    Possibly Getting a Corn Snake
So my mother and I were looking on Morphmarket and she loves the Corn Snakes. She likes them so much we might actually get one soon! We sent an inquiery about a 2017 Anery hatchling that is 100% het for Motley and Albino(Amelanistic) and Pos het for Diffused and Hypo! I had some stuff around my house and so far I have a
    -16q tub
    -Paper Towels as substrate
-1-5 gallon Zoomed heat mat( Covers 1/3 of the tub)
    -Jumpstart Thermostat
    -Acurite digital thermometer

I still on or two Probed thermometers :)

Please tell me if I am setting up wrong or if I need other supplies!

Keep in mind you'll be paying up for double het (and the possible het as well). If you have no plans to breed it's basically paying extra money for nothing.

    Gotcha! Then go for it!!

Corns are fun. I personally have moved on from corns, they're just not a species I want to keep any more.

They are much more flighty than BPs and constantly on the move. Juveniles are quick and I'm just not into the constant hand-over-hand movement that comes with handling them, especially juveniles. That being said, I'm not aiming to discourage you, they are beautiful animals and most who keep them love them. They're just not for me.
Make sure your enclosure is ESCAPE PROOF, they are masters at escaping and when they're that small they can fit ANYWAHERE. I lost one this way a while back and haven't really forgiven myself. Also make sure to keep a CONSTANT hand on them when handling because they can and will take off on you and are super quick and like I said can fit ANYWHERE.

Also the ambient temps in my house are around 70 degrees. They go up to 72 but usually are 70. Is this a problem?

my bedroom sometimes gets to 72° and i haven't had an issue, but my room only gets that cool in the evening. i think mid-seventies is what they prefer. i'm no expert so maybe someone else can give us both some insight. :)

Sorry to Hijack my own thread but I wanted to ask about tubs. I would like to have Dean(My BP) in a tub but the ambient air temp(as stated above) is only 70 degrees. As far as I am aware my only options would be to raise the house temps?

Nope, not your only option. You can use a UTH (under-tank heater) with a tub, with a thermostat, of course. A lot of people with tub/racks run the whole thing with one thermostat, but you don’t have to.

Im not sure if Im reading your post right, but I do have a heat mat for the heat sorce(on a thermostat of course) I was wondering if my ambient temps needed to be higher. I didnt really explain myself.

you could run a small space heater (most have a built-in thermostat, but they're not the greatest).

Sorry, I did mis-understand your question. My experience is mostly with AP enclosures, where the insulating properties of the material are good enough that the heat radiating through the enclosure floors from UTHs keep the ambient temps in the enclosures warmer than the air temp outside.

Shouldn't be. My house is in the mid-low 70s for ambient temps and my 6 year old corn has never had issues. There have been times that things have dropped a few degrees cooler in the winter, and he spent more time under his hot hide, but he's always been good. He's a big guy now!

I was wondering if a heat lamp would work with a taller tub? Since I need my air temp higher. I've seen people ( Like starscream? Sorry If I got your username wrong!) use CHE and just put screen on the top of the tub?

Thank you! I'll pass on the compliments to the smol noodle. I'm pretty happy with the tub and che. I'd still love a pvc enclosure and a rhp, but I'm Canadian and they're pricey here.

I can't wait to see pictures when you get your corn! They're so small as hatchlings! You're choosing between amel or anery, right? I have a granite corn, so dilute anery. I love him! Anerys are my favorite corns :)

Not the best picture of Howl, but it's hard to get all of him in once picture these days lolhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...aeea0e1451.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...2e6f404061.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...63cc5fd398.jpg

You're good, I just didn't realize until now that I was mentioned lol. Kind of wish that was a feature of the site, but I digress.

Yeah, there are some cheaper options to buying a whole bunch of wire mesh/screen. I, for instance, am using a pizza mesh pan used for grilling pizzas. It's really easy to cut with scissors so you can cut it down to size if you need to. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Olibay-Grilli...J0BMVE8ZNKEZA8

Can't wait to see your tub, and the noodle of course!

OH MY! I love those colors! I am choosing between Anery or Amel although if I see something else I like I might get that instead lol It will be weird having something so small! My mom was being horrible(:sarcasm: )and talking about how I should get another beep instead of a Corn Snake and Im so close to agreeing with her lol. Especially after seeing your tub setup!

Re: Possibly Getting a Corn Snake
Thanks for the compliments! He's a great snake.

I would have a hard time with that choice! While I love Howl, I got him at a time when I lived in a city where pythons of any sort were bylawed. I couldn't handle being snakeless - but I'm definitely more of a ball python person.

Perk with the corns though are definitely less stress with humidity/temps and never any worries about whether or not they'll eat!

Good luck with a tough choice!

So it looks like we are going to hold off on a Corn snake and save up for a VE-6 rack :D Looks like it will be around $356 with tubs and shipping. I know the waiting is gonna kill me but it will be worth it lol

Going to get it with two adult tubs and 12 hatching tubs I think
