In truth i totally appreciate your honesty, i panicked and wasn't thinking about YT, and i was already browsing the site when it happened. Thank you so so very much!!!

Was sold the wrong size clips, anything I can do till morning when I can go to the store????
-
Try to get the wide clips, those thin ones are junk.

Re: Relative Emergency!!!! She popped the clips right off the tank!!!!!!
I'll keep that in mind, but for tonight I don't know how to keep her contained O-O

Go get a two bricks and place on the corners of the tank. Don't place directly on the screen mesh, but on the metal on the corners.

Re: Relative Emergency!!!! She popped the clips right off the tank!!!!!!
Is that heavy enough? She shoved her lamp off the top when she popped off the snaps

I mean several things you can do. Bricks on the 4 corners. Get two bungee cords and go around the top and clip them on the bottom(assuming you have an aquarium of some sort).

Yea it's a glass tank, thank you! I'll try that. If it doesn't work looks like ill be up all night watching the little escape artist.

Oh and I just realize I didn't mention the bricks with bungee cord would be the best option. Since bungee cords do give a bit, you don't want your snake pushing up then it coming down on it. So make sure it doesn't have any slack. I would say the safest bet is a brick on each corner with added bungee cords. The bricks honestly should do the job though.

Re: Relative Emergency!!!! She popped the clips right off the tank!!!!!!
I'm toast on sleep tonight, I don't know if she's just getting the right leverage or what but she can shove anything off it. And I don't want to risk taping it shut like i would with a rodent.
-
Don't tape it. Tape and snakes DO NOT MIX!!! I know you're talking about tape on the outside of the enclosure, which can be ok, but NEVER use tape inside the enclosure. The adhesive will break down due to heat/humidity and your snake WILL find a way to get tangled in it, which will cause huge problems. Just use some bricks, rocks, books, etc... Bring those clips back and get the right ones and you'll be fine.
Also, if she's trying that hard to get out, your husbandry may be off. Typically BPs will spend the vast majority of their time in their hides when happy and their husbandry is right. Of course, being nocturnal, they will naturally be more active and inquisitive at night, so she may simply be exploring.

Re: Relative Emergency!!!! She popped the clips right off the tank!!!!!!
I would not risk it, I think you may have misread that post. Even with rodents I only taped their cage shut in dire emergencies until i could get twisty ties they couldn't chew through. I'll hit the pet shop first thing as soon as its open, in the meantime her tank is set up next to my desk so I can use this to stay awake while i watch for more escape attempts XD
She seems to be exploring, poking her nose into anything in her tank she can think of. Can't say I blame her, I'd do the same in a new home!
Thermometer says temps at 80F and humidity is a little over 50%

I understood what you meant, and it's good you know better. I just figured better safe than sorry to let you know. Some newbies don't know better and it leads to tape stuck to the snake and scales and skin being pulled off the animal or worse.
-
Re: Relative Emergency!!!! She popped the clips right off the tank!!!!!!
I completely understand, and I appreciate the motivation behind it. The safety of animals should ALWAYS come first. Really have to get in and get those clips though.

Re: Relative Emergency!!!! She popped the clips right off the tank!!!!!!
Ok, could this be a faulty tank lid issue? No matter what i put on it she shoves it straight off. It's like she's having fun with it. Just broke my coffeepot because it DEFINITELY should have been heavy enough. Things a dinosaur and weighs a ton.
-
The lid should be fine, but unfortunately, if it's a 10 gallon, it will most likely be loose and you will need the clips for a 10 gallon, which I don't think they carry at the store.

Put her on a pillowcase, the thinnest, cheapest one you have (lowest thread count. Tie it shut making sure the knot is solid! (I use zip ties instead). Clear out floor space in your tank and put her back in the tank, contained in the bag.
I just had a second thought...do you have cookie sheets or a board that could go on top of the lid completely? Is so, put them on top of the lid, leave a little screen space for airflow, and pile them with bricks or a bunch of heavy books. The weight would be supported by the edges of the top, but solidly distributed, making it very unlikely she can get enough leverage to knock it off.
-
Re: Relative Emergency!!!! She popped the clips right off the tank!!!!!!
Pillowcase may be the idea i go with, as I tried my heaviest cookbooks, my coffeepot (RIP coffee) bungee cords with the heavy books, tried a towel over it to maybe calm her down, im seriously starting to consider this is a tank flaw, not her strength.
-
Does the lid fit securely? It should barely have any wiggle room, but should have a tiny bit of play.
Assuming you were sold the right lid, the right clips will work. Also, PetSmart doesn't carry the good clips I don't think. You may have to try Petco for those. Or online.
-
Just thought of this, it may put your mind at ease...
when installed correctly, the right clips will be very secure. I can basically try to lift the lid and the entire enclosure will lift up rather than the clips popping off. So once you have the set-up right, you won't need to worry. Just don't forget to put them on when you close the enclosure. Many have learned that the hard way too.
-
Re: Relative Emergency!!!! She popped the clips right off the tank!!!!!!
the lid wiggles, but it came as a set with the tank, and i can't afford to find out the hard way, as I dont know how my dog would respond. when she first saw her in the tank she ignored her but idk about out of it.
-
Ok, the lid should be perfectly fine then. Once you have the right clips your mind will be more at ease.
And always better to be safe than sorry:gj:

Re: Relative Emergency!!!! She popped the clips right off the tank!!!!!!
She's calmed down since i put her in my sock, it was the only thing i could get her into that she wanted in, pillowcase got me bit again

Re: Relative Emergency!!!! She popped the clips right off the tank!!!!!!
Ditch the fish tank/screen top and either get a rack or a correct reptile enclosure.
Those clips work for a while - until they wear out and they don't. Snakes are a lot stronger than they look and they are escape artists. Usually they get loose at the worst time too.
If you can't afford that then I would suggest non-elastic nylon luggage straps to secure the top, they're $7 at WalMart. Bungies stretch and usually your snake ends up getting stuck halfway out with a bunch of scales ripped off its back by the time you find it.
-
Re: Relative Emergency!!!! She popped the clips right off the tank!!!!!!
The bungee cords were a temporary fix that didnt even work lol she unhooked it somehow, im not sure how. Tank i have is a reptile tank, i think the lid is just flawed. im getting new clips today, and in the meantime shes asleep in a sock (finally). I appreciate your input though :)

Re: Relative Emergency!!!! She popped the clips right off the tank!!!!!!
I hope you get your lid to work but if you continue to have issues I'd switch enclosures. Many years ago I used to try weighing down improper lids for my BP and no matter what I used he always escaped. I eventually got it right. I'm not sure how you feel about tubs but this is a pretty good one you can get for like $13 at Walmart.

I have a petsmart 10gal tank with a screen top lid that sits on top. I used pliers a bent the clips tighter to put more pressure on the lid and I also use 2x5lbs weights, one on each side of the heat lamp. I just picked my normal ball up last weekend from petsmart for $40 (if you join petperks, normaly $60). Had I known the reptile expo was this Sunday, I would have waited. Still going tho to see what deals on accessories I can find.

Straps are a 100% guarantee.

Re: Relative Emergency!!!! She popped the clips right off the tank!!!!!!
As a temporary fix i got another set of snaps at petsmart since i had to return the broken thermometer and pick up mice anyway. She seems to have gotten the point as well, she has stopped pushing on the top lol. On a side note though, she did break my coffeepot. :(
