Choose three new snakes...
Too many choices!
Next weekend we are planning to add a new noodle or two to our collection. (6 sleepless nights until Columbia Repticon! I can't wait!)
I've searched and studied and all I am able to narrow my choices down to is - one of everything. please. :O
If you had just a few hundred bucks to spend per snake and could get your hands on any kind of ball python nearly...what would your top three picks be?
-
any of the spider morphs
anything with pinstripe in the mix
or I'd combine all the money I had into one clown purchase.
-
-
clown, banana/CG pinstripe, pied (can't go wrong with pied)!

In my personal opinion, I would not get anything with spider in it due to the neurological defect.
Aesthetically I would say:
1. Piebald - Far and away my favorite
2. Candino/Toffino - One of the few morphs that really gets better as they age into adulthood
3. Hard to go wrong with a good Enchi
-
Pied
Banana/Coral Glow
Clown
-
Coral Glow, Purple Passion, Clown
-
Disco fire male, vanilla scream female, enchi fire pied
I obviously like what fire does to things :B
-
Ultramel, Pewter, Pastel Yellowbelly
-
High White Pied, Reduced pattern Clown with unbroken stripe and Stormtrooper.

Oh my goodness! Great choices. <3 I want them all. It's going to be fun seeing all those snakes this weekend. I can't wait.

Is there an update on that snake? has it browned out at all or is it still as vivid as it was?

If you want a storm trooper you may as well wish for a scaleless and throw down about $50K per snake LOL.
Do you want them to breed for a profit or for a general collection? Clowns are a good investment for breeding but personally I think they are over rated, I don't find them very attractive, especially for the price. I think it's just a fad, I think the pieds may hold up well over time since they are much more attractive and variable.
For a personal collection (not breeding to make money) I'd go with a black eyed leucistic. All kinds of ways to make one. I have a spider pied 'white wedding'. She is by far my favorite snake. When I bought her I think I paid around $1,250, but they are cheaper now. You could always go with something like a super Russo, all white and a bit cheaper.
I also like the bright yellow snakes with spider, something like a bumble bee or bumble belly = pastel + spider + yellowbelly. Anything bright yellow with that spider mixed in is simply amazing.
Pieds are cool but if you mix in another gene they will be out of your price range, so you'll have to stick with a straight pied. If you had about $10,000 for any one snake I'd go with the 'panda pied' = super black pastel + pied.
Here's my top picks:
Spider Pied 'white wedding':

Enchi Pastel Fire 'Firefly' =

Super black pastel pied 'Panda Pied': (out of your price range though!). You may be able to pick up a black pastel pied and try to make one of these, or if you have less money and more time you could get a pied and a black pastel and start from there. You'd get hets and then breed them back to make more black pastel pieds, then breed those back and hope for the super.

They have both been going strong for over 2 decades and the Clown holds a higher price, return and following.
Back to the original question.... Depends whats in your collection and if you want to reed or just keep?
Why 3? Why not 1 or 2 really clean snakes? This makes a difference on how to spend your money.
Personally I like recessives so I would be looking for a nice Clown base with nothing else in her or some VPI Axanthic combo that catches my eye.

Personally I love piebald, and (while generally not too expensive) pastel morphs. I like ivory ball pythons but from what I've heard they're not the most reliable health-wise.

pied, clown, albino/candino/toffino

I love how many choices here are not at all budget friendly XD If I was on a budget and I was going to spend ~ $1000 I'd go;
~$300 --> Male Enchi Fire Yellowbelly (maybe sub Fire/Yellowbelly for Pastel if the price didn't work)
~$500 --> Female Clown
~$200 --> Female Hypo Mojave

We have never bred our snakes. Our teenage daughter may one day, but that's a few years away. I get overwhelmed with the variety of snakes! It's so exciting.
We have a Super Russo BEL, a Bumblebee, a Honeybee and our first ball, she is a normal.
I'm still not sure what we will end up with this weekend. Maybe a coral glow or an axanthic of some kind. We will know our snake when we see it! :)

Saturday was a good day. When we left the repticon my stinking face hurt from smiling so much. <3 We ended up with a gorgeous pied girl and a pastave ghost boy. We also bought a rack that still has three empty holes...so there is that to look forward to! lol
The pastave ghost - he is a gorgeous boy! He is a little cantankerous though. He bit my husband and he has struck at almost everyone else. He is going to need a lot of love to calm his nerves. lol Until Saturday I had never seen a ball python strike at anyone! I wanted the hypo to go with our honey bee. They are going to make an amazing pair if they ever breed!
