What's the weirdest thing you have caught your BP doing?
Last night Dante did the strangest thing I have ever seen him do in all the years I have had him. I have some cork bark along the side of his enclosure for him to crawl in and on. He was roaming around the front of the enclosure doing his typical thing and I thought nothing of it. I came back about 20 minutes later to see him sprawled out across the front with his head face down between the cork and the wall. Now these are loose and not all that large but I got worried he somehow got stuck. I tapped on the glass and asked what he was doing. He raised his head and flicked his tongue at me then shoved his head back down in that cork. A few second later he pulled with his head to get the cork away from the wall and started burrowing under the cork. He had actually been working on it for a while and had just managed to pry it loose enough to get under
Oddest thing I have ever seen a snake do.

Guess its not "that" odd, esp. with gravid females, but I found Maja sleeping just about upside down one day.
In a nice circle, just upside down, head sideways.
I thought, omg she is dead !!!!!! I gave her and myself a heartattack when I poked her and she woke up. She was deeply asleep until then, LOL.

I had one that loved putting her head under the water in her bowl and blowing bubbles at me when I had a panic attack she was drowning.

Clyde likes to stretch out with his belly in his water dish while periscoping. Monty rests his head on top of his hide and seems to rock it back and forth while he eats. Monty is a spider so he does lots of odd stuff.

I used to let Ragnarok roam my home, when I lived in an efficiency one bedroom apartment, (nowhere to escape or get lost). I once let him roam for awhile, and when I started to look for him, I found him 7 feet up the wall, hanging on the edge of the electrical panel. I didn't think it was possible he climbed the wall, using an ⅛ inch of grip with is belly scales! Balls are very proficient climbers! I wish I had a picture, because it looked like he was just hanging on the wall by super glue! I freaked out and grabbed him off right away, thinking he would fall or hurt his belly scales, but that was the day when I discovered that he loves to climb.

Just this morning my largest girl who just got finished with her breeding partner for this year was absolutely covered in poop. I wiped her down then put her in the shower stall temporarily while I cleaned up her huge mess. By the time I had gotten back she had managed to climb all the way up the fixtures and had opened the sliding door. I was really surprised. I didn't think she could get her fat butt up the wall. She really, really wanted out of the stall.

Germaine always goes under her water bowl. First time I caught her doing it I thought she got out lol

when i moved Yellow into his T8 he did not take to it very easily. there's was a month or so where he'd smash his face into the gap in what i can only assume was an attempt to get out. he'd sit and do this for like an hour, mess up his face...it was weird yet also very frustrating. he finally settled down after a couple months.

And here I thought I was the only one with a special needs snake LOL.
I opened Dante's cage this morning and started talking to him. He came out and this time came straight to my face and licked it then turned around and went back into the enclosure. I wish I had recorded that.

My oddball likes to try crawling across the top of her tub. Many times over half her body is upside down moving across the lid. I can never get a good pic of it. About the time I have the camera up and focused, she notices me and wants food.

This is by far the silliest thing I've caught him doing, so far at least. I walked into the room and found him just chilling like this.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...7072641622.jpg

my lesser male doesn't drink unless i spray the sides of his enclosure. he licks the water droplets off. i've shown him his water dish, but he refuses

Probe climbing, a saga that was cut short too soon lol. (She bypasses the probe for her ladder anymore).

And the first time we tried lying the cold rat on top of her tub. There is literally nothing in that corner for her to climb on, so this is literally sheer determination in physical form. And she's about a foot off the ground. Go figure.

Re: What's the weirdest thing you have caught your BP doing?
I will try getting a picture of it but the last week or so I've caught my ball python with her head and about 8" wedged between the glass and the litter dam. (Those of you with an Animal Plastics enclosure will know the space I'm talking about)

For me, it would have to be when I woke up at around 3AM and decided to check on my boy Sam. He is usually always under his warm rock hide, like, ALWAYS, so I scooted the lid back a little and checked under it. (I have a 20 gal tank with a screen lid) He wasn't under it, so I checked his other hide, and he wasn't there either! I tore up the substrate and looked everywhere but couldn't find him, so of course I was having a major panic attack because I truly thought he had escaped, I was shaking and on the verge of tears because, well, he's my lil baby and I thought I had lost him forever. My last hope was to give the tank a better check, so I took off the whole lid, and, SURPRISE!! He was LITERALLY just chilling in the lip of the lid at the top of the tank, completely invisible unless the lid was off. God knows how he fit his entire body up there and got himself to stay, but oh man did it give me a fright. He's so weird. Nevertheless, it was the most reliving moment of my life to see he hadn't escaped.

I so wished I had my phone with me because I really wanted a picture of this. In the 7 years of owning him, he has never once done this. I was walking to the kitchen to get some water before bed and noticed he was spread out. I did a double take because his head and neck seemed missing. I stopped in front of the enclosure and looked in. He was actively burrowing in the substrate.
He keeps doing the oddest things in his new home. I am scared one day I am going to not see him and think he escaped only to find him underground.

Maybe I'm just a worry wart, but mine like to do things that make me think they're sick or injured. Sometimes they drool, forget to put their lower jack back right, make wheezing/hissing noises as they breathe, or rub up against things that are sharp, spiky, or otherwise dangerous.
I've had snakes get tangled in the weirdest things. A burner grate on the oven, a three hold puncher, my recliner, a keychain...
-
Hmm the weirdest thing mine does once in awhile is being stretched out with his head in the cold hide and his tail in the warm hide... Or when he flicks his tongue in my eyeball that's another weird one! lol

Another odd one for me. I was feeding my girls on Sunday. One of mine that normally takes the rat in two seconds or doesn't want to eat refused so I figured she wasn't interested. I put the rat down and I left the tub open (not wise) on the table I feed at and then turned around to grab another tub. When I turned back the girl casually came half way out of her tub and took the rat right off the table.

Yes, that is the way it seems to be. It keeps the aspirin factories in business because of all the headaches created in the male population.

Back on snakes...
When you have a mature BP with "personality" and you get the bright idea to remove the decor and agitate the substrate because it still is producing too humid conditions... If your adult snake equates the holding tub as prison, expect him to be a ticked off little pistol when you pick him up and put him back in the cage. He was striking at me like I had taken away Christmas, terrorizing the enclosure trying to pull everything apart and swinging from branches like an angry chimp at the zoo. Surprisingly and this goes with a previous post about day/night lighting... as soon as the lights came on for the morning he calmed down and pouted away back into his hide with his head sticking out as usual. He is now curled up in the far back thinking of ways to kill me I am sure.
Moral is never ever try and remove an emotional snake from his enclosure before 8 AM and put him in the penalty box or feed him after midnight.

Mine does this too - usually right around feeding day - he's never caused any damage but sometimes he really shoves his head in, arching his neck to use his head as leverage...I thought he'd break his neck the first time.
The weirdest thing mine does is that he routinely drags his rat into his water dish before eating, no matter where he is fed in the tank he'll drag it to the dish, give it a quick dunk, then eat it. Like someone dipping their doughnut in their morning coffee :/
