    Where to buy vermiculite?
Where can I get vermiculite at? Any special kind I need for an egg box?

Home depot, local feed stores, nurseries, it might be hard to find it right now but it will be readily available in the spring.

If your big box stores are out for the season I've ordered it from Amazon cheap before.

I just read the ingredients and make sure it's as organic as possible with no added pesticides or chemicals.

The Ace Hardware near me had some without the additives. Used it last season and it's great. Might want to check your local store.

I also use just the vermiculite while incubating and never had any problems and all my eggs have had a 100% hatch rate unless they were slugs but fingers crossed I never get any but I have had 0 slugs in my 5 clutches so far and I've even hatched an egg that was 2 that formed together in the mom I thought it was a funny egg at first but then seen the line that made it 2 separate eggs both albinos :)

Just make sure the vermiculite you choose does NOT have fertilizers added to it.

If it says "organic" that does NOT mean it doesn't have fertilizers. Repeat.... it does NOT mean it is just vermiculite. It only means that any additives qualify as organic, which can include a lot of toxic things.

Buy a bag of the "plain". The brands like Miracle Grow will usually have the added stuff that you don't want.

I've always picked it up from my local ACE but I bought a huge bag and still have most of it left. There's SO much in one of those big bags.
