Herpstat Probe Placement on a T8
Should have my BEL delivered in about an hour or so (hopefully), so just doing last minute tweaks in the enclosure.

T8, split in half. Right side has the Mexican Black Kingsnake, left side will have my incoming ball. Obviously, each half is 24"x24".

Opinions on probe placement, if its good there?

The RHP is more towards the front right. I placed the probe in the rear left, about 2.5" off the floor. See pics.

The herpstat is set to 80 degrees... and, right now, after running all night, left cool side says 80 and right side says 87. Humidity after some spraying shows 69% (was higher, but going down now).

    All comments and opinions welcomed...

Side note. Get rid of that skull. recent post on the snake subreddit showed exactly what can happen due to those skulls.

    YES!

That's where I've had mine set for six years without problem. (Also running a T8 with an rhp) Given the size of your animal though, I usually aim to have the tip of the probe just slightly above where the top of the BP would be.

Your new buddy should be set. You may want to save yourself paper towel in the future though and pick up some indented Kraft paper however (found on Amazon or Uline). You get a HUGE roll of it that will last you a long time for not much money (at least compared to paper towel prices nowdays).

Certainly don't want that to happen to this girl. Is that from sharp edges maybe?

Good to know, thanks. I will look into that, and probably pick up a roll. Ultimately I want to use Reptichip, which I have a ton of, but initially want the paper. But, good to have it all on-hand.

IMO i would place the probe more towards the center divider closer to the RHP. it would allow for a more accurate reading near the heat source.

Edit1: also post more pix of your new 0.1 BEL when u get the chance. she's a pretty gurl.

    Edit2: are u wearing a G-Shock? i own a few. those are the best!

Personally, I'd place the probe as low as possible so you have an accurate reading/temp where your BP actually is. Since your probe is higher, the temp on the floor might be higher than you want it to be.

I am going to play around with the probe. Bob at Pro Panels recommended placing the probe on the cool side, and set the temp to what I want for the cool side (I have it set to 80). And then the warm side should be good. I have a regular standard humidity/thermometer on the warm side, to watch those temps and the humidity. Will also use the Infrared Thermometer Gun to check all the temps.

The heat source is the RHP on top. No heat source on the bottom. Where the probe is now is theoretically the absolute coolest spot in the enclure (not including in the hide). I thought I read it shouldn't be too close to the floor. But, the probe is set up so I can shift it a bit, including pulling it lower to the floor. Going to play with that. Thank you for the info.

Getting a little concerned with humidity using paper towels now. I'll see what the readings are tomorrow, and then re-evaluate for humidity.

I'm using only RHP as well with my probe almost near the ground which gives me exact temp where the BP hangs out. If you're using paper towels, keeping the humidity up does become an issue. Either switch substrate or add damp spaghum moss.

This is how my RHP probe set up. I personally only care about my overall ambient temp. Don't really care about creating hot/cool zones.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...ec6f8e3f06.jpg
