    Derma Ball
Just wondering if anyone else had seen this post and what everyone thought about it.

    http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/pp_c...&cat=10&page=1

Personally, after Hamburg, I think he got a little full of himself. But that's my opinion.

 After Hamburg? :) Okay, I won't go there.

My personal feelings about the Derma Ball aside, I feel he is jumping the gun quite a bit to sell these as Hets before he proves them out. If someone plunks down $30K and these don't prove out, he's going to have some 'splainin to do.

Along that same note, I get irritated when I see people try to sell 2002 50% or 66% possible Het anything. Yes, they happened to raise that animal up to breeding size and all of a sudden decide to sell it as a possible het without trying to breed it? I'm sure it has happened where someone does that, but more often than not I'm sure the animal proved to be a normal and they are still trying to pass it off as a poss. het. Okay, I'll stop ranting.

I'm not even sure what I'm looking at? What in the world? That poor thing is a ball python? Someone would actually want to and purposely try to breed this?

I don't know what to think about this, I really don't.

The Northern Berks Reptile Show, in Hamburg, PA. Were you there? Wendy and I were there before venturing over to Adam's shop. I saw it very briefly but I think it's hideous so didn't give it more than a passing glance. It was also kinda crowded and I had better things to do with my time. (like try and control my sister ;) )

After she wiped me clean of money, there wasn't much left to do. I'm broke sorry we have to go. Of course when she's overrun with geckos and sending them your way, we'll see who's laughing! ;) :lmao:

Hey now! Just because I couldn't stand to let a good crestie pass me by...it's not my fault...it's an addiction!!! Besides, I only just figured what type of colors I wanted in my breeding colonies and this little girl was a gorgeous orange flame (almost creamsicle looking!!)... AND she came from Phillipe de Vosjoli's stock!! ...I know, I need help...

If only more of those vendors took credit cards!! I forget to carry cash and only bring the ATM card...AND they didn't have ATM's there, so you see I had to clean out my sister's wallet (hey, at least I replinish it too....under threat of my new crestie going to TN if I didn't :P ). Besides I'm sure I can convince my neighbor to go to the MARS show in September!

Besides, I never claimed to be easy to control...It's more like joining me for the fun ride that is my life  :psychotic :lmao:

I've heard of hairless animals but a snake with no scales (that just not normal). Well this mad scientist has my vote for the Darwin award if this animal can be reproduced. Very creepy snake....

I think it looks quite cute actually, certainly compared to hairless cats or toy poodles etc.
I am concerned though about the health of the animal. It may be that scaleless pythons can lead a long and happy life in captivity, but equally they may be plagued by health problems to an early death. The important thing is deciding which is the case...

Wendy you sure do have a gecko probelm, but I have no idea what that's like. It's not like I'd travel long distances and do just about anything to get more geckos or let's say snakes... wait ... ummmmm .... nevermind  :D

I'm just glad I had enough money for the gecko, otherwise I may have found myself sold to some shop as slave labor. ;)

Nah, you work hard and are psychotic about cleaning your cages and keeping up your charts...You'd bring a great price for say a few 10 lots from Repashy's stock!! (don't worry, they're worth $750 a piece!) ;) :D

I'm glad to hear you've been considering my market value. :neener: I wonder how close I was, and now I'm even more glad I was able to come up with the cash!! Acutally as a stay at home mom, I'm already slave labor. Maybe I'd actually get sleep and time to myself if I was sold off. hmmmmmm. I'll have to consider this. :D

Thanks for replying everyone. I wasn't at Hamburg... but it seems that a lot of people showed interest in the little derma. I think his owner took this interest too seriously, personally. He shouldn't be selling these snakes for this price until this has been proved out... if he indeed plans to breed him. Again, in my opinion, it shouldn't be bred. I think the derma's problems stem from egg trauma of some other natural occurence... I don't believe it is a breedable trait. But that's just me... if someone wants to buy an unproven snake for 30,000, it's their money.

    Re: Derma Ball
Ladywhipple, I did notice there were two comments on the fauna ad that were less than supportive. I believe that the response has not all been positive, but yes, I do agree it is the height of unethical standards to sell an unproven "morph" for such money. Yet if someone buys that, then I have some great land in FL I'd like to sell them too...;)

Christie...honestly, I never considered selling you...but that's cause it never occurred to me (thanks JO!!). On the bright side you probably would get better treatment than home. Being off of work for the summers makes you appreciate the work stay-at-home moms do!! I can't wait to go back to school. I get the best of both worlds, part time teacher who gets to sleep in with the kids (only 3 sections of H. Bio, works out to 3.5 hours of work a day for a great pay rate). It's worked out wonderfully for us!

Well at least I know to be on my toes the next time you want me to see this great looking gecko. :P Maybe I should warn Danielle and Gabby if they decide to go the the MARS show with you. ;)

    Re: Derma Ball
I don't get it. What's the point of creating something like that? What kind of life is that little snake going to have? Isn't not having scales going to make it hard to move around, and not having heat pits make it hard to hunt?? I'm all for creating new morphs and stuff, but not when it seems like it's harming the snake. Crazy.

He didn't breed anything. It is an import, captive hatched in Africa, I believe.

    Re: Derma Ball
I am assuming that this is similar to hairless rats. If so, good luck breeding it; I breed normal rats, and once tried breedin the hairlesses. Infamously, they are considered near-impossible to breed. It must have something to do with their genetics, or being fragile, or something.
It is pretty sad, in any animal breeding plan, to point out a genetic defect as a desirable and attractive trait!!

    Re: Derma Ball
I think that that snake is pretty cool lookin'. Just out of curiosity, do you think that he's missing scales because of genetics or something else? Cause if that's genetics, you could make some pretty cool BPs.

    Re: Derma Ball
It looks ok, and sure if someone GAVE me one I might take it. But I definately am not going to spend 30,000 on a POSSIBLE het BP for a trait that has never been proved, and in my eyes is pretty sick. Who wants to bet that the BP is not a genetic trait, and that its just a birth defect and this guy will be in for it when someone finds out! Grr makes me mad!

Id bet a good chunk of cash that it is genetic but I'm very sceptical of how healthy these snakes will be.

I don't know much about hets but it sounds like it could be a danger to the whole het world. I just don't see how it could survive. Like a person on life support. It's sad, and unfortunate.
