Missing snake.
So I know very well that snakes are escape artists and they tend to disappear without warning a lot. Well, my BP, Calliope has gone missing. This is the first time this has ever happened, the kid on her tank was on correctly when I went to go get her out to hold her while I play video games like I often do. I checked her cool hide, she wasn't there. Her hot hide is a bit bigger so I can't see her if she's in there just from looking, so I tend to have to pick it up to see her. Well I picked it up and... not there either. The house is very cold, so I have to keep a heat lamp on to keep her tank warm. She's not in her tank, and I can't find her. Has this happened to any of you guys? If so, how did it turn out?

Re: Missing snake.
Never happened to me, thankfully, but i would say look around the cage, in the smallest, and most hard to reach place you can imagine, and look in places where you think "there is no way she is in there", also, under appliances and dark places, thats all i can think of, but good luck finding her, and keep us updated please

Thanks, yeah I've been looking around everywhere since I noticed her missing. I just can't think of where she would be. I've been trying to think of warm places she could have gone to.

I'm mostly worried because we have two cats, a dog, and a turtle that roam freely around the house.

Ive read people saying how their snake was really close to the cage once they found it, maybe in or under a dresser, or in a closet, think warm, dark, and small places, how big is she?

She's tiny, she eats medium mice so if that gives you any idea. My bf also has a snake and he said this has happened to him a few times too and says not to worry about it, she'll turn up, but you know, this is my baby, I'm terrified she'll get hurt, or stuck, or something. She was supposed to eat the day after tomorrow too :(

Ohh, i totally understand, i know most people find their snakes, but i would die if i come home i cant find either one of my noodles. Just look everywhere until you find her, ive heard of people setting up a warm hide to lure the snake in, and also thawing mice or even getting a live one so that the snake comes looking for it, and also some people put flour on the floor before bed so they can see any snake tracks in the morning

Did you tear the tank apart completely to make sure she really wasn't in there? I would guess she would still be nearby since she probably found a close and dark spot. I had a corn get out when I was younger. Ended up two floors down in someone's apartment. Luckily we had told them she was loose and they called us when she was found to come get her.

I've been asking everyone that's come over if they may have gotten her out and lost track of her or something, but no one has said anything, and my little sister refuses to help look. I've asked everyone in the house (mom, boyfriend, little sister, and mom's boyfriend) everyone's said they haven't seen her. Sister refuses to help look or even look around in her room even though Calliope is small enough to slip under the cracks under our doors so she could very well be in her room. Mom isn't making that big of a deal, and her bf is trying to help look. I'm so worried.

Yeah there aren't that many places to hide in her tank, bother her hides are upside down now and there isn't enough substrate in her tank for her to burry herself. Her tank is on top of a dresser, we've looked in the drawers and around it (under it too) so far nothing. The lid to her tank was on correctly when I went to go get hr. Idk how she could have gotten out unless someone took her out and lost track of her, especially when the lid was on correctly and everything when I went to get her a few minutes ago.

Whatever room the cage is in, I would tear it apart (carefully) because the snake is very likely to be in there, and once done there, i would go to the area bearest to that room, and work my way throughout the whole house

I did not see this before, i would really put them somewhere they cant get to the snake, in a room or something, they could kill the snake, maybe thinking its something to play with

Exactly. They've all seen her. The cats are spoiled by her and might kill her out of defense if they think she's that big of a threat (but I know she wouldn't try to hurt them or anything) the dog likes to try to lick her and play with her when I have her out and she's around. I put the dog outside. The cats don't move around much, one is horridly obese (my mom's cat) and the other is pregnant (my cat). I'm gonna put them up somewhere though.

Did you get the drawers out completely? They can wedge themselves on any kind of ledge in the back where you can't easily see them. I hope she pops up for you soon!
I would definitely put something warm out to see if you can lure her to a warm dark spot. Check shoes too snakes are weird. Good luck on finding her!

So I've looked through my room as best as I can right now, and I'm certain she isn't in here, I asked my eight year old sister multiple times to go through her own room, and she is DETERMINED that Calliope isn't in there even though my sister hasn't been home all day and Calliope is small enough to fit under the cracks under doors. This is my sisters room.

Lol, I'm knee deep in eight year old child toys looking for her. My sister had a really bad attitude problem, idk why I thought she'd want to help look for her. I did tell her that since she isn't helping she won't be allowed to hold her anymore, and she really likes to hold her.

Well I've gone through every place I can think of, behind my fridge, washer, and dryer, tore up my room, did as much as possible in my sisters room, my bathroom is pretty bare so there wasn't much there, gonna check in mom's bathroom, and bedroom, if she isn't in there, I'm gonna wait a while before looking again.

Seems like a good idea. Try to use the flour overnight, and maybe even use a feeder to lure her out

Places I've found my snakes
#1 Under the couch
#2 Under the stove (he came out when I started baking cookies)
#3 Under big pillows that are on the floor, leaning on the wall
#4 in the middle of the kitchen floor (which is warm because my apartment is right over the boiler room)
#5 Climbing the power cord for his light back to his own cage
#6 On top of the bag of mulch under his table
Yes, I know that seems like a lot, but I've owned several snakes over the last couple of years. I go to fill a water bowl really quick, and they're gone. I doze a little too deep and they're gone. They get too strong for 2 clips, and I need 4 clips. They are sneaky little guys for sure!
I haven't lost one all they way yet! It took Harvey 9 days to climb up his cord looking for food. I do set out bowls of water.
USE A FLASHLIGHT, since they are shiny!:snake:
#7 I've Had an African House (aka little itty bitty) girl who climbed out the breathing holes in her carrier, and she's in my car right now! This was 3 days ago. I'll keep you updated. Lesson learned, cover her carrier with a light cloth!

Re: Missing snake.
Owning snakes is very different, so we don't come with childhood experience. I'm always learning, and that's why I love this website. It's not like we can go to snakey training classes like people do with their puppies! Right now I have Harvey. I've had him for a year and a half because he was a "special needs" snake in that he was a bit of an :cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r:. He needed to be trained to be friendly for a LONG time. I've realized now that he is always going to be mine!
The rest of my group (5 others) have been trained to be nice, to eat well, and to sit still when being held. They went to handicapped or ill children by donation. These kids were allergic to traditional furry animals. So, I have experience with lots of newbies who will chase for an exit. As they get older, they don't try so hard. Harvey is very content in his big enclosure getting regular meals and regular spa treatments. He stopped hissing a long time ago, but I love him so much that I'm just gonna keep him. I have never been bit by him, I just didn't like his attitude and I wasn't willing to give him out.
I'm still watching for Cecily, and I am afraid she ran right out of the car. That said, I am going to take apart part of the dash of my Mazda today to see if she is there.

Re: Missing snake.
I forgot to comment on your snake names! I LOVE Calliope!
Mine have been:
George
Ernie
Ted
Harvey
Mikey
Cecily
I love human names, as it makes them more accessible to the public. :D

Re: Missing snake.
Not sure if you've found your snake but thought I'd give another suggestion. Years back when I had corns I lost 1 a couple times. Totally my fault as I'd feed at night and would doze off while they ate... Or while I was holding one. Lol
1 time it was inside the controls of the washer machine. (I fed on top of it)
1 time she was inside the seat of the computer chair I was sitting on.
I can't even begin to explain or understand how she managed that one as I had to take the chair apart and lure her out with food. I never even thought to look the cuz it was sealed completely to my knowledge. Only found her cuz my dog kept sniffing my butt over and over despite telling her to leave me alone. Turned out my snake was starting to poke her head out and my dog was sniffing her and not my butt! 😂
The chair was the kind that you had to spin to raise or lower so there wasn't any opening for a lever she could have gone into.
All this to say that you should even check places you think are completely sealed cuz they'll manage somehow.

Thank you for the ideas. I still haven't found her, right now I'm just thankful all of our vent to our ventilation are on the ceiling, and there aren't any holes in our walls since it's a new house. Was gonna put flour down but mom said she'd murder me if I did. I have the warm hide box set up but still no luck. I just hope she isn't in my sister's room since that room is such a mess and she could get badly hurt in there from mountain of toys falling over etc.

So she was in here, and it took a mouse, and a snake hook to get her out, as soon as I got her out my cat went into labor so there was almost no time to rejoice before having to put her up, and make sure my cat's first litter went smoothly. I now have four kittens, and my snake back. I'm so relieved.

Re: Missing snake.
Hi,
I had this problem a few months ago. My snake, Sid, made his big escape upstairs. I didn't know what to do.. I looked everywhere I could possibly think of. Finally, I thought about pouring neat rows of flour between all the doorways and any other place I thought he might go. I made sure to make the rows of flour as tall, thick and neat as I could so that if a snake slithered through it would be easy to tell. A couple nights later my husband and I noticed some slither marks in a doorway downstairs and we looked around i that room and sure enough Sid was in there. I was so surprised that he had somehow made it downstairs. I wasn't even going to put flour down there because I didn't think there could be any way he could get down there. Anyway, my husband and I found him in that downstairs room halfway into the wall. whew! Now I am much more careful when I put the top back on his cage! I saw that someone had mentioned this idea before and I just wanted you to know that it worked really well for me. I hope it does for you too. It is so frustrating to have a missing snake,,, not just because you are worried about him but because everyone else in the house looks at you like you are the devil for "letting" a snake escape in "their" house. !!! Good luck finding your snake as easily as I found Sid. elysheva

No wonder he didn't go to the nice warm hide... he found a DIFFERENT nice warm hide, lol. Congrats on the safe location of snake and the new kittens! My mom used to breed Persians, and while I hated that breed (my god you will be hard pressed to find a cat breed with more neurosis, the inbreeding is atrocious) I miss having the new bitty fluff balls.

Yeah, to be honest I'm against the breeding of animals that have such big health problems (pugs, munchkin cats, Persians etc.) but that doesn't keep me from falling in love with the little guys. Here's some pics of the kittens and I'll drop a picture of my cat (the mom) later. We didn't intend for her to get pregnant, though we didn't get her fixed because I wanted her to have one litter before getting that done, I just didn't want her to have that litter now lol. Everyone kept letting her out of the house while she was in heat though, so it ended up happening. Definitely going to get her fixed now though.
