    VPI Pastel purchase
Well where to begin in the general excitement of all this! We made the decision late last night with the help and advice of an excellent breeder (this is the bit where Adam will get all uncomfy with praise LOL). So here he is in all his lil guy glory....our first morph! He's a gorgeous (at least to my eyes!) VPI Pastel male bred by our own Adam Wysocki of 8BallPythons.

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...leFirstPic.jpg

Adam, a personal message from our whole family to you, which I'd like to share with the forum as a whole. The quality of this snake is only surpassed by the quality of his breeder. Thank you so very much for helping Mike and I choose the "just right for us" male. We love your level of passion for these snakes and your abiding concern that we would get exactly what we were looking for. All your snakes were lovely, it was such a hard choice but in the end this lil fella is OURS!!!!! whoooooooooooohooooooooooooo

Can you tell I'm just a tad excited!

Now to think up a very cool name for a very cool little snake.

Hey I may have seen that little guy! I was just at Adam's shop on Saturday. He was kind enough to show off some very beautiful snakes, and let us snoop in all the drawers. (it was worse than Christmas - what's in this box? ) Congrats Joanna on the new addition! He's a beautiful snake. Adam is definitely a great guy to deal with, even with his unique sense of humor. ;) :neener: :D

You may well have seen him Christie you lucky dog you!

Yep Forrest that's a real pic of our real lil Pastel direct from Adam. Isn't he just the bomb! We're really pleased with the selection we had to pick from, they were all just fantastic looking really, but he just struck us as exactly what we were looking for.

Now if only Baby and Punkin turn out to be girls *crossing fingers*

Thank you, thank you Wendy. You were lucky enough to go with Christie...oh I am jealous! LOL Thanks Brian, it's so exciting to get our first morph, though I'm betting it's just as exciting with every snake purchase, morph or not for all of us.

How's your lil Booger doing btw Wendy? Settling in well?

Joanna, I was the required driver to the shop (I don't think I anticipated it quite as much as I should have...it was awesome!). So it was quite a cool experience for me even if my poor Lil Booger was picked on for her lack of impressive size ;)

As for LB she ate her first live pinky last night (not sure when but it was gone this morning!!). I'm quite excited!

Awww thanks Adam for trusting us newbies with this wonderful male (now I'm getting all freaking misty - this is nuts!)

LB ate for you, Wendy! Very very cool! I saw some of the prettiest and most unique corns the other day in our local pet shop. Just tiny babies but so pretty. One was deep burgundy - I've never seen one that shade before. Tempting, very tempting but our priority right now is this Pastel male and a nice rack system.

I'm so jealous. I'm really wanting a Albino Morph but I lack the funds at this time. ( I can't justify the money when my baby boys need new school clothes, and supplies) but I can dream can't I.... Well off to the grind I go baby needs a new pair of shoes....P.S. welcome to the dark side, I'm sure you will it enjoy it

congrats on your new snake. what kind of rack you looking to get i have racks from three builders.
    1) jason jungles nice rack only it came with back heat i had to change it to belly heat.
    2) nature spirts nice rack they are smaller and thinner then jason but you can pick them up in taylor mi at the reptile show.
3)kreature keeper has to be the nicest i have but also the most $$$$$$$$$$$.

    Re: VPI Pastel purchase
I'll be sure to quote you on that one Vaughan LOL.

As far as a rack we've been looking at a few options...Nature's Spirit....Animal Plastics...Boaphile....a couple of others I can't name off the top of my head. It's a hard decision since it's something we want to last and they aren't cheap.

I'm looking at a few racks that hold both larger and smaller tubs as I like that flexibility.

The worst part is wondering how hard the rack is to put together and if there's wiring involved. Mike and I are just dismal at any sort of "handyperson" stuff.

Oh btw...the VPI Pastel now has a name courtesy of my husband's love for Irish mythology

Finn (short for Finnian I believe) named after some sort of warrior in Irish mythology

Blizzard, what I'd suggest is to do as we did perhaps. Find a breeder you feel confident in then allow them to advise and help you pick the best snake for you - keeping in mind your future plans and your current budget.

beautiful new addition! i know you must be dying to get the new little guy and see him in person. you picked a good one! (breeder and snake that is :) )

oh and btw i love the name your husband chose too. and about the racks--i have 2 different racks from casey at natures spirit and they are great. i hope to eventually try out a rack or two from animal plastics as well.

We are going to try to get to the Michigan Herp Society show in September as I hear Casey will be a vendor there so it would be a great opportunity to check out his racks personally and maybe there will be some show specials.

We'd love to have the rack set up when lil Finn arrives but if not he'll do well in his own wee Sterlite while we save up for the rack. I'm just rethinking the house LOL I'm running out of big flat spaces real dang fast!

    Re: VPI Pastel purchase
i've got a nature's spirit rack from casey that holds 6 15qt tubs or 3 32qt tubs. it works well and can hold a variety. i don't think you could go wrong with casey, animal plastics or boaphile. i think the rack cost 170 shipped! i would get in black though, i think black racks create more of a burrow or hide effect because they are darker, just my thoughts.

another reason why racks are great. just wait until you start running out of vertical expansion space. i'm not quite there yet but i'm just waiting for the day. :D :nerd:

    Re: VPI Pastel purchase
Thanks Vaughn I will definitely look into this further and yes I'd rather go with black for that exact effect as well as black is just easier to keep clean LOL.

I don't know why I'm thinking Casey doesn't put belly heat in his racks tho....but then we've looked at so many darn racks my mind may be playing tricks on me.

    Re: VPI Pastel purchase
i know that casey does have the option for belly heat in his larger rack--that is one of the ones that i got from him. i'm not sure if he offers the option on the others--i have one of the shoebox racks from him and it does have back heat but i was fine with that because i use it for baby leopard geckos. he does seem to be very flexible though and i'm sure you could work something out with him regardless.

    Re: VPI Pastel purchase
that particular rack is back heat. he might be able to do belly heat for you, casey has good service and tries to make everyone happy. if the room /area the rack will be in is heated, back heat will do fine. in colder rooms i think belly heat is more effective.

How in the heck did I miss this post earlier today??????

I knew you were getting him, just didn't know when!!! So, when does Finn arrive? I LOVE his name!

One day....one day.... I hope to get a morph or at least het for morph (hopefully with Adam's guidance and hopefully one of his!)

We hoping to have Finn home with us by the end of September (god willing and the car don't die LOL).

Thanks Robin, we are just absolutely thrilled with our choice and Adam's guidance was wonderful. His selection was awesome and it was soooo hard to pick just one!

Now as soon as Baby and Punkin get sexed, they can have their own names. Probably also something from irish or scottish legend/mythology. I think if Punkin turns out to be a male I'm going to use Galen....it means calm. Punkin surely is that considering being moved suddenly to our home with kids and noise after living it's whole life in a quiet adult home. What a lovely snake despite all it's been through it just settled in, started eating and doesn't mind being handled at all. For Baby I swear I'll have to find a name that means..."hey you! got a mouse????"

I still say that you can't change their names! They will forever be Baby and Punkin to me! LOL Some of those pretty pastel babies you make can have the nice Irish/Scottish names! LOL

I take it from the god willing and car doesn't die comment that you plan to drive to get Finn?

    Re: VPI Pastel purchase
Nope Finn will be shipped. Just every time I plan any major purchases around here our rotten car immediately falls over dead. With buying Finn and madly pricing a snake rack, as we are fast running out of flat areas....I'm worried that stupid vehicle will do it's usual tricks.

Well in some ways Baby and Punky will always be their names but I love pretty names and finding just the right one for each of our pets so I'm really looking forward to their "big" names.

Yeah it never fails that something comes up. I finally got the ok to get my hets but now my husband's job is in jeopardy and I've had to hold on. Grr. I don't really need to eat, but those dang kids won't stay in clothes and shoes for long before they need new ones. sigh. Yeah, the company makes big annoucements that there will be changes, but not what those changes are. I completely understand about the overseas competition. I believe that is exactly what is happening with his company. They are reducing their US holdings by one third and taking that business elsewhere. It's so unsettling. I'll definitely keep you guys in my thoughts, but I'm sure we will all be ok. I'm hoping it will be settled and I can expect to get my babies at the end of September too. (fingers crossed)

Excellent and thanks for the link! Is the Taylor show worth going to? Alex Hue is apparently vending for the first time this coming weekend. Nothing is ever very close for us in northern Michigan is it. Everytime I look anything up it's always 3 hours drive or more one way (and with gas prices the way they are up here, that's a major concern).
