    Kalabash goodness!
Well, I ordered a pair Kalabash morph ball pythons for Christmas, but the breeder and I decided to put off shipping even longer, because of the current cold weather patterns. Neither of us is in a rush, because the health of the snakes is most important. I may not be getting the snakes until sometime in January.
A Kalabash heavily-reduced/black-banded male, and a Kalabash Enchi Het Pied female, with a very unique pattern. They are both subadults, so I am getting established snakes that have been hand-raised by the breeder himself since birth, the male is already breeding age, and the female will be ready for 2018! Tom Parker of Tropical Tom's Reptiles.

I love reduced patterns of the "normal" black and gold coloring, (normal black and gold royal python color will always be my favorite) and after browsing lines of genetic banded pythons, I deduced that the Kalabash gene is the best-looking reduced morph breeding line. It was tough choice, as blades and other genetic banded lines came in a close second.

Here is the male Kalabash, 2014 birth, over 500 grams:

The female is Kalabash Enchi Het Pied, and is a really unique one, to be pictured here soon enough...

You're so lucky! I've been looking at his snakes for a while. The KRG is so pretty! Better than any other flashy morph IMO:gj: Make sure you take a ton of pictures!

Thanks babe! I will! I once read a piece of advice, buy the morphs YOU like and breed the morphs YOU like, so even if the Kalabash isn’t some rare flashy colors, it’s still a beautiful morph to ME. I just love the “plain old” normal black and gold, with LARGE black bands. Enchi are too light and most all reduced patterns have thin black bands (spider, pinstripe, blade, woma) , but the Kalabash has BIG BLACK BANDS, with golden bands interlayed and it’s just mesmerizing.
I’m going to be one of the only Kalabash/Reduced type pattern breeders in the world, so it will be my niche that will always have at least some demand, and very little supply.

I also like flashy colored pastel/enchi style piebalds, but there are a pile of breeders doing that already due to the huge demand.
It turns out, the VERY FIRST WILD CAUGHT KALABASH, was het for pied! And they create a reduced pattern, high white piebald when combined. I’m really curious what a killer pied bred to a Kalabash enchi het pied will pop out! Fun!

    You are completely right !!

If you breed, breed what you LIKE !!! Own what you LIKE !!

So much more fun that way. Not to look at it as only a business.

That's why I changed to all Desert Ghost, they were my dream snakes for a while and I decided to go for it. What I like are snakes that keep their color through adult hood. To many morphs are flashy as hatchlings and then get muddy.

I do love high contrast and bright colors and clean ness. But I also love normals, with black and gold.

Its a passion for us, and its great that there is such a variety. Something for everyone :)

I also have a gravid female Black Pastel Lesser that was bred to the KRG Pastel pied boy, Yellowbelly, and Orange Dream have also been locking with KRG this season. I have believed in this gene for the last four years and am only breeding Kalabash this season. No risk no rewards. I think my choice of morphs to put it to this year should answer a lot of questions for those of us working the project. KRG has heavy black/melanin that helps maintain contrast into adulthood. As babies they have very peachy /orange sides that I hope the OD and Yellowbelly will help bring out. KRG also helps eliminate the browning we see on Pastels as they age.

Did you get the snakes in yet? I noticed the one you have pictured isn't listed as on hold like some of the others.

Nope, still too cold to safely ship. I decided to buy 2 females, so that male Kalabash is still for sale! Good deal too!:gj:
