First BP!! Meet Kova!!
Hi everyone! I am new to the BP community and just bought my first ball New Years Day :) Her name is Kova and she is a healthy little Butter Pastel Lesser, about 6 months old :) She measures 27 3/4in and weighed in at 299g (given she ate a weaned rat 2 days ago and hasn't pooped) once she's empty I'll update the post :) for now, enjoy some pictures of my sweet girl!!

very nice and congrats! welcome to the forum! we're here to help and share pix. :gj:
also Kova is either a Butter Pastel or Lesser Pastel. she cannot be both a Butter and Lesser Pastel, otherwise she would be a completely white snake w/ blue eyes. :)

thanks for the clarifcation(: I bought her as a Pastel Lesser, but the breeder mentioned butter while we were talking at the house which confused me lol, I'm still waiting for 100% confirmation what her parents were. But if I understand correctly she carries the butter and BEL gene. the whole genetics thing is a lot to understand, I'm trying it is surely fascinating lol, but it's good to know if I breed her to the right boy I can get a BEL :D

Welcome! What a gorgeous girl!

Beautiful choice for a first BP!

Oh my gosh that is such a cute little baby!!! She looks exactly like what I want to get ;-;
I can't wait to see her progress!

Butter and lesser are thought to be the same morph that just originated from different sources hence the name difference. Most people prefer to keep the name of the parent snake. If the parent was a lesser butter bel, then it will be impossible to ever know which line you have and maybe why there was confusion with the name in the first place. Regardless if it’s butter or lesser, it still has the same breeding potential. If you breed her to a lesser or a butter you will get bels. You can also get bels breeding her to mojave or a bel of any combo of the three.

What a beautiful babe😊 congratulations and best wish can not wait to see her fabulous face more around here😉

I believe her parents were a Pastel and Lesser, but it's definitely good to know she has the BEL gene and can produce with the right male :)

Re: First BP!! Meet Kova!!
Blue Eye Leucistic is popular from the following
Lesser (Butter is the exact same thing)
Mojave
Russo
Bamboo
Honey
Phantom
Mocha
Mystic

Re: First BP!! Meet Kova!!
i would suggest getting a male Mojave or Phantom/Lesser if u wanna make BEL's with her. u won't have the buggy eyes from Super Lesser's/Super Butter's, plus it adds variety since u will have another snake and make ones that look different from a Butter/Lesser. :gj:

Re: First BP!! Meet Kova!!
Hi! Congrats. I don't think anyone had mentioned it or I read over the post, but good job with the newspaper as "plate" :) I do it with all my young snakes!

Re: First BP!! Meet Kova!!
lesser vs butter. it's believed to be the same gene that comes from two different wild caught specimen. Lessers all come from "Platty Daddy" from the Ralph Davis line and I can't remember the specimen that butters descend from.

I actually just heard back from my breeder, mom was a Butter Pastel, dad a Lesser which is where I got confused and combined them all haha :)

haha thank you!! I do want to switch her to a coconut husk for humidity/mold precautions, but the kit I bought had a whole bag of Zoo Med aspen and I didn't want to waste it, so I compromised :)

Aspen is really good. Easy to clean. When they're older they're less prone to swallowing any substrate. It doesn't matter then as well. Snakes in the wild just spit it out anyway. It's what a snake does!

Yeah, that makes sense and is why the breeder wasn’t clear if yours is a butter or a lesser because there is no way to tell. It’s definitely not both or she’d be an all white snake. So this just means you’ll never know which line of butter/lesser she came from. It changes nothing in her breeding potential, but just makes it a little confusing what to call her and then her offspring. My opinion would just be honest and tell people that she is butter or lesser especially when selling offspring so at least you don’t mislead anyone that is looking to get a snake from one or the other specific lines.
Regardless of all that, she’s gorgeous! Congrats ;)

No, she is definitely pastel. It’s the butter or lesser you’ll never know because they are the same but she is definitely one. So she is either pastel butter or pastel lesser. The reason you'll never know which is because she could of got either one depending on which parent she inherited it from. The breeder just chose to go with pastel lesser to keep from confusing you and that’s fine if you want to just stick with that. If you breed her you should probably let potential buyers know she could be butter or lesser though.
