Must haves
Slow board day. Here's one for everybody.
As a collector what is the must have animal that no collection is complete without? I'm going to go with Purple Passion.
As a breeder, what is your must have tool? I am going to say Enchi.

Re: Must haves
I'm guessing you meant this to be a ball python exclusive thread so I won't mention anything else...
In the ball python realm I think everyone needs a piebald/clown/both. Personally I prefer clowns so that's what I'm going with.
As a breeder I would've said enchi but since that was already mentioned I'm going to say Mojave/phantom. Mojave is definitely more popular but I'm personally going to focus more on phantom so I thought I'd throw that in there too since most combos are pretty similar.

I'm starting to hear a lot more buzz around phantoms lately, which is good for me since about half of my breeders have the gene. I actually prefer it in combos over Mojave.

It seems like there has been quite a bit of a buzz around darker animals lately. Phantoms are darker then Mojaves so maybe that's why.

Must have? Hypo / Leopard / Enchi / OD / CG those can take any mutation to a whole new level of WOW
-
My general philosophy so far has been, "yes, but what if enchi?" and "okay, now let's make it pied!" Everything else is bonus candy. I am a simple person with simple needs.

as a collector, a must have is an Albino or some kinda Albino combo.
as a breeder, a crazy looking Disco combo lol. :)

I'm still waiting on my perfect OD. Hopefully I run across one soon. I missed the boat on CG. Leopard is awesome but runs counter to what I am trying to do. Hypo is not my thing but wouldn't discount having the gene for resale purposes. One of my Enchis is het hypo and she is gravid by her son so maybe I will end up with some whether I intended it or not.

LOL. You sound like me. It is not a question of if I am going to add enchi only when.

My personal must have would be a sunset. It is the undisputed king of ball pythons at least until the next big morph hits. ( And I'm very happy to say that with luck will have one soon)
As a breeder I would say enchi gives you the most wow for your money but my main tool over the next few seasons will be red axanthic it's a very under used gene and doesn't get the credit it deserves
-
I guess my answer for both would be pied.
Eye catching, recessive, great staple in the hobby.
Another 'tool' in the box would be pastel, a great pastel can really amp up combos.

totally disputed. that just yo opinion. many peeps will say Scaleless, some will say Rainbow, others will same the the Stormtrooper. IMO the king is the Monsoon Mojave. :)

Re: Must haves
Must have is pied for me :)
I am a new breeder this year so couldn't answer that with experience but I would like to say either pied or Mojave as they are what I will be working with mostly xx

Re: Must haves
From a collection standpoint. I just had to have a pied bald and a albino clown.
As someone trying to breed i felt i really needed the sugar gene.

Re: Must haves
A must have for me Is definitely fire, Enchi and OD, the way they clean up and brighten up combos is amazing.

stormtrooper has not been proven as anything reproducible as of yet and scaleless imo are over rated tho I will admit the monsoon is phenomenal and has a chance to take the crown but it needs to become more available there just aren't very many of them yet(here's hoping his clutch hatches several this year) and while sunset are rare you can buy one if you want to sell your soul (trust me I know)lol rainbow is sweet too

Re: Must haves
Sooooooo... I have no idea how to answer this. Many of the previous statements include snakes I am not interested in (I hate albinos, the only one that struck me kn the group is the toffee, and it isn't even close to my list of "genes to get").
However, I did scour every ball python base morph from the World of Ball Pythons. Here is my top list:
Super Stripe Complex: Orange Belly and Spector.
BEL Complex: Bamboo, Lesser
8 Ball Complex: Black Pastel, Huffman.
BlkEL Complex: Disco, Fire.
Other: GHI, Calico/Sugar, Pinstripe, Enchi, Pastel.
You will notice that for SS, 8 Ball, and BlkEL the snakes represent a strong and weak super form. Crossing those leads to some extremely nice looking snakes. My goal is to get as many of each morph in individual snakes within my price range at the time (dropping morphs for better looking individuals if need be)
Secondary list: het Daddy, Special, Blackhead, the entire Super Stripe complex, Arroyo, Blade, Brite, Clown, Chocolate, Genetic Banded, Genetic Black Back, Harlequin, KRG, Lace Black Back, Leopard, Mario, Mahigany, Orange Dream, Paint, Pied, Red Stripe, Shredder, Sandblast, Shatter, Trick.
That secondary list only includes the ones from Morph Market, there are a lot more that aren't on there.

Re: Must haves
So many cool genes but if I could only have five... Disco is a must! Mojave, enchi or orange dream , yellow belly, spotnose.
And one recessive it would be desert ghost.

You forgot the Clown
I have yet to find a clean sexy male clown that I like when I also have the funds.
Clown makes EVERYTHING better. :gj:
