Something wrong with my new BP?
He always is in the S position (dunno if you guys call it something else) But I mean the strike position. Lots of time near the top of tank.

I have his temperatures regulated w/ thermostat, 95 on warm side, 85 on cool, two solid black hides, water in middle, some grassy stuff for him to crawl through (even though he doesn't)

I have coconut husk im going to put in once I get back in town from a trip, and clean his tank... he is eating fine, and pooping fine... he just always seems like he is waiting to strike, maybe he is hungry? It's been a week, can't feed him til I get home. Maybe one small mouse is not enough for him I am going to weigh him later and check a feeding chart.

Hopefully he is just hungry and that is why he always lurking in his strike position.

Also, the walls of his tank are solid black so he doesn't see distractions... we mist tank a few times a day, clean him with repti mite spray... like I said, he eats fine, doesn't bite me unless I startle him from a sleep by picking up the hide, and pooping normal..

Also, last time he pooped it resembled a mouse.. is this normal? It was almost as if the mouse was not 100% processed lol. I swear i could see mouse fur and the shape of a squished mouse!!

Temps are too high. And are you sure that "poop" wasn't a resurge or vomit?

No I am not.. sorry for using a curse word in original post. What do you mean temps too high that was what someone told me from this forum... its actually around 92.5 so what should it be? And Why would he puke the mouse up? too big?

It looks like he is trying to get out!
The HOTTEST SPOT on the bottom of the enclosure on one side should be maximum 92 F.
The ambient temps should be in the low 80s. The COOLEST area in the tank should be maximum 82 F, minimum 78 F. in that range.
I have mine set this way. The hot spot is heated by heat tape under the enclosure and is set to 92 F. The ambient temperatures are regulated by the room temps, typically the coolest part of the enclosure is around 81 F in my enclosures.

They need a way to cool off sometimes, and a temp around 80 F will allow them to do so.

    Hi

What are you using to take the temperatures incidentally ?

sounds like a regurg. How soon after eating did this happen? Did it smell bad?

many reasons an animal might regurg - too low temps, too high temps, too large of a meal, stress, bad feeder, snake is sick, etc

I have digital thermometers and the probes are under each hide, taped to the glass, under his bedding. The hot side temperature will be warmer right on the glass, compared to up on his bedding. So I usually turn it up a little bit to compensate. Maybe i should not do that.

My apartment is always 70F so I had a small infared bulb over the cool side to warm it up a bit... never really checked the cool side in a while.

He ate since the last regurg, so if he does it again, maybe the mouse is too big. I can't find live hoppers, and I don't really like feeding frozen.

If I'm reading that right, NO TAPE INSIDE TANK EVER! Tape and snakes just don't mix and they have a way of finding out how to get under it and get stuck. Too risky and often can be lethal. Please use hot glue instead and remove tape asap!

What about if I just put the sensors under a repti carpet, then put bedding on top the carpet? Or I can use hot glue like you said.

do you need a tank heater for the cool side? I have a larger one on warm side, Im thinking maybe the cool side is too hot since I have a blue light over it. And maybe the warm side is too warm, he's always in the cool side hide

Honestly, they'll find a way, maybe not immediately but there's no telling when and it's the kind of thing you really don't want to happen when you're away. Hot glue would be the safest thing, plus you can easily remove it as you please :)

I cant get the glue to hold the wire on the side of tank, so I will use tape for that. The sensor is glued to the bottom, good idea thanks man :)
changed his substrate to coconut husk, and he seems happier... always crawling around in it and being active. Didn't think a substrate could make that much of a difference.

Take the tape off if it's on the inside. Never ever have tape inside the enclosure. Nothing sticky. Not an option.

This is a picture of an injury caused by tape in a snake enclosure, please remove the tape from your tank immediately!

I'd say it's fine. Maybe if the wires are all in the same area of the tank then you could use something to bundle and tie them together, that way they would be more neat? Just some idea that I thought of just now lol.
