I get having fears but this is just... WOW
My dad has a nurse coming in 5 days a week to make sure he's kept clean fingernails trimmed etc it wasn't his usual nurse it was a fill in replacement. As soon as she saw my bp jeffrees tank and found out there was a snake in there she bolted out of here in a very rude way saying "I have to go I'm gonna tell them not to send me here again I didn't know there was a snake here blah blah blah" at first I didn't say anything because I thought she was kidding. But I did let her have it! I get having fears I'm terrified of spiders but wouldn't react that way to a spider locked in a tank. His usual nurse is scared of snakes she never reacted that way. My mom is scared of snakes she still comes here and doesn't react like that unless I took him out which I would never do to someone! Oh and also jeffree was in his hide so it's not like she could even see him..

Anyways rant over has anyone else ever had a situation similar to this happen? And how could anyone be scared of this face?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...98ed7b8887.jpg

Don't judge too harshly. Most fears are pretty irrational - and therefore difficult to control. A lot of people also react badly to being startled or surprised by something they're afraid of. She might have acted differently had she known.

I've been very good about keeping my snakes in places where people cant see them unless they absolutely want to see them. I understand being afraid of things - because no, I would NOT like to be exposed to a spider even in a cage. I'm terrified of them. Completely irrationally, I know they do more harm than good, etc... but I don't want to be surprised by one for sure!

Be respectful of people and their fears, and you'll be surprised with how many people will return that respect to you and your animals.

that nurse had a job to do and a duty to ensure the patient is cared for. the fact that she just LEFT without doing her duties is a testament to her compassion as a nurse...there's a reason she was probably just a replacement.

thankfully i've never had an experience like that. i've gotten lots of wide-eyed stares and dumb questions, but never outright vitriol or someone literally too scared to be in the same room/house.

that's good you stood up for yourself, and hopefully you stood up for your father too.

    ignorance. ignorance everywhere. :)

Yup, a few of my wife's "friends" will no longer come over at night. The snakes are in their own rooms (enclosure room and seperate qt room) but i do my handling at night when i get off work. One screamed and ran out of the house when she came in. I had Clyde around my neck while i was making coffee. Absolutely hilarious because Clyde is my calmest, he's the one I let kids (under my supervision) hold. Oh also jeffree has an adorable snoot.

honestly, if this ever happened to me i'd probably break down and cry. the rejection of something i love – on top of me causing someone to be so scared – would be too much for me. :(

I had no idea she was coming over and it serves her right for walking into my house without even knocking. I'm kind of an unrepentent jerk so i just laughed about it. If I knew she was coming by I would have waited until after her visit.

Before she even saw the tank she was giving off the vibe she didn't wanna be here so as far as im concerned it was an excuse also when you have a job that you're paid for that takes you in people's homes you do your job also her job takes place in my bathroom not the living room so she didn't even have to see the tank.. Also before they even started coming to do home care they asked me to LIST ALL MY PETS in case of allergies etc and I listed the snake because I know not everyone is cool with snakes

She was a nurse and should have completed her job. Her job is to visit houses and treat patients.

The snake was in his enclosure and in hide. she should have completed her task. She probably is more at risk to a dog attack at house then a hidden snake attack. :confusd:

I do! [emoji119][emoji854] my best friends dad, a really nice guy, no qualms against him... Well for the most part. As soon as he heard I had a snake he started to call me crazy, call my little guy a killer, and say that he would kill me when he gets bigger and that snakes are unfeeling and unable to form connections. This man has a German Shepard, I am afraid of German Shepard's because of a traumatic childhood experience. But I won't tell him that his dog is going to kill him in his sleep or is disgusting or that he's insane for paling German Shepard's. This is a grown man and it gets me so heated to hear him speak so childishly.

this is something that gets me, too: people with these big dogs being afraid of snakes. like, i dated a dog trainer who worked with the worst cases in all of Chicago; i've seen Pit Bulls fight to kill each other (accidental trigger that took 5 solid kicks to the face to break up), i've seen the aftermath of a Rottweiler's teeth making contact with his torso, i've seen what a dog is capable of! the fact that the fear of dogs is generally not as accepted in society is something i just don't understand.

YES!!! I've been hurt by a nice cat before I was walking down the hallway and my sister's cat was just running for no apparent reason as cats do and ran over my foot and those claws were out it left a cut that was probably 6 inches long on my foot and it took forever to go away to this day you can still see the faint scar and that was like 5 years ago!

Aww beep bite!!! That does sound cute I'm pretty sure the time I cut myself on a steak knife while doing dishes hurt more than any Beep bite would! Or the time I got a sewing needle through the side of my foot because it was on the floor it literally went through I could see both ends of the needle!

she was in fight or flight mode. happens to lotsa peeps when they're confronted by their fear and she chose to flee. it's primal and irrational. they just need to be eased into it. i've seen the same happen to police officers who come into home w/ snakes and lizards lol.

True enough. Primates have an evolutionary fear of snakes. Useful if you live near wild venomous species, irrational when it comes to pets.

it's the same reason why some don't wanna go swimming in the ocean even when they don't see a shark.

That's not a good comparison considering sharks can easily come into contact with a person swimming without being seen beforehand vs a ball python locked in a cage they can't escape from. Also if I were that afraid of snakes I would have asked before I even entered the house she called me last night to let me know she was coming today and called me again today to verify my address one of those times would have been the perfect opportunity to say "by the way you don't own any snakes do you because I can't be around them" also I listed all our pets with the service in case of allergies etc and I listed the snake because I figured it was relevant! Btw I'm not arguing and I thank you for your input!

Btw I'm not arguing and I thank you for your input!

but if u can't see the snake in the cage, are u sure it's in there? is it in a hide? or did it get out like last time?: https://ball-pythons.net/forums/show...a-heart-attack i think you're splitting hairs. also u cannot expect her to ask those questions if u didn't think she was a good nurse/employee in the first place.

anyways i made a sign for us herpers. have a cookie and be sure to hang this up in your house:

I'd contact her employment agency and let them know... Whoever you had to sign up with for care. They probably did not tell her about the snake or she didn't read the info they gave her. In either instance, it needs to be reported to prevent it from happening in the future. They also need to know that your father did not receive care. If you pay for that care, they need to remit the cost of that visit. If your insurance pays for the care, still contact them and tell them that you need to have a makeup visit to compensate or you will contact your insurance agency and report the incident, etc.

The women did act unprofessionally and although people can have serious irrational fears, she should have come back after the freak out to at least explain and schedule someone else to come and do the appointment if she was literally that afraid.

I've actually had the opposite reaction from people who are legitimately afraid of snakes IRL, which is kind of weird, considering how I'm expecting the 'KILL IT WITH FIRE' response bc that's my response to spiders most of the time. Unless they're someone's pets. Then I just won't say anything and maybe look at it from a distance. Because they ARE interesting, I just don't want them on me. (someone on my facebook feed keeps insects and spiders, and her spider disappeared for about three days, then reappeared inside its enclosure. that's a solid NOPE for me but she's happy so i'm obviously not gonna say anything lmao.)

But most of the folks I talk to about my noodle react with the typical 'HOLY CRAPOLA WHAT????? WHY?' before then asking all kinds of questions. Or this older lady I work with is terrified, but I mention doing things like making hats for snakes and she then gives me all these cool ideas for materials and mini fake flowers and stuff.

Worst response I've had was from my brother, who hates snakes anyways (once his high school band took a trip to florida and he was freaking out about all the WILD GIANT PYTHONS in the area that were going to eat him upon arrival. he almost didn't go.)

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The spider was out for 3 days??? Oh hell NO!!!!!! NOOOOPEE!!! If I even see a little spider in my room I won't sleep til I know it's flushed down the toilet let alone a pet I'm assuming tarantula... I was born in Florida so I can actually say invasive Burmese pythons are the least of my worries especially since there's actual venomous snakes commonly around along with huge spiders Nuh uh I don't know what my parents were ever thinking for moving there at one point!!!
