Guess what...
Maja laid her clutch. All that waiting and worrying !! She also seemed to run "late" for a couple of days, but I could have been off with my calculations.
Here are a few pics.
Now the wait begins :)
Maja is a Bumblebee and the proud father is a Super Blast.

btw. I know I've been "absent" for a while. My summers (starting early and running late) are always super busy with sets of family visiting from overseas and staying weeks at a time. On top of that there are other personal issues I have to deal with this year. Barely any time at all for internet the last few weeks. I have a bit of a break company wise, though, and will try to pop in more often...

Congrats!!!! :gj:
Hope all is well. I think I can speak for a lot of us and say you're missed around here!

Thank you !! Means a lot, hearing that made my day :)

I can't help but feel a little guilty for taking the eggs away from her.
I cleaned her up well and also cleaned/sanitized the tub and water dish thoroughly to make sure there is no scent of "eggs" left on her or her enclosure. But she still seems out of sorts. At first she was all over her tub looking for the eggs. Now she is "calmer" and yesterday she drank a lot. But she will "wrap" around a bit of the substrate (clean/fresh of course) and she is still jumpy.
When do you all attempt to feed a female after removing eggs? Days? A week? She is so...empty. And skinny. Can't wait for her to get a good feeding and get her condition back. ;)

Re: Guess what...
Congratulations on your clutch....
Nice to see you're doing well, busy but well...of course we miss your insightful posts. Enjoy time with your family and take care of yourself....we'll be here when you have time :-)
-
Awesome, how exciting! Nice to have you mosey on back this way. 😊
-
I don't know if this is helpful or not, but one of my girls laid on the seventh, and ate a medium rat a week later. She searched for a couple of days and then seemed to settle back into her normal routine. She has eaten another rat and shed since then. I don't know if this is typical or not, but this is only my second clutch.
-
Congrats on the clutch! My gal always eats a few days after laying. She tends to be *hungry*!!!
-
Awesome clutch Zina!!! Nice to see you back on the forums.
-
Thank you all, and thanks for letting me know how your females did after laying their clutches. That was definitely helpful.
I will wait another couple of days and then attempt to feed her.
As is, she has stopped being restless and now just "chills" :)
I have 2 more females that "might" lay eggs. Pretty sure I caught one ovulating, and the other may be near ovulation.
This was Lestada during what I think was ovulation (24 May). It was even more apparent in person then in the pictures..

That looks like an ovulation to me! Congrats!

Re: Guess what...
Congrats on the eggs Zina. I'm sure you'll produce some awesome clutches. Enjoy your family and be well. It's great to see you back on the forum. :)

I always try to feed FT the week after. 50% will eat. If they do not eat on week 2, I break the rules and feed outside their tub. I have a large tote that I use for this purpose. I will leave them in there with the tote covered while I feed everyone else so they really smell rat then feed them last. Most everyone is eating by this point. For the holdouts live is required. Once they begin eating again they are usually pigs and will eat anything that comes their way. For the females that are super skinny I will put them on a four day schedule until they don't look anorexic.
BTW, glad you are back.

Re: Guess what...
Your eggs still incubating?
-
Getting close now !!!
Clutch was actually laid on Jun 22 second so day 60 would be Monday, August 21st.
Same day than the solar eclipse :)
Eggs have started to collapse a bit 2 days ago, but not very much yet. Sometimes I stare at them for a while and I swear I see a little "twitch".
Since I waited so long to breed after buying these "morphs" I know they aren't that exciting anymore, but its still very exciting for me just because its the first "planned" clutch and from my own animals.
The only other clutch I took care off was a surprise from a rescue snake way back.
So..how do you all keep from staring at the eggs every chance ? Haha...
I'm not going to cut to see what's in there. If anything I'll wait until the first pip or day 60. But the wait is getting to me ;)
After those eggs I still have the ones from the Pastel Lesser that should pip around Sept. 11th.
And still waiting on one clutch to be laid from the Pastel Enchi, around Sept. 6th or so. She is running late ;)

Re: Guess what...
Congrats! I missed this completely. You should be seeing pips any day now!

I know :)
I should just put a chair and a bottle of beer in front of the incubator. I can stare into it all day long, LOL !!! I will probably get a heart attack once something actually happens.
I know, I know. Its not that special..haha. And I have raised one clutch before.
But this is different. This is from snakes I have raised since they've been itty bitty!
:)

It's always cool when you raise them up from hatchlings to their first clutch :gj:
-
and we have takeoff !!!
First little head poking out today :)
Looks like it may be a Super Pastel ? Its something more then a pastel, I think. (Breeding is Bumblebee + Super Blast)
I'm terrified of causing twisted umbilicus when messing around with the eggs to much, so should I cut slits into the rest of them now, or give it a bit more time, like until this one is out and safe?
A very blurry pic...

Re: Guess what...
I've never cut and so far I have only ever lost one baby to a twisted umbilicus. If everything hasn't pipped within 24 to 30 hours of the first one, then you may want to cut. Other than that, the less disturbance, the better is my philosophy. Best of luck.
-
Congrats, Zina! I can't wait to see them! Glad to see you back on, by the way! :)

Re: Guess what...
Congrats Zina! How exciting to have your babies grow up to produce their own babies! I have missed you around here!

Aw, thank you so much :)
Its nice to know someone missed me ;) Its about to get very busy around here again in a week, and this summer was just something I'd rather put behind me sooner then later, but hopefully things will return somewhat to normal before to long.
We now have 4 little heads poking out! Last evening #2 showed up. As of this morning it was still just those 2 heads and the first one showed not desire to leave the egg yet, LOL. Since its been 24 hours since the first pip I carefully cut small slits into all eggs. I didn't take the time to "peek", just quick slits and back into the incubator. Didn't want to stress the first two out by taking to long about this.
Shortly thereafter we have 2 more heads. The incubator is in a dark room and I have noticed that if I check on them with a red light they do not react to it at all :)
I just wonder when #1 thinks its time to leave the nest, so to speak ;)
-
Well. 5 have pipped since yesterday and this morning. Last 2 are working on it right now.
NONE have left the eggs. LOL
Not even the one that pipped first.
Guess they are comfy ;) I'm leaving them be, none look stressed, they are just chilling. Red light works great for viewing, they don't even react to it and I can watch them. One keeps pushing another one back into the egg by resting his/hear head on the other one's opening...
They yawn a lot and they are constantly trying to rub their noses on everything! They are so fun to watch.
I will post pictures if any of them ever decide to leave the eggs..
-
Those lazy bums! Tell them we're waiting on pictures!
-
ONE finally got out. Isn't even the first one that pipped. That one is still lounging around half in and half out..lol.
So here is little Bumble Bee. MP-1 (maja-phoenix)
Haven't sexed it yet, but weighs 64 gr..
Wrinkly little thing, can't wait for the first shed ;) As sweet and un-afraid as Mama is..
http://photos.imageevent.com/morgens...arge/mp1-3.jpg
http://photos.imageevent.com/morgens...size/mp1-2.jpg
All the others have pipped and are just "hanging around"..
well...photos aren't showing up. I tried from 2 different photo hosting sites, both work. Not sure what is going on..

Re: Guess what...
what the heck ?
I posted the pics straight from tapatalk. So the problem must be with this site...
Ok, here is a link to the album.
Lets do it that way then, haha

If you click on the pics, it will enlarge them!

Ok, pics seem to work again, thanks Admins :)
So here is #2 of the little ones
Super Pastel
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4377/...bbfa7722_c.jpg
the other 5 show no inclination to leave the eggs, LOL
at least 2 more Super Pastels, 2 Super Blasts (or more, can't tell) and not sure on that last one yet.
I had no idea they sit THAT long in the eggs. Plus that they somewhat interact with one another. Yup, and like to push each other into the egg and then rest on that opening :O
Red light is the best, I can sit there and watch them for hours, LOL
-
Awesome!!! Congrats Zina!! Beautiful first baby!!
-
AAAAAAND...
#3 is out !!
Anther Super Pastel with super busy pattern !! Of course the lighting isn't great right now, much prettier in person ;)
I also can't wait for them to shed :)

http://photos.imageevent.com/morgens...rge/mp-3-2.jpg
http://photos.imageevent.com/morgens...rge/mp-3-1.jpg
That one weighs 66 gr.
So far we have anything between 64 and 74 gr. Not bad ;)

Re: Guess what...

Well, the Bumble Bee is actually a Killer Bee. I've poured over pictures and talked to a few breeders. Right out of the egg I thought the grayish looking black was due to the drying egg white on it, but its still lighter now and the head pattern is very reduced and clean.
Anyone agree ? Disagree? With this breeding both would have been possible.

Thank you ;)
Technically, the "Dad" is a Killer Blast.
I call him Super Blast, because that's what they used to call them when I bought him. Now I hear people calling them either name.
He is a Super Pastel Pinstripe..
Perhaps I should call him Killer Blast after all. It does sound more wicked, doesn't it :D

Re: Guess what...
Way to go zina! Really spectacular.

Congrats Zina!
i remember us only being a couple weeks apart in the breeding process way back when we were trying to figure out if our females were ovulating lol. I got so caught up in mine I forgot to check up on how yours were doing. Looks like we both did pretty good for our first times :D I love all your killers! The odds were. Over to you than they were to me. I need to wait till they all shed but I'm not sure if I got any killers, I think I may of only got 3 pastel combos which seems so unlikely considering both parents had the pastel gene but I guess you never know what your going to get, I'm just happy they all came out alive and healthy :) Which it looks like yours did too, great job!
