anyone wish they had different morphs
I got an albino pin, an albino, and a pastel champagne (het albino) but kind of wish i'd chose something else. Now when I browse morph market there are snakes i'd rather have
I like the lesser and pastel calico yellowbelly (my favorite) that I have. For some reason I went from liking the more solid colored snakes to the more patterned ones.
But of course I still care for them a lot
-
There are so many, who could not like something they don't have? When I first started, I didn't like Piebalds, and I still don't like white snakes in general, but now I own 3 piebald genes! I realized I like the LOW_WHITE piebalds for their color. When I first started I liked bright yellow against dark black, like a citrus pastel lesser I saw, and anything like that with intense black and yellow, but now I grew kind of bored of that, and I am glad I didn't drop $300 on such a snake, though I might have to get one someday anyway! :P They are stunning.
-
Nope, I'm honestly and truly very happy with what I have.
But then again, I just recently got my dream snakes. I am looking for one more female and then I'll make more dream snakes with the ones I have.
That doesn't mean I don't admire and drool over MANY other morphs and often over pretty Normals. ( I find many normals more beautiful then some morphs.. )
-
There are lots of places that will buy your snakes. Just about any reptile store will pay you wholesale prices. Or if you can find a local breeder he may buy them fom you. Or maybe someone will try to sell them at a reptile show for a percent commission. Craigslist is a good place to sell local, or if you ship you can try Morphmarket. I know a lot of people that buy whole collections at a discount then sell them at reptile shows.

Re: anyone wish they had different morphs
Nope. Happy with my normal.
-
I'm pretty set on having one snake, but...what I wouldn't give for a nice reduced patterned normal female:rage:
I'm pretty happy with my pastel boy and wouldn't give him up for the most expensive morph on the market, but I still admire all the other cool and beautiful morphs. Who doesn't?
Interests do tend to change though. When I first got in the hobby, all the 5 gene flashy snakes caught my eye and now? I greatly enjoy the simplicity of normals (fav!) and single gene morphs.
-
well i do kinda wish all of mine were Super's and the hets were visual Recessive's.
-
Re: anyone wish they had different morphs
I'd love to have an Albino but I love my Dean :)
-
When I purchased my first 3 (between 5 and 3 years ago) prices were higher on some morphs, causing me to just pick my favorites from those in my price range. Of my original 3, a cinnamon, a pastel enchi, and a pastave, (all female) I still love the way the cinnamon looks, but now that I'm beginning to focus on breeding, I realize that the other two (who haven't aged as well) don't really fit into my plans any more. Not only that, but they aren't the best f/t feeders, so that could be effecting my thoughts of them somewhat.
I am now starting my first breeding project and have decided to focus on hypos. I wish that I had just bitten the bullet and purchased hypos back then, or at least hets that had other morphs.
I may end up selling two of my females (the pastave and pastel enchi) but will probably always hang onto my cinnamon for sentimental reasons.
-
I have become less interested in the skin color of a snake and more interested in the snake itself. I would love more species over more morphs. Give me an interesting reptile with cool physical characteristics and fascinating behavior and I won't care if it is boring brown and dull colored.
-
And on another note:
Which would you pick: a nice single gene that's going to stay nice looking its whole life or a 5 gene that's going to look a hot mess 2 years from now? There's a reason majority of those multi gene flashy morphs only have pictures of first shed hatchlings and at most, yearlings on WOBP:rofl:
-
Re: anyone wish they had different morphs
You're just reacting to a changing market is all.....and I'm guilty of being wowed as to what is available now.
I can remember not too long ago when a low white pied would run you $2000 ALL DAY, and they would sell as fast as the breeders could produce them
Now I look on Kingsnake and see the prices and can't believe how little once AMAZING morphs are going for.
Deals are still out there on expensive animals however!....watched a guy not too long ago pick up a scaleless het for $1200. :O Good luck finding that price!!!

Got my scaleles head for $900 :)
As for what I would change had I known better. I would have gotten more recessive genes and not as many codom most of mine are codom. I have some recessive stuff but I'm further behind because I didn't jump on as fast as I could have
-
As a pet owner (any pet) you don't give them up because you like another one better. I don't get that at all. They become a family member. I love my boople and I wouldn't give her up for anything. Yep there are prettier snakes out there, so what. I can admire them but I won't sell boople because I'm suddenly not happy with how she looks as opposed to a different one.
I can see why breeders do it. That I feel is different.

Agreed!
I got my scaleless head male for $1,200 just a month or so ago, but he was 500 grams and ready to breed. Very few totally scaleless animals out there right now and they command high prices, the real delay is the time it takes to grow up the females. I can't wait to work my scaleless project into my Desert Ghosts! I also saw a pied scaleless head so people are already way ahead of the game working it into recessives.
Here's the girl I just picked up, a Desert Ghost bumble bee!

1. Gorgeous animal!
2. I'm new and not familiar with all of the designer morphs, does scaleless head mean what it sounds like? It has no scales on its head?

That's exactly what it means, and it varies from snake to snake but usually there are just some scales missing right on top. The super form of said morph is a totally scaleless snake.

Nope I am very satisfied with what I have and I wouldn't trade mine for the world. Of course there are other morphs I would love to have additionally but even if I get more flashy expensive ones my basic pastel enchi will always be my favorite!! :)
-
I wish I had all of the morphs, does that count?
There are a few I might think of selling once I've bred them a few times and gotten the babies I want, but most of the snakes I have now I plan on keeping indefinitely. Even my mystery girl. Originally the plan was to prove her out and then sell her, but now I'm attached.
I've got a list a mile long of morphs I'd love to work with someday, but most of the ones I don't already have are either not that high on my list of favorites, or not in my price range. I think I got really lucky with my current collection though. I can't wait to see what they produce.

I'm going to be getting a female desert ghost once Monty finishes his qt. Really want that gene for my eventual plans.

I think it's a good one too, I see a lot of Desert Ghost snakes but not a lot of genes in the mix, seems like people are working mostly with pastel and spider because it really looks good with DG. I'd like to see what it does with other genes, thinking of trying to get a Desert Ghost Bamboo, should be a stunner! Will take me about six years to produce it though LOL.

There are actually quite a few combos out there now.
It does extremely well with Leopard combos, Orange Dream, Pinstripe, Enchi, Butter, etc. Also start seeing it in combination with Clown and Pied now. I've seen a beautiful 5 gene animal with Sugar and Pinstripe in it last year.
A lot of new stuff coming out, but I do feel like the market with DG is more advanced in Europe, but quickly catching up over here, too :)
with Leopard (images not mine, but I have permission to post them)

I don't even remember what all was in these, but they are stunners. Bottom one was bred by Justin K. and photographed at a show.

Desert Ghost with Bamboo sounds gorgeous !! Bamboos have such beautiful patterns and the DG would clean it up, brighten it and make it POP. I do hope You or someone will work with this combination :)

Re: anyone wish they had different morphs
No i don,t wish that my BP has a different morph. He was my first snake, and when i got him i had zero knowledge of snakes. I personally don't care about the morph. He is Pastel though.

I agree, it really has not made its way to many combos yet. I’m already combining it with pastel, ghi and leopard. It will be a while but my other top morphs to include are orange dream, enchi and lesser/butter. Bamboo should be great as well. I also added this little girl recently, pastave DGhttps://ball-pythons.net/forums/cach...243d0ed78d.jpg

No, because I saved and purchased just the morphs I wanted with future breeding plans considered, so I have a manageable number and very specific goals.

That's the key phase.." I saved and purchased the morph I wanted" Now a days there are so many morphs being born it will spin your head, but those higher end morphs that catch the human eye usually comes at a high price.
Some people just settle on whatever they can afford just to have a snake, but in the end they are not satisfied with their purchase. This leads to rehoming the snake or even just abandonng the snake to the outdoors to fend for itself (And yes, I've seen someone do that before).
It is a gift to be able to own one of these amazing creatures. And I believe that the TRUE beauty of one is left in the eye of the beholder. No matter what they look like they are all "priceless" to some extent. And l totally agree to save your money to purchase what will make you happy because after all these lovely creatures are going to be with you a very long time. :gj:

Love the species, not the paint job. That's my motto and I stick to it. Except for hairless animals. Those things creep me out!
