Re: Just inquired about a new snake. Fingers crossed.
Wow. That's a full body stuck shed. Possibly multiple layers. Poor thing

Yeah. I gasped when I saw that. No hides, a heat rock and just on hoppers.

Love the part in the ad where they want to 'ensure he's well cared for'. I hope you can help him!

I didn't really want to stress him this much coming here but I was worried he'd be like that longer adjusting so went with a fairly traumatic first night, not even a hiss so he's a trooper.
He's 92 grams and according to the previous owner 2 years old. I'm amazed he's alive, she was only feeding him a hopper mouse every 2 to 3 weeks. I'm going to let him settle for a few days. Poor resilient little noodle.

Looks like he is in good hands now. Hope he bounces back soon for you.

[IMG]http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161207/b6ae4ff3b55277edd1e27f62c8c51aa5.jpg[/IMG Stealthy photo of him in his qt baby bin this morning. My friend filled me in more, little guy was an impulse buy by the girl, she never really had time to care for him but he was fun to pass around at parties. He had no current heat source but she had him in the warmest part of her apartment that had no heat on either because she was staying at the boyfriends.
Here is a photo of Calomel hanging in a beanbag chair, she's the same age as him and 1200g to his 92g. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...55ff1a871d.jpg I'm just in awe he's still here after that much neglect.

I'm so glad you decided to give him a soak , so many seem to be against soaking them but sometimes they have their uses . Now he looks so much better and he probably feels a lot better , he may have been dehydrated soak would have helped that as well as helping with the shedding process .

Re: Just inquired about a new snake. Fingers crossed.
Wow, 92 grams at 2 years? I am surprised he is alive too. He already looks so much better though, good for you! Even looks more plump just from the hydration he probably severely needed. I'm so glad you have him now
Makes my heart happy. <3

I took in a dehydrated royal many years ago and after ONE single soak he looked so much plumper and more colourful .

He will think he died and went to heaven !!
Such a good looking fellow, too, he will clean up nicely !! Great contrast and pattern.
Once he is settled in I would feed him regular meals. But not jump right away into heavy feeding. Normally, young Ball Pythons are garbage disposals and can eat a TON.
But with this starvation diet he was on, you just don't know what shape his organs and system are in.
I'm not sure if its even comparable, but in other animals, you can cause organ failure by feeding a "starved" animal to much or to fast. Called "re-feeding syndrome".
Again, no idea if that is a "thing" in snakes, but if he survived that long, there is no rush to bring him up super fast.
I sure can't wait to see him somewhat plumped up, though. Bet he will be gorgeous !!
:)

Holy crap he's supposed to be 2? My underweight pet store noodle didn't weigh much less than that when I brought him home and he was less than 6 months. If he's made it this far I have no doubt that he'll be able to perk up with proper care and patient feeding. You're awesome for taking him on!

Re: Just inquired about a new snake. Fingers crossed.
It's so crazy how much dehydration can affect them like that.

Good point! I have rat pinks from when I brought My pastel lesser home, I was going to start with those and do either a 5 or 7 day feed schedule depending on how he seems to handle it. Do you have any suggestions?

With a rat pink, I would feed every 5 days...if he is willing.
Once you see that everything is working well (urates, poop) and he continues to do well and gains well, I would bump up one food size and try every 7 days.
By then he should be getting ready for a shed. I would not feed during the shed cycle at all.
If everything is going well thus far I would then start feeding what one would "normally" feed a snake, based on his size. Pick the rat out by how wide around he and the rat is.
I would only take it slow and careful in the beginning, until you see how his body is handling it. :)
These are just my thoughts and opinions, though. Keep a careful watch on him, and adjust your schedule as needed. Keep posting about him along the way and you will get additional help and suggestions.
But for the first few days (minimum 4 or 5) I would just let him settle. No handling. Hopefully he will settle quick and drink well.
What a lucky snake he is !!!!
:)

Omnomonom!!! I'm so glad he's eating for you already! It really is amazing that he lived for 2 years with basically no growth.

Re: Just inquired about a new snake. Fingers crossed.
I just read this in it's entirety. I am so happy that he came to you. Amazing that he survived that long. Congratulations, you have saved a life!

Thanks everyone! I'm leaning towards the name Finnian currently, Finn for short. I'll keep updating as he progresses and hopefully he will be a big boy with a long life ahead of him with one hell of a rough start cruddy story far behind him.

Yeah, I totally agree with that, when there IS need to soak them then they have to get soaked.

I like Finnian...isn't there a rainbow associated with that name? You're his pot-o-gold after all!

Re: Just inquired about a new snake. Fingers crossed.
Up to 101g and feeling strong enough to give me a chomp. My first bp tag too, he snapped at my wrist picking him up for a quick weigh and checking for urates in his hide, it was over before I knew it was happening. I either spooked him or still had prey smell on me from feeding the rats the night before. But definitely improving!

He looks amazing now! Will he always be small or will he grow now with the correct amount of food?
-
Is she sure he is 2???
He's gorgeous!!! Shoukd take the before pics and his age, weight when you got him and her "husbandry" with him and have the SPCA charge her!

I'm not sure, he's putting on weight and just gave me urates yesterday for the first time. Time will tell, I'm hoping he gets to be a big healthy boy with proper care.

That is what she claimed his age is, im unsure how much the spca would do. Especially for a snake.
