    New Baby
So my son got to hold a corn snake at school and fell in love with snakes.... A google search led me here and I have been lurking for a few weeks reading through all the BP sections. Took him to repticon last weekend to see how he felt about a little larger snakes and he fell for a baby ghost. Unfortunately she was bought later that day. A visit to the breeder led us to him to a little guy that came from a boob egg. My son is very short for his age so they were kinda perfect for eachother. Now i get to start getting his new home together so he can come home for my sons birthday next month.

Thank you everyone. I wish I could have gotten pictures while he was exploring, by the time we decided he was definitely the one he was in ball mode. Im sure there will be many more when he gets to come home.

Congratulations. I'm glad you're here. This is a very supportive place to learn about snakes and just share the ups and downs of having them.

Thank you again. He isn't 100% sure thats what his gift is but he heard mommy say it was ok so he is hoping. He said when he held it he wanted to name it "Cutest Little Snake Ever", then he changed to name it after himself... Joshua Snake, I told him he cant name all his animals after himself so he decided "Tooty Fruity". He is supposed to be a lemon blast so I guess it is somewhat fitting. Do snakes "toot", maybe if he is gassy it will be a really fitting name.

I'm actually so curious about snakes interacting with kids! One of my best friends has a baby girl that's a big part of my life (I'm called aunty but I'm not, actually...) and would love to introduce them at some point when they're both a bit older and I can communicate how to behave and such. Cool parenting! I always wanted a snake as a kid but my mom would absolutely have never. :colbert:

OK, so I need to start gathering his setup. He will be here in about 3 weeks and I want to have time to get everything ordered, delivered, set up, and dialed in. I had bought a 20L during the $1/gallon Petco sale but now they have the Zilla Critter Cages on sale. I am not completely sold on the mesh top and plastic bracing with a heat lamp with the Zilla. I would greatly appreciate any insight into which is better and why. Those are the only two options I am interested in right now. I would love a T8 but I am not sure how it would work in his room right now and the wife wants to get him new furniture so I want to stay small. Tubs are out of the question, he is going to be 7 and it has to show. I cant help if the BP is in its hide, but I dont want him to lose all interest in the little guy because he cant even try to see him.

i would definitely go with the glass enclosure over the critter cage, no question. start reading on how to set up the glass enclosure here: How to Set Up a Glass Enclosure. it lists supplies needed and step-by-step pictures on how everything goes together. read through it and ask any questions you still have. :)

    Are you sure?
I had to laugh at this post. When I was a kid got my first snake. Ended up with about 40. Had to sell them all when I went to college and have always wanted to get back into it. My daughter asked for a snake two years ago and we got her a pinstripe. Well, now there are 9 in the house. Snakes are like chips, you always want another.

I have read all 19 pages 3 times now. They are both glass enclosures, both 20L's one just has a locking lid built onto it. http://www.zillarules.com/all-produc...s/critter-cage

I was a little older than he is now when I got my first snake. I was lucky, my mom liked them, she went with us to pick out this new guy.

gotcha, then imo i'd definitely go for locks vs. no locks.

So I picked the little guy up this morning and put him in his new home. Went to grab my phone to take a pic of him and he already had set up camp in his warm hide. Thought maybe he would explore a little first but I was wrong. Did with him at 95 grams before putting him in there. I am going to try to snag some pics of him when I get home from work.

She looks real nice , a proper stunner ... she'd look simply amazing on dark coloured substrate like orchid/ reptile bark though and it's easier to regulate the humidity when it's used ....

My sons birthday party is next weekend so til then he is hiding in my closet. Once he is moved i will see how his humidity does then. Currently the outside humidity is 59% so that makes it a little easier

Kids with snakes. The little boy in this pic is only 6. I wouldn't let a child handle my baby without supervision. My 12 year old handles him very well. She likes to do her homework with him hanging out around her neck/shoulder area. I'll try to get pic today if it.
