Re: leo baby pics
OMG! Those are too dang cute! I really like the one on the left in the top picture. The third pic, that face is priceless. I hope to one day get into bredding. I'd like to get a real nice blizard male to be the daddy though. Of course I've got time. My girls are only 5 months old. Great pictures.

Re: leo baby pics
thanks! they all still have a ways to go before they look like they will as adults but they are waaay cute right now. the one in the third pic is pretending to be all big and tough so it can scare me away. :)

Re: leo baby pics
well, make it 13 more eggs still incubating. i think all but one girl are finished laying and this may have been her last clutch. i'm happy no matter what though because they cranked out WAY more eggs than i expected from them in their first year. :)

Re: leo baby pics
Congrats!! That's great! It looks like you are in gecko heaven. :D

Re: leo baby pics
Awww so darn cute! One of these days I'm going to have one of those.
What a great first breeding year for you.

Re: leo baby pics
thanks all! i love it when they are very first hatched because it looks like they have little white angels on their heads. :floating: a lot of the older ones still have it but it is fading and getting blurry as they grow into their adult coloration. still cute though. :)

Re: leo baby pics
What beautiful babies! Good luck with the rest of the eggs! :D
-
Re: leo baby pics
what morph is the one on the top left i love it!!!!!!!
-
Re: leo baby pics
thanks. :) they are all shtct's--super hypo tangerine carrot tails. a lot the black goes away as they grow, the goal being for all of it to go away so they will look like the dad. since the moms all have black spots though some of the babies will more than likely retain some of the spotting as well.

I might pick up my first pair this weekend at a show....We'll see! I am psyched to get a couple and work with them a bit
-
Re: leo baby pics
they are really fun. really personable too if they have been handled or if you work with them a little. and the babies are way too cute and squeaky. :)
-
Re: leo baby pics
Cant wait! Ill let you know how it goes...Do they breed all year long?
-
Re: leo baby pics
no, but females lay anywhere from 2-8 clutches or so per year, so you get a lot of babies from each female. they only have to mate once and they are set for the season. :) generally you put a male in with your females early in the year--anywhere from january on really--and once they have bred you remove the male. some people leave the male in with the females year round because the females can only lay so many eggs anyhow, but i kinda think it best to let him and them have a break and let the females focus on eating and staying fat for egg laying.

So how far apart are those clutches laid? Very interesting for sure. And they lay about 1-3 eggs per clutch?
-
Re: leo baby pics
they lay 2 eggs per clutch, sometimes just 1 egg if is their very first clutch or two. they lay approximately once every 3 weeks. they are really quite prolific as far as geckos go--i started with 1.3 earlier this year and i now have about 15 babies plus another 10+ eggs incubating.

That is awesome! Do you find that you have a hard time selling them?
-
Re: leo baby pics
well, i haven't marketed them yet at all--since this was my first go at it i wanted to hold them all for a few months to see how they turned out and learn to tell what to look for in holdbacks without waiting that long. now that that is accomplished i am actually launching my web site next week so we shall see. :) but in the meantime i am working on what may turn out to be a very nice trade deal for some rhac geckos, so either way i'm happy.

Re: leo baby pics
So I took the plunge today and bought a couple leos. Too young to sex most likely. Are they considered normals?

Re: leo baby pics
One's going to be a patternless :) Poor little guy, has part of a regenerated tail. The other, I really don't know. Normal or high yellow is my guess *shrug*
Pretty babies nonetheless. I used to have a SHCT female who was about as yellow as a sunflower, and also a patternless male. They were both so funny. The female is with Kelli Hammack of HISS right now, being bred to a Mack Snow male ;)

Re: leo baby pics
Hey Mlededee, are you gonna be selling them? How old are they? If you are gonna sell them plz PM me and I might buy one or two..
They are so adorable, I LOVE baby leos..*grins* They look like they are gonna be nice looking when older, good job!
-
Re: leo baby pics
If babies get a small section of their tail bitten off, its not a big deal and actually looks quite normal as an adult, just a little short. Nice patternless btw!
-
Re: leo baby pics
So far so good with them. The skinny one ate 3 mealworms in front of me so I know he is eating. The patternless has not eaten in front of me but ill keep monitoring it.
-
Re: leo baby pics
very nice jamie! the patternless one is nice. it will be much easier to tell exactly what the other one is as it gets older. some of my babies won't eat in front of me at first, but i count the mealies that i put in their dish so i will know how many they have eaten.
-
Re: leo baby pics
So I have seen the skinnier one eat 3 mealworms and a cricket since they arrived. I havent seen the patternless eat at all. Is this unusual? Their crap is also pretty foul smelling and I wasnt sure if that is normal.
-
Re: leo baby pics
Bleh. I would think not. Get a fecal sample done on both of them and see what they have. They may both have a belly full of worms... Ick.
About the patty baby not eating, I would give him another day or two to settle in. Are they separated? Maybe he is stressed by the other sibling and doesn't want to eat. Try covering the sides of the tank with some dark construction paper. Disabling the crickets(taking off back legs) will help too.
Hope that helps a bit.

Re: leo baby pics
worms are incredibly common in leopard geckos. i have a patternless female and when i got her she was a bit thin and her poop smelled different and way worse than that of my others. she had worms. :( it is easy enough to treat though once you get them to a vet.
definitely separate the two of them for now at least. not eating could possibly be a side effect of worms too--my girl didn't eat much at all until she was treated. some of my babies and younger leos are still shy though and they usually won't eat in front of me so i just have to count the worms and crickets they get to know how much they are eating.
-
Re: leo baby pics
So I separated the two of them. The non patternless one I have seen eat a couple of times and he appears to be pooping regularly. The patternless I have not seen eat or poop. Neither seems to have a ton of interest in food. Worms?

Re: leo baby pics
