Kassadin's Progression Thread!!! ♡♡

I got my new baby today and I couldn't be happier omg!!! Kassadin is my precious son he's almost 6 months old and he's super sweet. I got him from Brian at Southern Maryland Morphs, who was really great!

I was worried about him being stressed from the ride home but I took him out and he was just curious and exploring everywhere. So far he seems to be settling nicely in his tub, and Brian gave me a live rat pup that I could try to feed him tonight if it seems right. And it seems right (knock on wood)! Although if I'm being too optimistic I'll just freeze it. I'll give an update in a few hours :)

Update: Unfortunately he didn't take to the rat pup, so I had to euthanize the little guy and freeze him. I was probably just being too eager lol. But that's okay, we'll try again in like a week :)

And as for feeding, would it still be too soon if I try on Wednesday (3 days from last attempt)? The seller told me he was due to feed then.

the breeder gave u a live rat pup? so your new snake has been eating live prey? if that's the case, he might not be used to frozen/thawed food (yet). i think if u can get him another live rat pup, try feeding on Wednesday. if u wanna feed him frozen/thawed, make him a lil more hungry and attempt to feed this weekend.

Thanks for the fast response guys ^_^ I want to try to convert him to f/t as fast as possible so I guess I'll just wait until next week. :B

Awesome first snake!! I love axanthics and am considering something axanthic for my next BP (so many morphs to choose from!!!)

I would hold off on feeding. I would wait a week and try again.

Also, out of curiosity, are you letting him settle in? I ask because you posted new pics already. If you are handling him I would hold off until after he gets a few meals in him. I know, it's tempting to hang out with your new animal, but his well-being should be top priority. You'll have many years to enjoy him, so let him get settled and eating before you are handling him. He may continue to refuse food as long as he's being handled. Once he's settled and eating, then you can start handling him a bit more regularly. But I would let him get a few meals in him before handling him again.

If I'm wrong about you handling him and the pics are all from the first day I apologize.

I know right I have a huge soft spot for axanthics they're so beautiful ^.^ And no worries this is all from the first day :)
I've been leaving him alone except for water changes and temp/humidity checks. I feel like a helicopter mom though; I check the temperatures and humidity so often!! But I'm really happy because I've gotten the temps to a stable 80 and 90 :) And the humidity is around 58-60! Everything is going pretty smoothly :D

Haha I used to league way too much (I got all the way to plat 1 :')) but I stopped around the beginning of season 6. I wanted to name my snake Cassie for Cassiopeia but I ended up getting a guy so I named him Kassadin which was close enough :B And as I grow up and hopefully get the chance to grow my collection I'm gonna stick with the LoL theme.

I played league many leagues ago. I got way too good way too fast. I retired right around Wood 5 jungling with Soraka. Glorious, I was.

Keeping with the lol theme is cool. You can get a bel and name him Shen. You can get a spider variant and name it Elise. Hmmm... I can go on and on. Haha

GREAT NEWS!!! My little snake son ate today and I couldn't be any prouder and happier and excited !!! :D !!!

After thawing the rat pup and blowdrying it for a bit, I was right on schedule and started zombie-dancing at 11 pm. Kassadin just stayed in his hide so after like 5 minutes I just left it an inch or two away from him, and left him alone. I checked back in an hour and a half, and the rat was gone!!! I was worried Kas was still stressed but turns out he was just a little shy :)

In other news: I think I need to upgrade hides lmfao. The thing is Kas fits perfectly in his but sometimes he'll derp out and lift it for no reason.

I just recently got my first ball python, and its always so exciting when they eat! lol. Its great to hear he is doing well!

Glad to hear he ate and accepted F/T.
My two cents would be to do exactly what you did this time again next week. You should see the same results and start a nice feeding schedule for your boy!

Since he finished digesting, I took him out for a quick minute to weigh him. He's weighing in at 243 g now, and I'll weigh him again after he poops? I don't want to disturb him too much though, so I'll see as time passes.

Anyways, when I took him out and put him on the scale, I noticed he's in blue :O

I snagged a couple pictures on my phone and promptly put him back. And I've just upped the humidity to 70-75% :)

He's due to feed a little before he's going to actually shed. Should I still offer a rat?

i personally offer to feed my BP's even when they are in blue if i see them ready. i mean if i seem them outside of their hide or with their head poking out, i feed. if they are balled up and tucked away, i skip 'em. i think u will learn your BP's personality and interest quickly come feeding day.

I usually attempt to feed my little ones even when they're blue. I have 4 BP's, three girls and a boy, who are all at around the 235g-260g range and they usually gobble their food right up! One major thing is when I do feed, I make sure that they know their dinner is being served. (I usually will tap the mouse gently against the hide to see if there is a reaction from the noodle lol.) The only time they won't eat is if the shed has already started as they get kinda grumpy! But, best of luck with your beautiful BP!:gj:

I personally don't bother trying to feed my BP when he's in shed. He's not going to miss the meal and he's always happy to eat after a shed.

My King, however, ate his own mouse plus my BPs refusal the other night while in the blue as blue can be. He's a garbage disposal though. I swear he'll eat anything any time.

Anyway, as far as offering, it can't hurt. It's really up to you. If you go for it and he eats, great. If you try and he refuses, well, maybe at worst it's a wasted mouse. Throw it outside for a neighborhood animal.

Like somebody else said, you'll get to know your snake and his habits, demeanors, etc...

I tried feeding him Friday but he was completely uninterested in the rat and the world (he's going through a phrase; it's a juvenile thing). Next feeding attempt is Wednesday ^_^

I've seen a couple of mine shed on a few occasions, sooo fascinating and soooooooooo cool to see!!

Not only did he leave a giant poo, he decided to pee all over it and his hide! And he smushed some of it too >_< Had to do a full clean for the tub and for him lol.
I also weighed him, and he's 221 g. All it took was one bathroom trip to drop 22 g!! o_o;
And now with all this shedding and pooing out of the way, I get to go back to pretending he doesn't exist until feeding day. :B

Special Olympics was today! It's this sports event kinda thing for disabled people and I was volunteering :) I was so pooped after running around for 8 hours in mid 90 degree weather, then when I get home I see that Kassadin was pooped as well lol. Or well, he left me a poop as a welcome home gift. :P
Weighed him and he's now 261 grams!! My son is growing :') He's so difficult to weigh now, he just goes out of the bowl instead of plopping into it like he used to.
He's been eating really well! His last meal was the first time he struck at the rat while I was holding onto it with hemostats, so I'm glad he's finally warming up to me. And speaking of warming up to me, he scarfed me today :D

We upgraded to a 32 qt today!! (Actually yesterday since it's almost 3 am oops)
The 15 qt didn't fit the medium ReptileBasics hides so I went ahead and upgraded ^_^ The jump from small to medium is huge tho! But I put the small inside of the medium hide which worked out [emoji1305] Kas seems to enjoy not being so tightly coiled lol.
And he enjoyed the new tub so much he just haaad to have a BM the moment he went in xD

Oof we were hanging out on the couch while I watched some Youtube and the bugger decided to have a bowel movement T_T
Many paper towels and disinfectant wipes later, I got everything cleaned up and put back, but the smell is still lingering on the couch D: The parents aren't exactly the happiest lol

I managed to film a crappy quality video of his feeding and damn did he startle me lol. The video is really grainy and has poor lighting since I try not to have too much light around Kas. But here's a clip of his strike:

(additional info:
The rat he's eating is pretty small but I'm just about finished with these sized rats so he'll be upgrading in the next week so don't worry!! The long dog is growing up too fast for me :')
Also I have small and medium hides for him and I put the small in the medium, so he usually goes into the small and pokes the rest of his body out but that's why he's in such a small hide!)
