Blue eyed Lucy may or may not have a problem
Ok, I'm hoping someone can help me with my BEL.
About 3 weeks back I cleaned out everything in her terrarium.
I used reptibark because it just looks nicer for her display.
I can't be certain but shortly after doing that I noticed some red'ish type areas along parts of her body. And it's all only on the bottom and sides (no red areas on her top-side). The photos I'm including were taken just after she ate (frozen-thawed).
Has anyone ever noticed this with their animals?
Is this caused by new substrate? As in did the substrate sort of dye her body as the new substrate started getting moisture?
I don't think it has anything to do with her food. Doesn't really appear to be blood.
Her behaviour and demeanor hasn't changed.....
Any ideas?

I was afraidof that. I'm on an iPad and can't figure out how to insert a photo. The button says to insert URL. I don't know what that is. The photo is in the photo library, not a website...

Are you using Tapatalk or the website? Try downloading Tapatalk (idk if its on iPads but I have it on my Samsung) there's a page on the website on how to set it up and its so oo oo much easier to use

had the same situation at work, our lightest BP Candy also gotten redish marks on the belly and on the sides, we were using exo terra forest bark at the time when she got it, looks the same as repti bark if its bigger pieces about 1-2cm. On the other hand my snake at home (pastel) was on that substrate an he was totaly fine. Maybe some snakes can be a bit more sensitive. . .

I'm hoping this is the case and it just fades away shortly.
I just put some exo-forest moss in the enclosure to keep more humidity so hopefully it will correct itself.

I take it that it did fade away right?

Yes, it was all good as soon as we changed the bedding to soft aspen, not a spot on her now.

I was REALLY hoping you'd say it was just the substrate and it'd just fade. Thank you so much. It was kinda freaking me out!

Don't want to freak you out but you should definitely be sure that the redish thing on your bp is not a burn from the UTH. Are you using belly heat source or a lamp? Thermostat controlled?

Re: Blue eyed Lucy may or may not have a problem
In my experience with dealing with scale rot, burns and trauma; that's not really what I'm seeing. It looks to me either like dye transfer or a skin reaction to the substrate. With that said you should try getting the animal off of the eco-sub and onto paper towel. I saw you mention something about adding Moss to up the humidity but I strongly recommend against it. If by some chance it is mild scale rot, or a bacterial infection or some other skin issue you run the risk of exasperating the issue. Keep it on paper towel, keep it dry and keep an eye on it. If it starts to get better then you can move it to aspen or one of the drier substrates but unless it's in shed I recommend against high humidity for reptiles showing skin issues.
Just my 0.02 from 10 years of keeping -best of luck.

I use thermostat UTH but it's set at a very low level. It typically registers 80-82F. On the opposite side of the terrarium I use overhead heat that registers 88-90F.
The marking doesn't really seem like she feels any distress at all when I rub the area.
And she actually is at the beginning of her shed cycle.

Re: Blue eyed Lucy may or may not have a problem
Under tank heater and a lamp are both on thermostat?
Bp can bury herself under that substrat directly on the heater and earn a burn, so you have to measure the temps under substrate.
Do you have above terarium lid lamp?
I dont know how your complete set up looks lije, usually we need to know what is the exact set up to come to the possible conclusion.
Ive seen this cases turning out to be a burn or a sensitivity to a substrate or in shedding process some snakes get a pink belly which is normal.
If your set up is fine, than it must be nothing to worry about.

Re: Blue eyed Lucy may or may not have a problem
Well, just thought I'd follow up for everyone. Have really appreciated all of you.
The splotching has almost entirely faded at this point so I'm pretty sure it's just moisture combined with new reptibark. Which I still find annoying that there must be a dye added to it in production.
