It's a piece of leather or snake skin, or something else, that goes around the raised part of a "cowboy" hat. If you google Rattlesnake hat bands you will see what I'm talking about. I actually have a cobra hat band and wallet. (They're old, not an endangered species then, or now, as far as I know).

I really like the rattle boots but the last cheaper pair I looked at were $900 something a pair.

It probably costs a lot less to go through the whole hunting and tanning process yourself, but it takes a while to get enough skin for an entire boot. Maybe just a strip of skin on some existing boots would really spruce them up.

Hunting for food is great and all, but I think the joke in the OP's post is pretty tasteless. Especially to people who see that and don't know any better, and legit think rattlesnakes are aggressive and will chase them lol. There's enough myths and false tales for snakes as it is.

That is true I guess at first glance it's pretty funny until you actually think about the joke itself

Exactly this. If the post had mentioned that it was a joke, it might have been less damaging.

Thanks, I felt the same way. And I hunt. Guess on this sight I'm more use to living snake pics. ;)

Yeah, I ain't opposed to to hunting for the sake of eating and using the carcass responsibly, but with the size of those babies I would assume they were killed specifically for that "joke" or else were part of a rattle snake round up, because they don't look like they were killed for food. A lot of people don't understand how vital these guys are to the environment and controlling the rodent population. Then Texas gets new outbreaks of hantavirus and geeeee I wonder why ever that could be!

I thought the babies were fake at first, but if they are real, that's too bad. Around me we have so many rattlesnakes that people trim bushes a few inches off the ground so they can see any snakes hiding under them. I know several people who were seriously injured by rattlesnakes, especially young ones.
