Tank Setup, just showing off my new Baby. Any feedback?
https://ball-pythons.net/gallery/fil...7/img_2205.jpgJust want to get some input on his set up! Really excited about how it came out! Anubis stands at 2-3 months old weighing at 80g and 21 inches. Columbian Red Tail Boa.

I'm not a big fan of the half log hides though. I prefer more secure hides for my critters. Other than that it looks great to me Aerries. Let's see the current occupant. :snake:

    Overall it looks great!

The only thing I would suggest it changing the position of the half log. I know you want to see your snake but those don't offer much of a secure feeling and leaving it with one side open to the world is not just a window for you but one for it, which it doesn't want.

I would move it to a side or stuff some moss in it to block its view to the outside.

Also, if you're running a uth make sure the substrate is no more than a 1/4 inch thick on top of it. That and have it on a tstat. If you're just using over head heat you appear to be setup well.

I actually am using a heat lamp, I'm not crazy about using UTH, his basking side is 90 and overall humidity is at 60% cool side is at 78-80...yea I'm not a fan of the half log, only used it for a smaller hide plus it dosnt go with the rest of the decor lol, but he's actually found a few comfy spots he likes behind/to the right of the hide on the right, and a high spot hide on the left tower. I keep forgetting that they're not like BPs from what I've been Seeing out of Anubis, he's still in the open but comfortable. As my BP won't come out of his cave lol.

    Looks great!
I personally would ditch or move the half log as well.
Are you regulating your heat lamp?

I think it looks fantastic..would either use paper or something to cover the end of the half log or re arrange it..love the skull lol

I may get a boa next and just copy this style lol

There's just less difference in temps between the top and bottom of the substrate, so it's better to manage what temps your snake is getting at.

I think everyone's covered most things tbh ..

As mentioned already those log hides aren't really fit for purpose as they are just not gonna feel secure in a hide with openings at each end .. imagine if it was you camping in a tent with two openings :)

If it's big enough and you're set on keeping it , I'd put it in a corner and use the glass as a block for one of the holes ... it will also look better anyways as you're not supposed to put /place ANYTHING exactly in the middle of a tank / Viv / photos / painting .. ..

You can run it deeper but i wouldnt go over 1/2". I use aspen so what i do is make the cool side a little deeper and the warm side with the flexwatt a little thinner. The snakes will push the substrate aside if they want more heat. Key is to always run a t-stat. Otherwise running too deep of substrate can cause the heat tape to overheat and possibly melt something.

I like the set up except you need to get the humidity to around 70% and like others have said, ditch the half log. Once the snake poops or pisses on it, it's done. If you want something more natural for a hide, check out any of the ceramic decorations they have at pet shops. Just be sure you avoid any hides with a closed off circle. Boas can get stuck in them if they try and double back on themselves and then you will have problems. Always go with a half moon or open circle. If you dont care about the more sterile look, you can get nice black ABS hides from Reptile Basics. All of my small snakes like them and the big ones get dish tubs i flip over and cut a half moon door in. I do have RB jumbo hides which are constructed awesome but require a large cage for them. I'll be using them in my T25s.

And i personally prefer belly heat over top heat. All my cage stacks run Flexwatt being controlled by a Herpstat 6.
