    DIY Rock Ledge Project!
Sneak peak of my next ball python enclosure project! Here is a suuuper rough base of the ledge I'm making for my noodle, which will be the hotspot since I'll be using a RHP. You can see the left side I’m still in the process of filling out to make stairs/slope leading up to it.

Top will be able to have substrate in it for burrowing fun and help distribute humidity to the higher areas of the cage, since mine will be 2′ high. Hoping I can finish this in time! And IF I have time to spare, it may also end up Zelda themed :P

More WIP! Just adding some final touches and polishing before it's ready for grout! Ended up having to use Apoxie sculpt to patch up some areas and last-minute detail changes.

Paint ready now! Tree roots/vines added where a decorative statue will be placed. For those familiar with the Zelda series, it's going to be the Goddess statue from Breath of The Wild :)
I made sure the gaps in the roots were too small for a sneaky ball python to try and pass through. Don't want him getting stuck!

So you shape the foam and then coat it in grout? Like standard grout used between ceramic tile? I have been thinking of taking my boring reptile basics hides and building on the outside of them to look like rock. The look you have here would be perfect just want to know exactly how to get that. Looks great by the way.

Yup! I used sanded grout for this one for the extra texture but you can also use unsanded. The one I specifically got was this one:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Mainly because it was cheaper than getting it locally in my case, but any tile grout will do.

The key is coating them in layers, roughly three. For your first layer you'd want to mix it with water with the consistency of thin cake batter and "paint" with a paintbrush so you can fill every hole and hard to reach places more easily since your mix is thinner. It may be hard for the grout to stay on the foam so you may need to do this twice after letting it dry. I usually do coats every 12 hours.

Your second and third coat batches will be the the same consistency of normal cake batter. I ended up doing 4 coats, patching up some gaps with thicker applications of grout with a palette knife. Then you can paint! Acryclic if safest and seems to have no problem sticking to grout.

Just make sure you find a good, non-toxic (ideally water proof) sealant to apply afterwards.

In Boston [emoji846] I got he tickets months ago! Super excited. It's called the symphony of the goddesses. Gonna have music from other Zelda games, but from what I've heard the majority of from breath of the wild.

Are you on etsy or anything? You'd definitely clean up!

Aaah if it were closer I'd totally go to that orchestra too! Sounds like it's going to be a blast! Enjoy it on my behalf! :D

I have an Etsy account but no shop yet! Definitely something I'm considering trying at some point once I figure out how to run one properly lol
