    first feeding attemp.
well today i tried to feed reese today a live rat pup, but he did not take. i was told by the breeder he feeds f/t weaned mice and live rat pups. i tried the live rat, he seemed pretty interested at the end but did not take. ill try again after a couple days. [emoji26]

Was he in his hide or just roaming . My five will only strike from the security of their hides and I'm feeding defrosted mice / rats .

i took both hides out of his tub and with my tongs i placed the live rat pup inside. at first he did not take any interest, about 2 mins later he started to be interested. i left the pup inside for about 10 mins, he went up to it and smelled it but never took. did i do something wrong? its his first feed.

leave the hides in and stick the head of the feeder in the entrance of the hide. it should entice them to strike or at least stick their head out.

you should heat the head up to 105° and the rest of the body about...95-°100°?

shoot, my bad; didn't read carefully enough. don't worry about heating them up then, but i could be wrong so listen to others who feed live.
but imo grab the rat by the shoulder blades and stick it's head into the hide; they should see it and hopefully react.
like i said i don't feed live so listen to others advise. 😊

lol ok. he seemed interested in the rat but he just moved away. when i took the rat out of his tub, and put his hides back in he went right back in his hide like 10 seconds later.

imo i'd leave the hides in place; it's their security. at least he seemed to show a feeding response, that's good. don't get discouraged from one rejected feeding! 😀

wait until the next scheduled feeding. offering too soon after refusing can stress them out.

try late at night, keep the room dark and try to hide yourself and others from the snake.

Leave the pup in the enclosure and clear the room of humans next time. Also, don't remove the hides. As long as the rat is not yet weaned, it can't hurt the snake. If it's well furred and/or has opened eyes, then it is not to left in the enclosure unsupervised. Otherwise, you can leave it overnight if necessary. Sometimes the switch from mice to rats requires patience. If the snake refuses rats a couple of times, offer mice again. The most important thing is that the snake feeds.

I see from a previous thread that you've only had the snake 3 days. This is likely a factor. Nothing unusual about a BP refusing food for a couple of weeks in a new environment. I'd wait at least another 5 days before trying again. I'd also try rat pup again since Derrick says it has fed on them for him.

yes i have had him since wed. only reason i tried to feed was because i had the days wrong. as in since he was shipped. he was shipped monday the 13th and i did not receive him until wed. so i miss understood the wait a week method, i was looking at the day wlhe left garrick. now thinking about it it seem logical that he is still getting used to its new home

a pup can't feed/drink on it's own. It can only nurse from mom. Sorry, you'll need to put the little guy out of his misery. I'd snap is neck. This is is the unpleasant side of reptile keeping.

after the he deed is done, put him in the freezer if that's allowable in your home. You can then try ft next time.
