Super, Special Fun, Times With My Buddy.
No need for a progression thread here. This is hot off the press so to speak and I'm not looking for any "progression".

I just had my wonderful, little pal Wallace out for another handling session. He's been great lately and today he decided to wonder to the floor. Being a sport I let him have a go at it and of course he found something he could sneak behind. Not wanting to mess with any type of extended prying and unwinding I simply reached down and gently picked him up at mid body before he could make his dash.

Would anybody like to take a guess as to what transpired next? I'm sure there are some that know where this is headed.

He sprayed, and Peed. It consisted of some urate, chalky whites to make the cleaning effort more difficult, some yellows for added color and of course the pure liquid.

Here's the "Special/Fun" portion of the story. He got me in the face, and if my mouth would have been open, I'd have been in trouble.

So the target areas were face, sweat pants, shirt, weight bench, rubber flooring and carpet. He had already passed a lot of urate in his cage yesterday and I saw no buildup or indication he was holding more. I usually check prior to handling to avoid this type of thing.

There is something about retic Pee that smells more than the other snakes wizz.

THE PET BELOW NEEDS TOILET TRAINING AND A MANNERS CLASS

    Thanks buddy!

And yes, for whatever reason retic piss seems to stink far worse than any other snakes

Haha, he does look like he is smirking in that pic. Guess I'm still lucky. The worst Caesar has done to me was piss on my foot but it was just the clear liquid and actually it didn't smell like anything. It basically looked like a very lightly yellow tinged water. And I don't know about their piss being the worse. Rosey has some seriously potent piss. It was strong enough to stain her Pro-Line when I used it.

I'm convinced that the amount of mainland in our retics affects their 'personality' a lot. I mean Phyllis and Wallace both piss a fair amount when out and dart quickly where as Caesar being a lot more mainland has only pissed once outside the cage and that wasn't a flight thing, he just calmly let it go on my foot lol. Also Caesar doesn't dart. He just moves with determination lol. Caesar is like Gene which has a nice amount of mainland in him too iirc.

And his piss was just a nice stream. It wasn't a full on fire hosing lol. Man, too bad someone didn't get it on video. I can imagine your response when Wallace let it fly haha. And thank god your mouth wasn't open :puke2:

On a side note, I did find a use for my extra Herpstat. I have it set up as light timer for all the cages that does a simulated sunrise and sunset that I have set to ramp up and down in 1 hour. So hopefully it works out. We'll find out tonight and I'll let you all know if Herpstats work with the AP lighting :)

To be honest Phyllis hasn't peed an overwhelming amount out of her cage in a while. A handful of times, maybe more, in the last year. When she does she lets it rip though, and not as a defensive, musking type pee. Just an "I ate a huge rat and then chugged a quart of water... watch out below!", type of piss lol.
She's never really "took off" or darted on me either. Used to be a tad flighty getting her out of the cage but hasn't done that in months. Gerald acts like he wants to dart occasionally but he's calmed down more and more every time he's out. Should shed in the next day or so, I'll post pics in his thread when he does.

Edit: Gerald shed just before I typed this apparently. I'll post pics in a bit!

    COOL on the Herpstat!
Great idea for sunrise and set.

Wallace has done this 3 times total, but this one was really unexpected. He got me good and the left corner of my mouth caught a bit.

He really ins't a big problem and handles well, but I think when he is not fully in my hands, he thinks he can sprint off.

I'm not sure how summer pictures on the deck rail will go. I may have to have my son with me in case he decides to take off.

Happy B-day Caesar! Its tomorrow right?

Man piss in the mouth........... 🤣

Gene has only pissed outside of his enclosure once and it was followed with crap.... on the carpet.

Gene will literally per every day with the exception of feeding day and a few days before shed. I'm on the 3rd floor apartment, I need to get the snakes out to a park sometime for some pictures. Gene is really chill so I'll take him on the balcony and he'll just relax on my lap.

Haha, at least it was just the corner of the mouth. A full on mouth shot would be bad.

And nah, Caesar was born May 18th 2016. 6 more days and he'll be 11 months old. But thanks for the early B-day grats lol.

    LOL!

ON the mouth, not in thankfully.

It was still a bummer, but I made it through the ordeal.

That strategy ends a handling session faster than a bite.

    Darn it,

I thought it was April, but I guess these two are much closer in age than I thought.

    May 18 and June 1.

Haha. Nah I don't have any snakes born in April. Rosey was like Sept 2012, Vicky was May 2014, Dottie was like August 2014, Caesar was May 2016, Gina was August 2016, Rango was March 2016, Luna was July 2016.

LOL - This is what scares me most about retics! seems like its not a matter of "if", nor even a matter of "when", but more a matter of "which time?":pee:

I haven't had the pleasure of smelling Retic pee, but Blood pee has to be up there in the stinky top 5 .:weirdface He does look like he's gloating in the pic, just a bit.

Yup but it depends on the snake. I think Gene has only pissed on the floor once and pooped lol. Caesar has only pissed once on my foot and like I said, it was just liquid. Not a defensive evacuation of the bowels. More of, 'see what I did there? Yeah I did that' And not sure about Gene but Caesar's piss didn't smell like anything. It wasn't like the white urate kind of piss. More just very warm water lol.

I don't worry about it too much. I think unfortunately this 3rd episode was just some excitement on his end and probably not the best grab direction on my end. "Barrel down range" as some of us that shoot like to say.

Snakes with high metabolisms that are active and lean tend to eliminate more. I understand the Timor pythons can be like poop and pee cannons. I was fairly set on getting one a while back.

I've never had the boa do it, but the carpet has once.

The royal actually went for #2 way back when.

Small price to pay, and I do shower so things are forgotten quickly.

Irwin the boa got me once, but he was just being a sneaky little jerk. He was all snuggled up wedged between the side of my leg and a couch cushion. I thought I felt something a little bit strange but thought nothing of it. but then the smell, then an hour of upholstery cleaner and a scrub brush. And then, by some cruel coincidence, my infant daughter woke up and as I changed her diaper she projectile pooped all over me. "Just one of those days" doesn't even come close.

Only weird fluids I've ever gotten from my snakes was the piss on my foot from Caesar and Vicky once dribbled water down the front of me lol. She took a huge drink of water and I knew it probably wasn't the best idea but I picked her up anyways. Well, she dribbled down the front of my shirt lol. Didn't even phase her, she just dribbled and moved. I put her back and she sat at the front of the cage looking at me lol.
