Monty the snake yawning with Escamillo the cat (video)
Hey! My new wife has a pet cat and I've had my snake for 10 years so it's been a fun challenge getting them used to each other. This video proves it worked!! Enjoy :)

As a fellow cat lover, I think this is super cute and all BUT unfortunately, having cats within close promiximty of reptiles is very dangerous! Not just because cats are a predatory animal that could attack or hurt your snake, but because they produce a gram negative bacteria that's deadly to reptiles. This is in their saliva, so even if they don't rub against your snake, they still groom themselves so any contact is still a risk.
I'm sorry to rain on your parade :( I wish they could be interactive friends but the sad truth is it's dangerous.
Both snake and cat are super cute btw! I love black cats!

I was coming in to say th e same thing. I have to put my cats in another room if the snakes are out. We all want our animals to get along and be cute but they just cant. Sorry. And I have a black cat who looks a lot like that. Mine hates mu snake though...lol danger will noodle, danger!

Oh...man. That was stressful to watch. I have cats and I love them dearly, but I would never ever let them be in close contact (or even in the same room) with any of my reptiles. Cats are super curious and instinctual hunters and you just can't change that. There is really no reason at all to allow them to interact, or get used to one another. It is safest for both cat and snake to be kept entirely separate from each other.

Well, everyone has already said it.
But yeah, very very bad idea (I have a cat, dogs, snakes)
Not just because the cat could swat at or bite the snake, but also the snake could strike and even latch on. It happened to someone on this very forum and it ended up with damage to the cat, the snake AND the keeper !! The snake struck (which happens lightning fast, there is no way you could have stopped it) it got the cat in the gums. Cat freaked and fought, which ended up with damage to the keeper (badly infected cat bite and ER visit). The cats gums got infected and it needed a Vet visit, and I'm sure the snake didn't come out of this unharmed either.
Not to mention the stress to everyone involved.
It is a cute video , but really not a good idea..

Thanks Sunnieskys, I want both our pets to be healthy and safe. They don't really care about playing with each other so no need to continue the risk.

i'm guilty of cat + snake before too, but i CANNOT condone that behavior. with my pythons, since they're bigger, my cat is VERY interested in them in a way that i don't like; i NEVER let them near one another. with my Corn snake, she really didn't seem to mind; she came in when i was handling him and really didn't pay much attention. she's also old and really just wants to snuggle and nap. they have never been near each other since; it was a one-time occurrence.

Super cute video, but like everybody else says, it's not safe for the animals. It's just too risky with how quickly things can go from cute to nightmare.
