Bedding opinions?
So I ordered what I thought was coco husks. Nope I ordered the wrong one and got the coconut loose substrate...it's a fine nasty looking blah to say the least. So I also still have a huge bag of aspen how could I put these 2 in combination without the coco getting everywhere on the tank or my snakes? Ordered a new bag of coco husks but might as well use this stuff up since I got it...
Also not overly worried about feeding on the substrate as I usually put a piece of cardboard down first anyways

Aspen will mold when wet. Id get the chip and mix it with the finer stuff.

Ok ya I was just trying to use the aspen up but I'll save it for later if I decide to breed rats down the line and wait for the chips to get here to start using up the fine stuff

Re: Bedding opinions?
You can use the aspen, you just have to change it out when it gets peed on or a water bowl tips.
Check out cypress mulch, you might like it.

Re: Bedding opinions?
I had a previous thread talking about the cons and pros of different types and I was really attracted to the coconut chip ones. Trust me it was a hard decision between cypress repti stuff and the coconut lol
My main reason to get rid of aspen though was the humidity swings in my tank. I can keep it around 60% but I've got to constantly check and adjust multiple times per day.

Re: Bedding opinions?
In my opinion there is nothing to touch Orchid / reptile bark - looks good , makes your snake stand out , holds as much ( or as little ) moisture as you require .
I detest Aspen - it's the opposite of the above and it gets everywhere and drove the wife bonkers . It's banned !

I used to use aspen, but I switched over to lignocel after a few friends at the reptile store recommended it to me, now it's what I use for my leopard gecko, and two royals. I find it doesn't cause the humidity to take too much of a hit like aspen did. And if in the rare occasion it gets wet, it doesn't seem to mold quickly, and if so, it's easy to replace.

Re: Bedding opinions?
I may just pick up some reptile bark too and give them all a couple weeks/month and see what I like best.
Where would I go about looking up this lignocel stuff?

I got it at a specialist reptile store, and then it became popular and was started to get onto the shelves at Pets At Home stores (biggest pet retailer). I just did some research because you're in the United States, I don't think it's all too well known in the States, it's probably going to be too impractical for you to ship the stuff from Amazon every time, too.
You might be able to find out from someone here if it's available in the States. If not, just go for what's more practical.

Ok lol I was gonna google it and see what I could find but I forgot since the kids were running around screaming hitting each other...joys of parenthood haha

Yeah. Aspen on on the floor gets me in trouble too. As a substrate I don't mind it but I much prefer coco husk or paper towel.

Well I found it similar to aspen unless you keep it moist /damp .. When it's a bit drier it somehow gets everywhere ... when you get the water dishes out or when handling the snake .,
Can't beat orchid / reptile bark IMHO
I have it for 19 of my 20 snakes . The black MBK is on beech chippings ( colour contrast is what you're looking for of course ) .
