Which Snake Species is your Favorite?
I'm just interested in hearing which snakes everyone likes the best and why. (Sorry if this thread already exists), I didn't check.

    Gaboon Viper.....

I never own one though. A whole new level of responsibility I do not need.

I love vipers too, but I prefer to stick with non-venomous species. :P My personal favorite for snakes is a Burmese python or Indian or King cobra.

I'm kind of loving the Brazilian Rainbow Boa... maybe someday I'll get one of my own when I have more room and the funds/time to devote....I love the coloring and shimmers!

But for now I'll stick to my one BP... love her too of course!

I always wanted a Brazilian Boa. I love their head shape, lol

I really can't decide between Boas or Carpet Pythons.

While there are at least another dozen species that I'd like to get, my favorite may change with new acquisitions.

Brazilian Rainbow boa and monocled cobra but I would never embark owning the latter, might never even get up close with one.

I'm gonna be that boring person who says ball pythons. They are friendly, they don't get too big, have adorable faces, and come in sooo many cool color morphs.

I've had a lot of other snake species and they are still my favorites.

I do really like amazon tree boas, but sometimes they can be mean, which sucks.

I should have added the cape cobra to my list of fave cobras. They have such gorgeous patterns...

I'm that boring person too! I absolutely love their faces and they are easy to handle. Plus I love their thicker bodies. For some reason the skinnier, fast moving snakes kind of freak me out.

I really like how beautiful green tree pythons are but I've heard that they can be aggressive.

Retics, carpets and burms. Although if I were to get more I'd go with more carpets because they take up less room. There are others that I'm absolutely in love with but have no experience with like hots and olives etc.

Sonoran gopher. Maybe just because she is the latest acquisition.
    So much personality!

    Still enchanted by boas.
Really, really want a Tarahumara someday.

    Indigos and cribos too.

I love catching gopher snakes. There are a lot in my area and I drive out early in the morning to go on runs and find them. They are easy to find and don't usually bite once you've grabbed them. Of course, from a distance they look vaguely like rattlers, so you have to be careful.

Bull snake, Pituophis catenifer sayi. The big game of local snakes when I was a kid. First species to lay eggs for me, and first species to captive breed for me. Frowny face makes them look like they are evil tempered, but they are pu$$ycats when treated right.

That's a tough one. I'm partial to pythons and boas. I guess it would have to be Amazon Tree Boas.
They are small, thin, have big wedge heads that look venomous* and come in such a beautiful array of colors.
*closest I'll ever get to keeping venomous
They are bitey and inquisitive and I just love them, little devil shoestrings that they are.

BRBs are a great choice and were one of my favorites when I started out and saw one in a book. Here's a photo of the one I used to have, he was a great snake:

When I was a little kid I was obsessed with black mambas, so they have a special place in my heart <3 in terms of looks though, white-lipped pythons are so beautiful to me. I would actually love to own one one day but I have no idea how to access them here, or even if they're legal. We have super weird exotic pet laws here.

Gorgeous patterning, especially on his head! Only things I don't love are his eyes. I just prefer dark ones on snakes, no offense. Overall though, he is absolutely beautiful. Retics are so good-looking.

Ohh this is a simple one, LOVE gaboon vipers. Had a friend who owned one, I got the chills just when entering the same room. I could never have one, too much respect (fear), still the most beautiful, amazing, powerful snake I've been close to.

For straight-up keeping I prefer the BCI's over my retics as they're a lot less work. The retics are the most fun to handle though.

I'm giving two answers. snakes I keep: carpet pythons. love them all, but if I could keep only one, I would keep my 75% diamond x jungle (see my avatar). snakes I don't keep: eastern diamondback rattler. I am 100% convinced that this species is mother nature's finest piece of work.

As pets, ball pythons hands down. Too adorable to register sometimes. Perfection for me. I mean, look at the puppy mouth!

For admiration, I always had a fascination with king cobras, very majestic. Chrysopelea/flying snakes are really cool too. They're a mix of derp and elegance at the same time, I luv em!

I have a ton of HUGE wild diamondbacks around my house. I've seen some around six feet in length. Crazy.

Yellow phase eyelash vipers are pretty up there for me.

If you were to ask me about something I could actually keep though I'd have to go with BRBs, GTPs or the good old fashion ball python haha

Edit: After reading through some posts I realized I forgot to put Rhino/Gaboon vipers. Every time someone mentions those I think of Gabby and Mr. Sniffles from the old viper keeper videos haha

    Ball Pythons of course.

And then it becomes hard to choose. Every time I try I tell myself, but, but...

GTP's are so beautiful, it hurts !!!

I also have a soft spot for Blood and Short tail pythons. Such amazing fatties. I love their googly eyes. If you get a young CB baby, they are actually not bad to tame down, and many are just about tame (aside from some defensiveness). But boy, are they some powerful and FAST snakes. When they do strike, you don't see it coming. They launch their entire body at you. Even if you are behind them, they are on you in the blink of an eye, and they hit hard.

That said, they don't have long teeth like some bigger snakes, but they do deliver punch.

When tame, though, gosh, they make the best pet snake. They are much more confident then Ball Pythons. You can move their heads, touch them, they don't recoil. And such vocal little buggers. They like to huff and puff. Lots of it is bluff.

I wouldn't want to handle an adult un-tame one that has a bad attitude, though, they are powerful, fast and fury on scales!! lol

There's too many I love and/or want LOL

Just out of the ones I can realistically have, I love GTP's (I'm getting one more soon!), and I want a boiga cyanea, russian rat snake, and a black rat snake. But for my lifestyle, I think I will have to end up choosing just one of those three. Most likely will end up being a russian rat.

For the ones I can't own: blue insularis, gaboon vipers, desert horned vipers, and monocled cobras. I love watching hot keeper's videos of these guys.

Monocled cobras take my breath away. I just wish they always had their hoods out to show off those pretty patterns ;).

Eyelash vipers are amazing, as well as gaboon vipers. As far as something I hope to keep eventually, I love GTPs and realistically would like to add one in a few years. Another dream snake for me would be a yellow anaconda, but being honest with myself, that'll probably never happen. There's just something awesome about a Mexican Black King to me as well.

Retics, particularly the original tigers. Best snake I ever owned. Unfortunately not a very realistic pet. Keeping a 20' plus python is not an easy task. Mine was perfect at 14', everything about him, his clear beautiful pattern and color, his size, his gentile calm nature and his eat everything given with absolutely no aggression. Handling him he had no fear, never recoiled, I could even touch his face and pet his head. Never striked even at feeding time. From a hatchling to when I had to sell him he ate whatever was offered with no strike, no coil, just went up to it and started swallowing. I had 3 other retics as well but none were like him. I really just lucked out with his personality. If I ever was to keep a snake that got to his potential size I can't see a better snake. If he maxed out at the 14-15' size I'd still have him, they just get too big. I wish the dwarf versions had the same appeal but I just have not seen one that can match the look of the original tigers. I'm still sad I had to give him up, definitely the most attached I've ever been to a reptile. Now I only keep ball pythons and they are my favorite to keep. Easy to take care of and so many beautiful morphs, in fact way too many to choose a favorite.

Non-pet-wise, although not very exotic, I have always loved copperheads
