So I've Got a BRB!
Super happy to have joined the fourm, but even more excited to introduce my new BRB, Cecilia. I've been keeping snakes for a little while now(about seven years) and Ive neede- err "wanted" a BRB ever since I learned of them. So I figured I'd start a progression thread. I've dealt with BPs (amoung others) before, but this is my first boa. Unfortunately the pictures do her little justice, even outside after a shed. Just for fun, I put up a pic of her current setup. Eventually she'll have a custom melamine cage like the one I have for my bullsnake (more to come on that). I also want to ditch the light for a uth(although the light is getting the job done) Rn though I think the tub holds humidity very well, and a larger cage would just scare her. Also, I'm glad to take advice or other "pearls of wisdom" on BRB husbandry from anyone who has any to give.

Yeah ikr. I'm amazed every time I open her cage!

Congrats on getting the BRB. They are definitely beautiful animals, hard to beat when it comes to color.

I'd at least replace the bulb with a CHE so that it does not put out light at night (which could disturb her since she is nocturnal). Also, if you don't have a humidity gauge in the tub, I'd add one so that you can keep an eye on it. They need ~90% humidity as babies to help with shedding.
I've had my BRB about 2 years now and she is doing great. I keep her in a rack system for now, but have ordered an AP PVC cage for her. She does tend to hide a lot, so any additional cover you could add to your tub and /or branches to use to climb would probably be appreciated.
Right now I'm using reptichip / prococo as a substrate and it is dealing well with the humidity. I do provide an even more humid hide (use spag. moss) as well and a water bowl large enough for her to soak in if she chooses.
Good luck with your BRB, they are great snakes!

Thanks for the tips! I agree I should probably switch to a CHE, I've got the bulb because I happened to have it at the time and I'll be replacing it as soon as it burns I out. Supposedly red light dosent affect the their perception of night(and she is very active at night in spite of the light) but unless their eye is very different from ours it should only keeps their eyes dilated, they can still see the light. Better than a daylight though.
For substrate I have paper towels/spag. simply because with the high humidity she needs as a baby I don't want to promote mold.

Very nice!! Congrats and welcome!

Beautiful! I'm very jealous :D
Can I ask who you got her from? I've been leaning toward getting a BRB to call my own :)

Absolutely, I bought her from a local exotics shop in Colorado (Nature's box pet emporium) who I trust extensively. It seems like BRBs are becoming more and more common however, and I'd be willing to bet you could find one at your next reptile expo. This time of year is, I believe, "baby season"

Awesome, thanks! I'll keep an eye out the next time I'm at an expo. It'll be really difficult to get just the BRB, though [emoji39] The struggle is always real at an expo!

Here's another picture of her in the cold hide. Not feeling personable this morning, all well.:)

Just an FYI, Rainbows r Us has great rainbows at very reasonable prices..He has some pattern morphs, high red / orange, etc. I got my girl from an expo, but if I ever get a male to pair with her, it'll definitely be a rainbows r us high red or orange.

Actually that's just the floor of the hide, which is made from Lego. I made a Lego hide because I can get more creative with cage themes, it is and non-toxic. But the main reason is as she grows I can change the size easily. Right now a tiny little hide she can cuddle tightly into and feel secure in is perfect, but later, when she grows I can rebuild another with already existing parts.
Heres a picture
