I'm so sorry, but this happened.
I took Geno to the vet, and he is perfectly healthy! Same with May, they are both doing great. Their whole set-up and everything is managed and I have them under control!I'm sure there sure there are 1,000,000 things you can point out that I did wrong or reasons I am an unresponsible snake owner, and I want to apologize in advance. I definitely regret rushing into it. Thanks :sigh2::worry:
About 10 hours ago, I had no interest what-so-ever in purchasing any type if boa. At the reptile show, the plan was to pick up a hognose, if any reptile. Well, they didn't have hognoses so I was just going to pick up some food for my ball pythons. One thing led to another and soon I was holding a baby female Central American boa. I kind of fell in love instantly, and my hognose set up at home just needed a couple tweaks to house her. I paid for her, got her some hoppers, and everything I needed for her tank. She is a very beautiful normal. 61g. But, I just have her a UTH and the temperatures are 76°F on the cool side, 81°F on the warm side, and 125°F right above the UTH. HOT! I know, but I'm not too worried because 1: I have a thick layer of aspen (Due to the possibility of a hognose lol), and 2: I bought the UTH thermometer previously, and It's actually supposed to be here tomorrow. Should I unplug the UTH until it gets here? Honestly, it wouldn't be until around 4:30 pm because I wouldn't be home. What do you think? I also need name suggestions! Pictures are coming.
(Oh and I forgot, I was going to put some kind of cover, like the fish tank backgrounds, around the back and sides so she doesn't feel so exposed in her glass tank :))

Thank you! I will most likely turn it off for tonight :) I just don't want her to get too cold during the day tomorrow :worry:

    Unplug it.

    Warm Side: 84-86F
    Cold Side: 75-78F
    Hot Spot: 88-90F
    Ambient: 80F
Humidity: 60-80% (I like to keep humidity around 70-75% and 65% at the lowest.)

Feed him one hopper mouse every10 days or every 2 weeks depending on how conservative you want to be.

Thank you! That's very helpful, I am needing a better hygrometer:upset: She ate 3 days ago, so I'll feed her next Wednesday? Thank you very much, I'm unplugging it now :)

I actually just bought those a few weeks ago and I like them well enough. They all had the same humidty reading right out of the box which was nice and a first when buying multiples at once.

Should be right for the feeding as long as you have her all setup correctly in the next day or two to settle in.

Didn’t think it went through the first time so double posted oops.

Shes a pretty girl! You are going to want a second soon. Boas are definitely a favorite for me.

I was going to post this earlier, but I'm getting worried. When I left my house this morning, her warm side was only at 73°F! I left about 6 hours ago, but I haven't had a break to post this. I could try to run home and plug it in again if I really had to. Do I keep it unplugged or plug it back in?

Can you pick up a dimmer later? it isn't as "smart" as a thermostat but they can be used to regulate UTHs in a pinch. It'll take a bit of adjusting but it's better than nothing. Something like this should work.

Thank you! Ill make sure to. If I can Ill try to run and get one, but it'd probably once I get out of here. 2 hours or so. Would that be too long to wait or should she be fine until then?

I don't know much about boas, but I imagine that it would be fine until you can get a dimmer later today. Also if you want to make your boa feel more secure I would black out the sides of the tank. This can be done by taping some black paper to the sides of the tank ( make sure there is no tape inside the tank ) . I used some poster board, but construction paper will work.

Dimmers work well for a situation like this. You should be able to find one at walmart, home depot, or maybe even a pharmacy.

Boas are great. Usually very hardy and social. Just go easy on the feeding schedule. It will be hard, because boas tend to "beg" for food, but stick to a schedule and she won't grow too quicly or become obese.

Who did you purchase her from? If you bought her from a re-seller or big dealer (like LLL) she could be CA, but might be a normal BCI, so just keep the size potential in mind. You should know in a year or two though, the CAs tend to stay a lot smaller, even with a good feeding schedule and properly sized food. My CA is a LOT slimmer and smaller than my common hypo BCI.

Thank you, I'm on my way now! Honestly, even before I got my ball python I had a hugr thing for boas. But it was a no since I'm still living with my mom and she HATE (ed) boas with a passion. But she also liked this girl :) The breeder claimed she was a BCC, and I do believe him. Because he really seems to care about his animals. Hes a small local business and was able to confidently provide all the info we needed :)

I don't see anything about that boa that looks BCC, looks like a Bi (BCi), probably with a heavy central american locality.
Good luck with your new baby! boas are awesome

Really? (BCC is central American, right? I'm not good with these abbreviations lol) and thank you! And hows this for a name: Pax? The roman goddess of peace?

BC (was BCc) and BI (was BCi) are different species under the same genus. Central American would be a locality of Bi. I hope that helps! I know it can be confusing.

I like the name Pax, plus if you get any more you can stick to the 'roman god/goddess' theme for naming the new ones.

Oh and I had an idea. Maybelle (my bp) like never really is on her hot side. Shes always under a little log in the middle of the cage. And the thermostat got delayed to tomorrow. Do you think I could unplug mays and give it to the boa for the day? ( May also has a heat lamp to keep her warm)

Re: I'm so sorry, but this happened.
Alright, I've got it narrowed down to 2 names.

Silin (Sil-lin, Which I got from Sillín, which means saddle in Spanish. But it's pronounced like seyean or something. I do just like the name Sillin. It's unique!)
Rojo (Red in Spanish, due to her red tail and patterning. Her nickname would be Roe :P)

I took Pax out. I've been thinking about it and I just don't think it fits her now lol. Also, these names are Mexican, hence the name, Central American Boa :) Idk why, but names have always been like the hardest thing in buying a pet! It's a tough choice.

If she is Central American, then she is a BCI / BI "CA" Is usually how it is abbreviated (i,e. a CA BCI or CA BI).

If you got her from a smaller local breeder, then she probably is a real CA. Sometimes the larger dealers mis-label their animals and they often vend shows, which is why I asked.

I would NOT take the thermostat from the BP. Get a dimmer or leave her heat pad off until you have the t-stat. If it is going to be a couple days, see if you can temporarily move the cage somewhere that stays a little warmer than the current spot.
