The time has come ...
To do my first post 😊
I have had a viv setup for a while waiting for the right one to come along ... Rescued my Clyde after he was removed from a bad home and unkind owner , have had him now approx 6 months and sadly have had a few issues ranging from bad sheds to fussy eating , made a few changes to viv setup and fingers crossed we start making progress with him now , he's so gorjous i jist want to look after him the way he deserved from the start , was told he was a he lol and he was approx 1 year at the time we collected him he weighed 275 grams he now weighs 505 but still looks a little ... Slim Jim. Fussy eating has not helped this matter, not sure what exact type he is we were told just a common ball python. Can't work out how to add a picture to the post so you can all see his lovely little face , I'm not computer whizz 😞
-
Glad things are going better. Good thing he has you:gj:

Glad things seem to be improving for Clyde, he's lucky you found him!
As far as posting pics, I was having a hard time figuring it out too til I downloaded the TapaTalk app on my phone. It's super easy from there. I'm not too computer smart, but the app makes it easy in my opinion.
Good luck with Clyde's new setup working out for you both

Sounds like he is coming along! Nice work!

Re: The time has come ...
Thanks all glad he's getting there just been and got some new vine plants for him, and some dinners, he was chilling behind his log on the cool side so got a cheeky pic whilst I could.. Think he's looking like a shed is finally coming? Slight pink belly and eyes and colour are dull today let's hope this one goes by better than the last... https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...e87d674acc.jpg

He's in blue! :) his eyes are blue that will clear up soon and then in a couple days he will shed so just keep the humidity up and he will hopefully be fine under your care :)

Yup, Clyde appears to be going into shed. Just boost your humidity and he should be fine. He's in good hands with you, so I wouldn't worry. :gj:

Re: The time has come ...
I've had trouble with the humidity in here simply because it's quite a big viv, I have a deep water bowl ( filled every day) under the ceramic heat bulb and a plastic tub with holes in the lid with about inch water too also have been misting twice a day to try keep it up for him hygrometer says average is 55 peaks at 80 and drops to 45 ( presumably overnight) fingers crossed this is ok for him :)

Re: The time has come ...
If you really need help with humidity and covering the screen/extra water bowl/misting isn't helping I put a cheap 10$ humidifier in my room with my snakes and it works pretty good pain to have to refill every day or twice a day but it's working. Already had one bp with a perfect shed and my other just got out of blue so hopefully Tomm she'll have a perfect shed too. Although when I got her she had old stuck shed in a few places so we'll see.

Re: The time has come ...
Yeah I thought about something like that, since upping the size of my water bowl and adding the extra tub of water it seems to be steady 60% during the days just drops a little at night, will keep humidity up and see how this one goes if not I think il order myself a little humidifier gadget lol 😁

I have some difficulty with humidity during the winter months too. When one of mine goes into shed I always add a few extra water bowls, tubs of damp sphagnum moss or paper towels, etc... It clutters the enclosure for a few days and isn't very visually appealing, but it gets the humidity up enough that I haven't had any shed issues at all.

Re: The time has come ...
If it got to a humidifier resort don't get the super cheaper tiny ones that fit in your hand pretty much that a cup of water I went through 3 and not long ago and each stopped pushing water through after a couple days. And whether that's bc of the filter or whatever reason that's a pain to change the filter every couple days or mess with it. I just found the cheapest big one I could find at Walmart/meijers and it was only 10$. Which technically would be cheaper than using substrate in the long run? Bc even if your sitting 60% still might need to bump it up a bit during shed

Re: The time has come ...
Yeah I have some moss aswell actuslly I will soak some tonight to put in aswell, we don't have a Walmart over here but I wish we did sometimes sounds like a serious shop lol sure I can pick one up of Amazon? Will keep you posted over nect few days on how he gets along :)

Re: The time has come ...
Way to go for providing a great and loving home for Clyde :) Sounds like you are a wonderful owner for his forever home.
You can buy moss to increase the humidity and just keep wetting it once it dries out, especially nice to have when they are in shed. I'm not sure which substrate you're using but when we had a screen lid tank I switched to expanding coco-husk and it retained moisture fairly well but I didn't love when it dried out it became a bit dusty. Now I use repti-bark and it seems to keep a nice consistent humidity, looks and smells good, easy to clean out. We recently added a huge water dish for the winter just to keep humidity up. Luckily the winter is almost over and it will be perfect conditions once again since I live in a humid part of the earth.
Hope the shed comes off clean!! Gosh they are so beautiful coming off a fresh shed <3

As above plus as soon as his eyes clear up and he gets a bit of colour back that's the 'sign' to really ensure the humidity is up to parr ... I'd spray a couple of times each day as soon as his eyes clear , then he's virtually guaranteed a good clean shed anywhere between a two to seven days after that 'sign' .

Re: The time has come ...
OK I will bear all in mind I am currently using aspen bark in there and spot clean once a week and full empty, clean and replace once a month, OK will keep misting as always and then extra when he clears his eyes fingers crossed 🤞

Re: The time has come ...
I got a one of the bigger humidifiers from home depot for like 20 and it holds at least a gallon so i only have to fill it once a week or so. its done wonders for my humidity when i coupled it with covering most of the top screen with foil. I'm a newbie but thats whats worked for me so far.

Re: The time has come ...
Guys, gonna be a compete know nothing here, his eyes have gone a little more cloudy today and his body looks like someone's dusted him with talc he's really bland and off colour, which I hear is normal, but what I am bit worried about he has been in his hide ( warm side) for at least 2 days now, if he has been out at night I would have missed it cause he's in his own room ( my baby needs his own room) should I expect this with the in ' blue' process? His first shed with me was awful, due to the conditions I received him in I think and he was a little more active the first time round so I'm just a bit worried he's not happy, any help would be greatly received :)

Relax :)
All going exactly to plan !
He will no doubt keep out of sight for a little while ...... next thing is you'll wake up and his colour will be back to normal and eyes nice and clear .... but he won't actually shed for a few days after this !!
As soon as he's eyes clear and he colours back up you should start or increase the humidity by spraying the viv a few times each day . This will normally ensure a lovely clean shed . Of course if you're completely on top of the humidity and it at the right level for shedding that's fine ...

Re: The time has come ...
Thank you 👍 have got extra water bowl in there at the minute and spraying a couple times a day minimum, gonna look at changing to orchid bark on next clean as I'm using aspen but I just find it so damn dry, hopefully that will help with humidity too, praying to the serpent gods this shed goes nicely lol

When my girl is in shed she only leaves her hide to eat. Other than that she is in there 24/7 for pretty much the entire shed process. Nothing to worry about.

No problem. You will find that as long as you are willing to listen to the advice it will be given freely. We were all beginners at some point. Most of us remember the fear of the unknown.

Re: The time has come ...
Always willing to listen, at the end of the day if I don't know it I can learn it and I won't learn by not listening and pretending I know it all myself. Not ashamed to say I'm a newbie to it all and taking each day as it comes, the most shocking thing is how quickly I have fallen madly in love with it all lol if I had the money and the room I would hoard snakes I'm sure 😂

That's the danger :)
It's truly addictive ... My wife eventually 'allowed' me to have ONE baby Corn snake ( they're GATEWAY snakes ! ) then we skip forward to today where I've got 20 snakes in individual display vivs .... plus one incoming soon ... hopefully ;)
-
Re: The time has come ...
Oh my God!!!! Post pics I'd love to see them lol we rescued ours and our little girl loves him she waves at his vivarium it's hilarious, I definitely want at least one more.. Cough cough ten more... Haha sometimes at night when he comes out to explore I watch him for hours it's pure addiction lol

My girlfriend "allowed" one snake as well, and we narrowed it down to a corn or a King. Ended up with the King, such a great choice, the GF LOVES him!!!!!...
In early January she "allowed" a BP (she was a bit squeamish about the bigger heads, thicker bodies), now she LIKES him...
Then, for my bday (Jan 22) she said my present would come the following week (Reptile show the 29th) and told me my budget!! Hahaha, we ended up deciding together on two corns!!
Next up, another BP!!!!....then a Mexican Black King, and then....and then...and then...

Yup!!! That sounds about right!! Snakes are like tattoos, I don't know many people with just one, hahahaha!!
How's Clyde's shed? Still hiding til he's ready?
-
Re: The time has come ...
Ha well I'm doomed then cause I've already started covering myself in ink so I'm just destined to have a home full of hissing sids 😂 yeah he must have moved overnight to his cool side he's hiding behind his plants now, his eyes were a bit more cloudy yesterday but haven't been able to see today and don't want to disturb him to much, still misting my life away... Definatly changing substrate next clean out, giving the orchid bark a bash see how that goes instead
Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk

yeah, I've got plenty of ink as well...and more to come. If my number of snakes ever exceeds my number of tattoos I'll need a bigger house!
...Clyde should be getting close!! One of my new corns is in shed, turned clear yesterday, so I'm hoping she sheds tomorrow! I miss the little cuties when they are in shed. Not that you need another reason to want another snake, but it's nice to have the option to hang out with the others when one is in shed or after eating...
I've thought about trying orchid bark too...
-
Re: The time has come ...
Haha oh don't 🙈 I think I just might turn his room into one enormous snake room and have em all lined up in a row 😂 yeah I bet can take it in turns who is coming out to play and who's chilling in the viv 😁 slowly convincing husband that he needs a pal in a viv next to him, one is a lonley number after all.. 🙄🙄🐍

Re: The time has come ...
Update on all sorts 🙈 clyde seems to have cleared his eyes a little bit compared to the other day but last shed I remember them being so cloudy they were like milk? This time not yet? Also with the humidity talk there's something weird occurring and I need a second opinion, ( prepare for essay) I have had two water dishes in the tank for about a week now on the assumption he was in shed, my digital hygrometer was about high 30 to low 40 hence why I've been spraying my life away, now when I mist it peaks up to almost 90 for a minute or two then slowly drops back down again, being a woman *cough cough* sometimes my house is full of clutter 🙄 I cleared the top of the viv today of said clutter and mid ironing spree left a dry, cold towel on the top folded up.. Now my hygrometer spiked to low 50s and has now stayed there since... Is it really possible that the humidity has increased because of that? For info towel is on the same side as my ceramic bulb and one large water dish, hygrometer is in the middle of the viv on the back wall... Spooky no?
