    Anyone Use Sphagnum Moss?
I picked up a brick earlier this week, I'm going to use it when Germaine ( my bp ) goes into shed to bump up the humidity. Anyone else use it?

Yup great stuff! Bumps humidity super well and I like putting it inside (or on top of) my bp's hides when he's in shed. Had only positive experiences with it so far.

I’ve got some too! Looking forward to my girls first shed (with me). Hoping it will go well.

i bought a brick of the stuff almost 3 years ago and still have some of it. i only have one glass enclosure that houses a beep and the sphagnum moss work great for shedding as well as maintaining proper humidity (b/c it's a mesh top and it sucks).

Wonderful stuff. I put it in a plastic container int he enclosure to keep it somewhat contained. Of course my snake would daily flip the thing like a table but it was still easy to take out and spot mist. Of course now that I have the humidity generating monster that is a PVC enclsoure, not sure if that is needed anymore. On a side note... DO NOT put any wet/damp/not completely dry substrate in a pvc enclosure!

Pull the trigger if you can afford it. I recommend the LED lighting option. It is wonderful. AP and RBI both offer really nice installed LED options. PVC is the best thing I ever did for my snake.

I have PVC cages but still put a bowl of damp spaghum moss in their cage when it gets dry over the winter months in Michigan. You can re wet it several times too. I just make sure it still smells fresh and woodsy - once it starts to smell mildewing its gone.

I've been looking at AP stuff, what cage did you get for your bp?

Depending on the size of your bp - you could get an AP T8 cage with the divider so you could house two snakes in one cage. Each with their own side. I used the divider when my boas were too young for the whole 4 foot cage. I just mounted two 40 watt RHP's - one on each side. Worked beautiful.

Now they are bigger of course and they have the whole cage to them selves with an 80 watt RHP off to one side. Couldn't be happier.

Yes, I love the stuff. It gets very dry in Va in the winter and I keep this in the corners to help. Also its very soft and I stuff one hide with it so my snake also has somewhere to "burrow" if he wants as well as offering a textural difference to lay on. He uses it a few times a week.

On a side note, if you are using it when wet, make sure you put it in a shallow dish or on a plate so the bedding under it isn't constantly wet. Sphagnum moss is resistant to mold, but a lot of the bedding is not (except cypress mulch - but I wouldn't risk it being wet 24/7 either).

When you see that his belly is getting pink or he is looking ready to shed you can add a terra cotta pot with moist sphagnum moss on his warm side to use if he needs to

If you go AP, do the T10 for sure. I would get their flexwatt option, door lock, and LED option at least. you have to call for the LED as it is not on the site yet.

I went Reptile Basics (Vivarium Electronics) for the cage, RHP and heat tape UTH. The door has 3 nice latches so I did not need a lock. Shipping and processing was 13 business days from time of order until delivered.
I have a write up here:

Here is a write up on a T8 which aside from being shorter vertical is the same width and length.

Here is a picture gallery of someone with the LED lighting from AP.

The price for both are roughly the same when you factor in LED lights and shipping. AP has some nice options but I wanted a flip down door and the free shipping when I ordered the three items sold me. Both are excellent companies and I do not want to discourage AP, they are a gold standard for PVC. When in doubt, go AP ;)
