Half dwarf burm or boa?

Hi guys. Please help me to decide...
I have a 6x3x2,7 ft enclosure with an radiant heat panel. I could either have a half dwarf Burmese python or a Boa constrictor.
I would like to have a snake, that is inquisitive, active and is mellow/tame. So a snake, not just to watch but to handle without it being stressed too much too quick.

What do you think?

I've got both ... if you want 'inquisitive' then going off my experiences there's no question that you should choose a Half /Dwarf Burm !!

My Dwarf Hypo Burm is as alert and inquisitive as my Retics !!

He's also slow moving , calm and placid . Maxed out at just under 6'

Both Burms and boa constrictors are great snakes. I just don't know how big a half-dwarf burm gets. I lean towards the boa simply because of the size issue.

I would suggest a boa. Boaconstrictors are a super awesome "big" snake to own and care for. I love both of mine. They are always willing to eat it seems and have a very calm, inquisitive demeanor.

Suriname or Guyana BCC, or a 50% (or higher) super dwarf reticulated python.

You can also look into a Dumerils boa. They are REALLY laid back and don't get overly big.

If you were referring to Gina the suri, heres a better pic of her tail. This is her not sure what to think about Reptichips so she hung out on her shelf investigating a few lol. And she isn't even a year old. She turns 1 on Aug 22nd. Cant wait to see her in a year or 2 when she gets her adult colors :)

I love Boas ( I have two ) but the guy mentioned he wanted an inquisitive snake and none of the Boas I've had over the years could ever be described as inquisitive to be honest .

My Dwarf Hypo Burm is at the glass at the first sign of movement or vibration .. just like a Retic or a King snake wheras my Boas would let me go into the Viv move everything around , install LEDs and paint the inside pink and they wouldn't even stir :)

Actually his first post has actually described a Woma Python now I think about it :)

I beg to differ. All of my snakes are inquisitive at times, even the BP.

All my boas perk up when the doors are opened and they are quick to check out whats going on lol. Sometimes it's a pain especially when Im trying to clean up a huge turd from Rosey and she is either poking her head around the area seeing what I'm doing or trying to climb up my arm as I'm scooping the poop with a paper towel.

Every snake is going to have it's own personality.

Basically OPs question is kind of a loaded one like asking "apple or orange?" or "what's better, a burm or boa?". You will get different answers depending on what snake preference other have which could or could not be the same as the OPs. I mean if you asked me, i would say boa hands down but that is me and you can see from my sig, i am partial to boas lol. Now does that mean i would say dont get a burm? No. In fact i would like a caramel burm but to me, a boa is my first choice.

OP, you just need to look at different ones, read up on them, research them and figure out which one you like the most and also which one you can afford. Keeping a burm is going to be a lot more expensive than keeping a boa. My big boa costs me about $8-9 a month for food and i spot clean her once every 2-3 weeks. My super dwarf retic costs me $40 a month in food and i have to spot clean him every couple days. Not to mention i can get away with changing the substrate on the boas every 2 months or so. The retic i have to change his stuff out every month or so cause he poops and pisses so much. Then there is the caging. I was able to keep my boas in a 4x2 cage for about 5 years before getting them 6x3 cages. The retic lasted 9 months in a 4x2 cage before i had to get him a 6x3. And i dont expect the boas to outgrow a 6x3 but the retic might and he's a super dwarf. So take that into consideration as well. And just because something is a 'dwarf', doesnt mean it cant have the potential to still get fairly large.

Thank you for your help. The half dwarf burm will end up at 6 or 7 ft. A boa 7 to 8. For me a size around 7 will be great. A little bigger will be no problem. It is really difficult. I like both species....

Dude you're paying insane prices for feeders. Find a local meat rabbit breeder who will sell you culls. Or, even if you ordered six months worth online a $2 per pound from somewhere like Monster Feeders and paid shipping it would cost you less to feed those two.

Get both and stack the enclosures? ;)

Something else to consider is the burm will get big fairly fast, while the boa could take 10 years to get that big - and many male BI's top out smaller than that.

Good post although whilst I agree that all snakes CAN be inquisitive at times my point was that my Dwarf Burm is inquisitive 24/7 as is my Retic and the King snakes .

By stating he wants an inquisitive snake he presumably wants a snake that is 'switched on' so to speak ..

Preaching to choir!! I keep telling myself I'm going to buy a small chest freezer and guess what...i find a new snake to buy lol. I'll eventually get around to the freezer as there are really only 3 more snakes i want atm and no babies of those i've found yet lol.
