Urgent help needed. ASAP. Please read!
So, I am sure like most of you, we are the snake family, so anything that comes up in the neighborhood we get a call. Neighbor caught a garter in a glue trap in his garage. We got it off the trap ok, put it in a small habitat in our garage but can't get the glue residue off of the little guy. I put him on gravel so things wouldn't stick so bad to him. How do I get the Residue off of him? He is in deep blue. Do I wait until he sheds out and hope he gets it all off?

I would just wait and hope for a good shed.
91% rubbing alcohol will break down the glue but may also dry the skin too much.

    Thanks
Was thinking the same thing. Plus I don't know if that would harm the snake worse with the fumes. I figure it has to shed in a few days then set it free

Let it shed, let it go.

Thats the plan. If I let it go now it would be covered in everything it touched. Leaving it on rocks so it can shed then going to set the guy free. He seems do be doing ok, but I hate that I can't just get the crap off of him.

Vegetable or olive oil. Mineral oil would also work but vegetable oil or olive oil would be safer. He might run into trouble while trying to shed covered in residual glue, so using the oil would be better. Poor little dude.

Another vote for olive oil or veggie oil. It works to soften the glue and won't hurt the snake.

    Tried it
Tried the veg oil, as it was the only safe thing I could find online I thought might work. Really didn't do much to help. Made him a little less sticky, but I think it was more me rubbing that anything else.

Canola oil helps! My oldest female got caught in a mouse trap my boyfriends mom had and the oil helped a lot problem then was shewas super slippery, if it survives to shed it will shed it all off

    Lol
That wasn't me that said I let it go, but I did right after it shed. It got most of its shed off and wasn't sticky anymore so free it went. If I wouldn't have taken it in it would have surely died as everything was sticking to it. Maybe it would have helped it with leaves and grass stuck to it. It would have been like a snake ghillie suite. Could have been a great hunter.

I'm glad you were able to help get the shed off and were able to set it free. You did a great thing.
