The little one shakes like a dog playing tug of war as he tries to down my finger.

What do they usually get for dinner - besides you? ;) I see a ladybug and was wondering if that was one the menu or just flying through.

Nice tigers! Where did you find them? We had a few of them growing up, we found the 1st one in the skimmer box of our pond. We kept her and named her Sally, go figure! We had another, Alex that we found a year later. They lived together until Alex died. I have since moved away from home, my mother still feeds Sally regularly. She lives in a 20L, looks a lot like a turtle enclosure. He has to be at least 7 years old now, given we found her 7 summers ago. She eats mealworms, we were told to pinch the heads before we fed them to her, otherwise they (the worms) could munch through the stomach of the salamanders.

    Good luck!

The ladybug was just a passerby (we get swarmed by the darn things). They normally eat lobster roaches and mealworms. The mealworm eating through stomach thing is a complete myth. Drop a mealy in water and it immediately starts to writhe in death throes.. imagine it munching on the intestinal lining while swimming in digestive juices! No way.

These guys were bought, not found. The small spotted one is mine, and the big chunker is my friend's that I am taking care of for her.

Awesome pics. It doesn't hurt when they bite; it gives me the chills though! Makes me miss my tiger sal; donated him to a pet store for display purposes. I still see him every so often though!

How darn cute are they! Hey Shelby you need a sign on your property though, something to the effect of "Guard Salamanders on Duty" LOL

lol yeah the bite is like sandpaper. Scuffs my fingernails.

Joanna, I need one of those signs. Let me know if you see any. ;)

They let go eventually.. at least the big one does, but the small one tends to inch his way up my finger for a bit first.

I love the last one, he just doesn't want to give up his soilin greens'
We can not keep Tigers here in CT as pets, but we have had a few rehabbers come through. The last one was a three legger, he did so well we released him.
Great little (or big) sal's to keep

lol.. I couldn't get a pic of the little one when he hangs from my finger completely off the ground and then shakes violently from side to side. I got a video of it though.. it's so funny.

Oh he's one of those really rare pit bull salamanders is he? How funny. You think they'd somehow sense you could squash em and not get all "attitude" with you LOL.

I don't think they realise that pink soft yummy thing is attached to that big giant thing.
