire life so pet bazaar has been the only place I could go for years. I live right next to what used to be "flea world" but I would never buy anything from them because they had a very bad local reputation

I hit the jackpot. Local snake keeper that breeds her own, and has too many...
All these for $80!!! Can’t beat that anywhere.
