Kitty Progression (Mojave Piebald)

I just picked up my new baby today from a local breeder. I couldn't be happier. Female mojave piebald ball python. Her name is Kitty.

I personally don't favor the high-white snakes, but I love the little butterscotch candy colored head! Reminds me of a candy with white cream, lol.

Kitty is SUCH an adorable name for a snake!

I would have preferred to give her a rat fuzzy but my local store was out so I started with a pink just to see if she would take it and if she didn't my pastel boy, Fluffy, would take it for a snack. Fluffy had a big meal two days ago and was begging while I was feeding her, he'll seriously eat anything almost any time.

I always feel better after they eat for me the first time.

Fluffy and Kitty side by side comparison. He is around 450 grams(hatched end of April) she was 116 last she was weighed.



She ate again last night. She was out patrolling when I was thawing Fluff's rat so I got a rat pup out for her. Her last feeding was a pink and barely a snack. She slammed that pup fast.

I did recently make some modifications to Kitty's hides. I bought them because they were inexpensive but they are a bit big. I cut them down and sanded them so that they are a bit more snuggly.

I plan on getting a something for her to climb. She seems super interested in climbing and is always on the t-stat cables when she is out.

I bought Miss Kitty a little drift wood jungle gym. She had been performing impressive acrobatics with just the probe cords so I thought she'd get some use out of it. Happy to report that my little climber is a fan.

It is interesting to observe the difference in the character of these two snakes. Where Fluffy is Mr Chill. Curious and easy going, likes exploring, nothing much phases him. Doesn't hiss, has never offered to bite since he has been home. Kitty is far more skittish and on occasion will occasionally bluff strike if perturbed, and when handled goes into rock mode. She is improving with handling, but the difference between them is quite stark.

Thanks! I try to do the best with what I have. They are glass tanks which are not the most ideal but I've made modifications to try to overcome their shortcomings. When Kitty is ready to size up I'm planning to bite the bullet and invest in pvc cages for them both.

I was spraying cages and checking for poops and guess who was super blue.

Curse this red bulb. Not conducive to photography.

Kitty has been out and about this evening even with a rat belly which you can kinda see in the photo.

No shed yet but she is making good use of her driftwood. She also blessed me with a sizable poo.

Little girl slammed another rat pup on the 13th. I thought Fluffy was an enthusiastic feeder but this one starts hitting the glass and the lid and shadows passing on feeding day.

Little lamb the rest of the time.

I had her out for a bit tonight while spot cleaning. She was out basking on her branch and I just gently picked her up.

I would recommend covering up the back and sides to give a better sense if security. This way you still can view the snake from the front, but there will be a more closed, covert ambience for the snake to feel more safe.
Also, depending on what you use, it can help heat retention, I uses metallic bubble wrap insulation when i had a glass tank and it worked well for both heat and security.

Covering the sides is planned just not complete. Her last enclosure was covered.

I have been running my glass tanks for nearly a year now and I have both my heat and humidity managed. All heat sources are on thermostats. I own a temp gun. My snakes both are little porkers, the eat, they shed clean. You can scroll back though the images I have shared for proof. I've got a handle on it.

The glass tank is not the end game in any case. They will have AP cages ultimately.
