Why Do People Like Pandas?

it seems that everyone loves the poster child of exotic and endangered animals - the Pandas. but why?

u never hear anyone calling a Panda ugly, that they hated it and wished they would go extinct. but it's always Panda's are cute and adorable and let's save the Pandas! so why do peeps feel this way about them? is it their colors and patterns? their babies? their derpiness? their endangered status and vulnerability? the fact that all they do is eat bamboo and yet they're big tubs of jello covered in fur?

so many peeps love the Panda's that other species are named after them and they're equally coveted. The Panda Ball Python, for example. i also heard a Panda Retic is still in the works.

So panda's coem in many shapes and forms. Why do u like Panda's? Or do u not like Panda's? Oh please tell. :)

People like pandas because they have big heads and what appear to be big eyes. Attributes of a human baby. It is hardwired in people to think these attributes are cute. You can put a big head on anything and someone will say it is cute. It's why cartoon characters have big heads.

I don't particularly like or dislike pandas. I don't really think they're cute.

I don't particularly find them cute either - I think they should be protected, like all endangered species, but cute...not really.

Interesting. I find pandas cute, including the fake pandas- the red panda. But, I find human babies quite scary.

I think you'd be surprised to find beneath that fur and fat is quite a bit of muscle. Enough to enable such heavy animals to be excellent climbers. With that being said, pandas are extremely cute.

I don't care about pandas. What a useless animal. Carnivores but they eat veggies so are forced to eat nonstop just to survive. Terrible at reproducing and life in general. I see these people dressed up in panda suits bottlefeeding a bear that will probably never leave captivity and wonder how many lives could have been saved instead. Even keeping one panda in a zoo costs several million each year. I just don't feel very strongly about keeping large animals like that around if there's no chance of a wild life for the species. There's loads of animals going extinct on the all the time but no one cares unless they are big and fuzzy wuzzy.

I think they can be pretty cute but are a touch overrated. I don't have any real strong opinions about them other than "yes cute, yes save them too", but I sorta wish more attention was given to endangered predator animals. The tigers! D:

Pandas are cute, cause they are fluffy.:)

I like them because they are good at martial arts.

Exactly - they're just visually appealing .

I think it is because they are cute and cuddly that they make for a good face of conservation. In my opinion I find the black on white very visually striking, but I also appreciate their uniqueness.

It seems a little ironic to me that snake keepers would try to degrade the importance of a living being. Conservation relies on preserving the entire ecosystem, not just the creatures we deem worthy.

it's funny that this topic popped up when school just ended because next year is my sophomore year in high school and my precalculus c and calculus a teacher is obsessed with pandas. he apparently made a student walk out for insulting pandas xD

Well to be fair I don't know of many people that would just randomly say they "hate" or "want them to go extinct" about any animal...

Yeah I feel very similarly. Not that I necessarily think we should kill off all pandas or whatever but they're an evolutionary dead-end. I kind of wish we'd redirect all the effort and money that goes into saving pandas to species that are going extinct because of US, as opposed a species that's going extinct because it fails at being a viable species.
