Deal or not?
So I think I got a steal of a deal today. I'm so excited that I have to post about it.
I found an AP enclosure on Craigslist with ProProducts overhead panel, sliding glass doors with locks, set of acrylic doors, and a HerpStat 1. I can't find an appropriate size corresponding to this enclosure on AP's website but the ad did say it was custom. I haven't take a tape measure to it myself but he said it's 60" x 30" and he didn't specify height. Probably 24-30". I didn't want to skin it up in the bed of my pickup so I actually rented a van to drive 3 hours for it.
Andddddd... it was $300 for all. Hell, I figure with a HerpStat 1 being $119 alone, plus that size enclosure and the panel, it had to be a deal. He claims he had over $1,000 in all of it. Here are some pictures of the enclosure!

It's obviously too big for a Ball. What should I put in it?!
Supposedly he had a boa. I'm surprised the PP heat panel is offset to the left. I would think it would be mounted in the center. Should some UTH be placed under the right side to help keep the substrate at a proper temperature? My wife and I are about to start moving so I don't have any immediate plans or intentions for it. It's huge. I don't have room for it in our current house. I just couldn't pass it up though!
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Deal or not?
Steal of a deal on that! Get a super dwarf retic is my vote or maybe a carpet python. Whatever you end up with congrats on that cage pickup!

Nice deal. RHPs are usually placed on one side or the other as most people that use them use them use them as the sole heat source.
And heck that's even better than what I'm selling a set up for. Got a local dealing running right now for my Pro-Line 48x23x14 HDPE cage with Pro Products PH3 65 watt RHP and Herpstat 2 for $300. Add a Herpstat 1 for $50 more. Doing it locally only as I don't want to mess with shipping. And still no bites lol. I need to scrounge up the cash to pay off 2 AP T25s I have on order lol.
And as for what to get, my vote is either a boa or SD retic morph.

Looks like a steal to me!!! Great pickup!!

That's a dream enclosure for sure. Enjoy it.

Score! I've got a couple babies that would grow into it nicely. As noted above, putting the RHP off to one side provides for a heat gradient across the enclosure.
Once my husband gets his CDL I should start watching CL where his runs go. [emoji846]

Nice! If you have ready cash and a truck you can really score good deals on large used racks and enclosures because they are an expensive PITA to ship.

Nice[emoji1360][emoji1360]. Great advice as all above stated. I have my Pro Panels centered on the Right half set at 92 and that makes my Hot Side 89-91 and Cool Side 78. I run 85 watt pro panels and have 2) 24" high AP enclosures and 1) 30" high.

Deal or not?
I appreciate all the input! I did get a chance to take a tape to it today and it is 60" x 30" x 18"! Probably better that it's not so tall. I would say it keeps the panel from having to work so hard to maintain proper temps.
I honestly don't even know where to put this thing. It's on a table on the front porch at the moment, haha. Please don't ask where I live, I'd like to keep it. I don't need it disappearing in the middle of the night!
Well, I'm a beginner but I feel like I have learned a ton already. I spend every evening here, reading. I don't skimp on equipment. I try to be sure my little ball has everything necessary to provide her all the happiness I can.
Point being, I would honestly love to go the SD Retic route. A guy I was close with a few years ago had around 8 SD Retics and 1 Retic in large AP enclosures. He also had a rattlesnake of some sort, a gaboon viper, a rhino viper, and numerous others in a rack setup. I spent a good bit of time around them and was pretty comfortable handling the adult SD retics. Granted, handling is different than caring for full time.
Is it too early to take that jump? I kind of robbed that deal I just got of the Herpstat for my little Ball but really, in theory, all I need is another Herpstat and I should be good to go, correct? Simple things such as substrate, water bowl, and whatnot?

Re: Deal or not?
Yep, get yourself another thermostat and dial your temps in and you're ready for your new sd retic haha.

With a 30" deep enclosure you need at least 18" of height, otherwise cleaning the pile of poop out of the back corners becomes a lot harder.
That size enclosure should house a 50% or higher SD retic for life.

Re: Deal or not?
Well good deal! I appreciate it guys!
We actually have a Herp Expo coming up next weekend and I'm going to hope to find a deal on a Herpstat. This might be a question someone here might know the answer to... Does Spyder Robotics have a wholesale price? Every shop I've talked to has basically told me they can't get Herpstats in cheap enough to make money on. So will Spyder Robotics not provide them a different rate than selling straight to the public? If that's the case, then I may as well just order one now because deals on them at an expo will likely be nonexistent. I've also been trying to keep an eye out on some used 4s since the 6 is out but it seems everyone is holding onto them. I have a hard time finding many used Herpstats at all.
I've also been having a hard time finding many reputable breeders. Obviously, I have been keeping an eye on Bob Clark, Vital, and such. I read good things on a post here about Wildside in the U.K. From what I can tell, I think Travis Kubes is out of it for now. I saw a Facebook post he made like a week ago talking about getting back into it though.
There is also a shop about an hour down the road called Pets-A-Plenty. It is the most incredible shop I have ever been in. He has everything from little balls to the biggest gaboon vipers I've ever seen. I have searched this forum for the shop name and "Andy Maddox", the guy I was speaking with last time I was in and I haven't read a bad thing yet. All of his Facebook reviews are excellent. Not only does his shop look great, the animals all are extremely well taken care of and it is honestly a passion for him. You can tell it's not just about the money. I'm not sure how often he breeds SD retics or if at all even. Maybe I'll make another trip out this weekend and see what I can find out. Maybe I should go local if I can.
Do any of you have any recommendations? I'm going to keep checking the forums for more options in the meantime.
Thanks again, all!
