    Hide caves
So I'm wondering about heating the caves you can get with the top and bottom. How do you get the belly heat there if the bottom of the hide is blocking it?

Its likely you're using fish tank hides if they have bottoms which aren't really good for your snakes because of the bottom. Ideally, you want hides that lift off your ball and don't allow him/her to cling to the inside.

I have never seen those, but they look pretty cool. The ramped hole is a great entrance point and the hide provides tons of security. You could go a bit bigger when choosing size and let your snake grow into it, just use moss or something inside to make it more secure. It still makes it easy to find your snake and take him/her out too.

Those are best used for humid hides. Put some cypress mulch, eco earth, spaghnum moss, etc. in it and the snakes will love it.

Warm-side hides over a UTH should have an open-bottom design so the heat can get into them easily.

How would you heat it with a uth since its got that bottom? It's relatively new from zilla. And it actually covers the light from getting in with it closed.

I figured. Would've just loved to use it for a hot hide though.

That looks right up my ally! Going to look into getting one after I set up the new enclosure.

    Will do!

I have the RBI small hide that is 5.5in x 4in but my ball likes to push out and pop it up. She's only about 180g maybe 20in in length. The medium plastic hides seem like they are way to big for her at 10x7in. I figured this rock lair would be a perfect compromise. I almost ordered one the exo-terra 2pc caves until this thread.

I used that rock lair in my tank on the "hot side" and my bp seemed to like it. Internal temps were 85-90. I switched to basic black plastic now that I'm in Animal Plastics enclosures and that seems to be working fine. Now I'm stuck with a rock lair I'm not going to use LOL

Well now you need another noodle to fill it!

I actually saw your thread, and that you mentioned it. About big was your ball when it was using it?

Why did you stop using it when you switched to an AP enclosure? Asking because mine is due to arrive tomorrow and was interested in the rock lair. Also you have people interested in them on this thread. You could sell it if you didn't want it.

Can't speak for BR8080 but I know for me I quickly reached a point were function & efficiency (handling, cleaning, etc.) become more important than vivarium aesthetics or a natural look. Those hides look nice, I have a similar one plus an exo-terra medium snake cave (my BP never used) but they are more difficult to extract a snake from and more difficult to clean. They do make a nice humidity hide though...

She used it from 24" to 30" and probably would still be able to fit.

Honestly, I wanted to use it, but the black hides look good in the black enclosures. You should do what you want, don't pass up on using just because I decided not to. It was purely an aesthetic and functionality decision for me. I'm sure they would look great and work well, maybe I'll try it LOL

I thought about selling the duplicate gear because I has 2 tanks set up; UTH, Inkbird stat, dome light, and hides but figure shipping is difficult to guess and quote when someone is asking a price...

My bp seemed to really like that snake cave - I had her in the small until she couldn't fit so I got the large and she shared that and the rock lair equally. I liked them because it was easy to see if they peed or pooped in it. Now I use the Herptopia and that stuff is like pee/poop magnet - hard to find but keep the smell away - it's great stuff.

For me I could see it being a pain if you had a side opening cage vs the screen top tanks.

Well bad news. I was supposed to get the medium rock lair last Saturday. The package started with ups and then switched to usps. I work nights (7:30pm-4am). Took a nap Saturday around noon, woke up around 5pm and had an email saying it was delivered/panel locker as expected. Head down to the mailbox building and had a key in my little mailbox for the big packages. So I walk over to a-2 box and freeze........ There's already a key in the lock and its open!! No package in there. Usps won't do anything so I have ordered another one and we will try this again.

Here's some pics with the rock lair. She is 210g and maybe 20-22in long, just to give you guys an idea for the medium size. I really like but now it really makes my 10gal tank look small. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...7adfdf93b3.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...4d8dfeb3e3.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...ec39a55470.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...769ec6b286.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...289662a686.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...7b94943fc6.jpg
