Help. I have a rescue but unsure on the genetics.
I got a beautiful female a few weeks ago as a rescue. The person said it was a caramel but i think he's completely wrong. I think it's a lesser or a butter but cant tell the difference.

Pics would help to see if you're right but butter and lesser are the same [emoji14] There is no difference

I was leaning towards butter from the first pic but the second and third picture look like a different snake. Lol. I am going to go with caramel though. Nice rescue. :D

The issue with it being caramel is that she doesn't have albino eyes.

Well, the pictures aren't very clear. All the caramels I've seen didn't have the really red/pink eyes of the normal Albinos, or at least they didn't appear so at first look? Even on pictures its hard to tell.
OP, are the eye lenses reddish ? Close up of eye?
Here are two caramels for example..notice the eyes.

And here is a video of one...can't see the eyes until about 2 minutes 40 seconds into it ...lol

I have a Pastel Lesser female at home and also a hatchling. Colors just look different to me (not just because of the added pastel)
Re: Help. I have a rescue but unsure on the genetics.
She's just fed so i don't want to bug her for pictures. I did shine a light in them and saw no red or pink. She has greenish gray eyes.

I guess she could be Lesser/Butter then..
;)
Re: Help. I have a rescue but unsure on the genetics.
Was the animal is shed in the first pic? Bc the second and third photos seem to show a much more defined coloration and patterning. Maybe the lighting and the focus on the closeup. OK.

Different lighting. The first was under flourescent the other ones were incandescent lighting.

Actually the first is closer to her colors. The less lighting and shadows in the 2nd and 3rd exaggerated the darker paterning. She's so light that at first i suspected she had ghost. I've been able to rule that out after a shed, and as I've said to others I've thoroughly examined her eyes and they have no signs of albinoism ruling out a caramel. The possibility of an ultramel still exists.

I'm guessing that's why big breeders can get a better price for their snakes, the genetics are guaranteed, they don't mess around with breeding snakes with unknown genetics and then guessing. Probably why it was passed on as a 'rescue'. I'd start with the person you got it from, ask them where they got it from and trace it back, see if you can track it down. If it came from a big chain pet store you may be able to find the breeder that sells to them and ask the breeder. That's a good looking snake though, and a great size for breeding!
Was a rescue because her original owner lost their house to the wildfires that rocked B.C this year. That's why i am unable to get a hold of him to trace the line.

Ahh okay then yes, lesser/butter
Re: Help. I have a rescue but unsure on the genetics.
Quick update. Got hold of the original owner traced her back to the breeder Marcus Jayne. She's a lesser from the Ralph Davis line.
