ok, i thought this might be fun or interesting. dig up/find your first post on BP.net and re-post it here LOl. it might be a question about your BP, it might be an intro, it might be spam, whatever your first post was - post it here. :)

    anyway here's my first post:

My interest in getting a snake happened the other day when I decided to stroll a local pet shop after lunch where I saw some cool snakes and saw that they were more affordable then I had thought. It was on my mind the rest of the day, so I decided to internet research ball pythons and watched a couple vids online.

So here I am today, setting up a terrarium. I hope to have my own ball python within the week. :D Also I look forward to learning about ball pythons and snakes here on the forum and having fun. Thanks for reading.

    lol whatta noob!

over the past month or so before i brought Yellow home (his full name is Yellow Lemon Lemongrab [goofy, i know]), i was scouring the internet trying to find every piece of information and every answer to my questions i could think of for setting up his home, but i always found myself coming to this site, and 9 times out of 10 i found what i was looking for. after all of the money i spent, and all the products i've bought and returned, after all the trial and error, i just wanted to say THANK YOU to all of you for being so open and ready to answer newbie questions, as they have helped me so much in making sure i was providing a perfect home! you guys were also the reason i decided to join this community, so that i know if i ever have questions i know you guys can help.

Yellow hasn't come out of his warm hide since i put him in (which i think is a good thing), and this Friday i plan on trying to feed him for the first time. it has been PAINFUL not to see his adorable face, but i know that means he's happy.

    here's my specs:
Yellow (Male Albino) was hatched September 20th 2014 (i have a picture posted on my profile)
He is housed in a 20 gallon, 30x12x12 glass tank with a mesh top which i have systematically taped Ceran wrap over with slits cut into it
His substrate is Coconut fiber with some Aspen on top, as well as repti-carpet underneath.
His heat comes from a UTH that covers half of his tank, which is hooked up to a rheostat with a probe
    Warm side: 89-92*F
    Cool side: 79-81*F
    Humidity: 55-63*F
Two identical hides (which i think might be too big, but he will grow)

again, A HUGE THANK-YOU TO THIS COMMUNITY! i'm so happy to have Yellow in my life. (:

BLAH BLAH BLAH hahahaha. i can't believe i used to use that carpet stuff...

i remember researching for like, 6 months straight on here and writing things down, making lists. the only reason i became a member was just to say thanks to everyone. look at me now, 3 years later and 5 snakes total!!!

Coming at you from all the way back in 2005 - another lifetime ago for me! I remember this guy, I ended up naming Diablo. He still has a home with an ex-forum member as well :D

The little guy has been through a lot to say the least, RI's and bad treatment. Anyway, his foster 'parent' and I were in communication, and she shipped him overnight to me. Unfortunately, due to weather conditions or some such bull, the poor guy wasn't delivered on Friday morning... he was delivered on MONDAY morning. He was in the box for four days and nights. I didn't have much hope that he would make it... but, low and behold, he survives on. Now, the question I have... his foster 'parent' said that he had never been nippy before and that even her children could handle him. Yesterday, however, when I got me out of the box, he bit me. He bit me again when I was putting him into his tub... and struck countless other times. I've left him alone since then. I'm hoping if I leave him alone for a week or so, maybe he'll go back to his normal temperament. The foster agrees. She thinks he's just completely stressed. What do you guys think? Good idea? Any other suggestions?

Thinking about getting a bp but have a few questions...

Hi! I am thinking about getting a male ball python (not to breed, just because they stay a bit smaller :)) and I have some questions. First of all, this would be my first snake and reptile in general, so forgive me if i say something wrong! My first question is that I have 2 guinea pigs and I'm wondering if It'd be OK to keep the snake in the same room? Idk if the snake could smell the gp and get stressed or vice versa. Also, Is it better to get a baby or to adopt an adult? I thought maybe the older one could be more used to its previous owner and be harder to tame. And, I was planning on keeping it in a 20 gal. while it's young (like 1-2 yrs old) then moving it to a 40 gal. But I saw a guy who just keeps his bps in a 20 gal. their whole life because they are very inactive? What should I do there? And does anyone know a place where you can get cheap, healthy ball pythons? I do know a guy who hatched 2 normal, male ball pythons about a year ago, so I might just purchase 1 from him :) Thanks in advance!

Here I am now with my 2nd!:snake::carrot::dance::banana::snake:

Hello everyone! New to the forum and the world of snakes!

I'm planning on getting a male ball python and was wondering what a good permanent tank size would be for him when he's an adult/fully grown? I'm looking into getting a pvc cage from Animal Plastics and deciding between their T10 (48x24x15) or their specialty Carpet Cage (36x24 x15).

Would 36 in length be large enough for a male or too cramped? Or should I get the 48 to be safe? I heard some males can grow as big as females.

    Thanks in advance!

My first post was me asking a question about moving my snake. Months later and that move will actually be happening this week XD It took a while lol. I had been lurking here for a good year just doing research and reading through posts, so my first post was a question that I couldn't find the answer to fully in past posts because it was for my specific situation. Then I started look at other peoples posts and I knew the answer to the questions so I thought I'd help, and I got hooked! XD

I am moving from North Florida to Oklahoma soon and we are driving both a Uhaul and a car back. The trip itself is about 1,100 miles and if we did it all in one go it would take about a day to make but we may make a stop at a family members house half way. My ball python is pretty young, not a baby but juvenile for sure and was 110 grams the last time I weighed him. He will not be the only animal making the trip, there will also be a dog and two cats coming with us, the cats will be in carriers but the dog is too large so he will be free for the most part.

Our plan at first was to put the dog and cats in the car and have the snake go in the cabin of the uhaul but after reading up on the effect of vibration on them and how they should be kept mostly stationary for stress in not so sure how good that would be for him. I know shipping is also an option but I would have to ship him before I go so he would get there before me and all of his things, so he would end up just being in the box until I get there anyways.

So I guess my question is would he be okay in an insulated box or tub with heat pads for 24 hours or more,is there a better way to store him? And if so would it be better to have him alone in the uhaul where there will be more car moment and vibrations but not as big a risk of a dog accedently knocking into him or something or would it be better to take the risk of the car? Or would he just be better off being shipped and staying in the box until I make it there with all his stuff.

I just want to do what is safest for him.

How's this? My first post here (March 2013) was about being patient, picky, and finding exactly the right girl for me. Some things never change!
    Quote:

    Hey, everyone!

I'm looking for a nice quality female Enchi and a nice quality female Butter/Lesser, but either I'm being too picky or the 2012 girls have been picked through pretty well. My question is is it worth it to wait for the new 2013 clutches to have a chance at the picks of the litters, or should I continue to hold out hope for the possibility of some 2012s to become available? I'm in no rush by any means, so I don't mind waiting for a couple of beautiful ladies.

On that note, I feel like I've looked everywhere online, but I'm always open to new ideas. Anyone have any recommendations on who to look at/where to look for quality Enchis and/or quality Butters/Lessers in the relatively near future? I've been on KS pretty much daily and I usually hit up a few of the most common breeder's sites about once a week or so for updates - of which there haven't been many lately. I assume this is because most are waiting on 2013 clutches.

Thanks for your help/insight in advance!

Using a tank setup (vs. tub) seems like a much more costly option, though both options appear to work? Is the tank setup mostly just aesthetic?

I've read that BP do not need lighting, but would they be alright in truly 90% darkness all the time, just to be sure?

Also, just curious what the reason is for covering 3 sides of the tank? (I assume for the snake to feel secure)

And finally... not a question in the right forum, but could anyone recommend reliable breeders for getting a BP online? Or any known good breeders in the Orange County/LA area?
