    Please help identify this boa
He's being sold locally. Owner says its a male, 4 years old and a little over 5ft long. He says the boa is a Hypo Jungle Het Albino... but I leave that to you guys the experts. What kind of boa is this?:

Hypo, yes. The albino would have to be proven out - or not, along with the line (Kahl or Sharp).

I'm not the best at picking out jungle but honestly I'm not seeing much in that boa, though sometimes it's not well expressed.

Thank you BCR for your reply. So not a jungle... but a hypo BCC or BCI? Will it get to be 9ft long? I want a boa that will not get bigger than 6 or 7ft. Thanks in advance.

Doesn't look Jungle to me as well. Regarding whether it is bci or bcc, if it is a morph it is going to be bci (or a mix) as there are no available bcc morphs. It shouldn't get very big, but you never know animal to animal.

I'm going to go see this boy... I know to look at a few things: I'll ask to handle the boa, he should be calm and have a good temperament. I'll check for stuck old skid from a bad shed, I'll looks at its nose and mouth for bubbles. He should be flicking his tongue. Anything I'm missing? Thanks

Looks like a hypo BCI to me. I dont see the jungle in it and like mentioned, het albino would have to be proven by breeding.

It's not a BCC There are no BCC morphs except i did hear there was a couple albino ones caught in the wild but they didnt breed or something.

You cant miss a BCC. This is my Pokigron suriname and you can easily see she is a BCC.

A hypo male BCI shouldn't get much bigger than 7 feet and if he does it will take many more years.

Agreed with the others, definitely a hypo. I'd want to see the parents and litter pics to say if it's a jungle or not. If it IS a jungle, it's a very low expression and personally I'm not really seeing it. However hypo really screws with patterns so it may be possible (he isn't a hypo jungle I would by for jungle breeding purposes though). When people don't say what strain of albino 90%ish of the time and general rule is that it's Kahl strain.

I also usually check the vent and belly, should be no discolorations.
    Good luck!

I see the possibility of a super hypo, due to the small bow ties and not a lot of black, but it would have to be proven. I don't see jungle.

    Hypo BI aka BCI
Albino has to be proven & like the others, I do not see jungle.

Thank you very much everyone. I wanted to know for sure, not that it makes a difference...I will still buy him if he's healthy, but that way if someone asks me what kind of snake it is I will tell them accurately: "Hypo Boa Constrictor Imperator, country unknown."

It will be a 30 minute drive coming home, any tips on transporting him? Thanks again.

I agree with all above, Hypo, no clear evidence of jungle, only breeding and/or proof of parentage will prove albino. I love your attitude of just wanting a healthy animal, but dont let the guy screw you on the price by claiming false genetics. For transporting him, a plastic tote that is small enough for him to feel secure but not so small that he's curled into a ball, paper towels on the bottom, a sheet or something over it if its transparent. If its a 1/2 hour ride i wouldn't worry too much about temperature, you're going to be handling him for longer periods than that at room temp anyway; as with most things, avoid extremes. Ventilation is usually a good thing, but you dont need to turn the box into a colander, and someone tell me if i'm a horrible crazy person, but tote boxes are not exactly air-tight and i dont think a snake is going to use up the entire volume of air in there in 30 minutes...just sayin', (but ideally a few air holes are probably the way to go)

Also, remember price on him would be lower ... $75 - $125 (at least in my area.) When not buying directly from a breeder, you are only guaranteed what you can visually see.

Thanks for the advice on transporting him. The guy only wants $150 for the boa, so it makes me think he was lied to...someone Sold him the snake telling him it was a jungle? And he's just repeating a lie without knowing. He's definitely the most reasonable... others are asking $250 for their adult red tails.
We'll see, I won't be able to go until Monday.

For transporting snakes I like to put them in a bag, and then put the bag into a secure tub. That ensures no escapes.

This is just my opinion, but i think $150 is very reasonable for an adult hypo. A baby hypo will fetch $100 all day long, and this one has 4 years worth of food and care invested in him. As long as you dont detect andy red flags, i say go for it and be glad you got a good deal. Good luck on Monday!

I agree, for as pretty as he is, $150 is reasonable. If he proves out to be het albino, you have done very well.

Thanks guys and gal! Sorry for the late response, been at work all day...just walked in.
If everything goes well, he'll be coming home with me Monday and I was thinking...then what? He goes into his new home and leave him undisturbed for 5 days of so? Except for checking on him and giving him fresh water. Then I could handle him so he gets used to me?

yeah, 5 to 7 days should be fine if all else is well. I guess they say longer is better, but i know by 5 days i'm going nuts. Just be sure your temps and humidity are totally dialed in before you get him in there, his acclimation period will not be very effective if you are constantly in and out of his enclosure to make adjustments and such.

    No dice!
Just an update. The guy stopped texting me yesterday afternoon, I wanted to touch bases with him and to agree on a time I was going to stop by and he went off the radar. I texted him all day today and no response. Oh well, my search continues for my snake. I might just order online... any good and reputable sites to buy snakes from?
    Thanks

    Ricky.
