Is that like the reptichips I have seen? The crushed coconut shells?

herptopia is coconut husks gone through three levels of sorting. Dust free and holds the moisture like no ones business. Great stuff.

One tip I learned if you have a fan in the room the snakes are in make sure you turn it off, fans push the humidity right out

They definitely have a huge impact on humidity. However, some air circulation is important. Finding the right balance of air circulation and humidity control isn't always easy outside of a rack system, depending on your climate.

Re: Tips to get humidity up
this may help I'm not sure its more of a question to your question than a answer. I have a glass tank with a screened in top also with a blanket covering about 3/4 of the top I have a heat mat and a red nocturnal heat bulb on a thermostat. with a large bowl of water on the cool side. my tank is a 40 gallon and my humidity stays at 59-62% all the time. am I just lucky or is there something that I'm doing right.....
Re: Tips to get humidity up
Put saran wrap over the mesh lid, leave enough for air flow so the hair doesn't go stagnant but still to keep the humidity in

I completly understand that lol just thought reassurance that a similar tank set up is working my make him feel better about the snakes movement. I live in north Texas so humidity is never a problem her which sucks because I work out doors but great for my snakes lol
